"There are some people who go their entire lives without finding that. They never find themselves, find where their real talents lie…there are some people whose entire self-worth is based around whether other people validate them but just because those people aren't fulfilling their dreams it doesn't make them background characters in the stories of the people like you who are."
WOW! These words from Hananoi are some of the realest words I think I've read in this entire series thus far! They are so honest and I love these moments of seeing the REAL Hananoi and what he thinks.
Though I felt a little bad for the person who is getting the "brunt" of this, I guess he doesn't sugarcoat anything for anyone. LOL! It wouldn't be him otherwise. LOL!
So Yao really impressed me in this volume! I can see why Hotaru admires him because it speaks SO much about his character and how good of a guy he is to let her be. (Trying to keep that vague so I won't go into spoilers LOL) I feel bad that I thought the worst of him when the series first started. Ha…ha…ha…
Moving on, this was a great volume! I was so happy to meet a bunch of other characters and see more of Hotaru's family! It was even very fulfilling seeing our leads get to know the other's family better too!
I love these two so so so much and want nothing but happiness for them! <3
I'm a broken record at this point but I'm so impressed by Hananoi's character development! He's truly come out of his shell and is so much more non-problematic now haha.
RECAP: Hotaru meets Hananoi's dad. After meeting him for tea, she tells him that Hananoi only worked so hard as a kid so that his parents would take him with them when they left for work. His dad then offers to bring Hananoi with him on this next mission but Hananoi declines because he doesn't need that validation anymore. He does, however, go with his dad to England to visit his family so this is the first time Hotaru and Hananoi are apart as long distance! There's some more family things going on in Hotaru's household. Her little sister is bratty, Yao realizes he loves Hotaru and helps her out at a festival. Next, her sister runs away, Hananoi returns back and helps Hotaru find her sister. Hananoi drops some mad truth bombs with her sister and she ends up apologizing to Hotaru.
ugh ! seriously, how self-centred can you be to leave your child in order to satiate your own sense of righteousness. these kinds of parents piss me off if you want to spend your life abroad saving people either take your kid with you or dont have a kid in the first place ?? neglect is also a form of child abuse. it’s horrible i have no idea how he forgave (?) / even stands in the same room as them
Hotaru missing Saki/Hananoi during this volume was just the sweetest thing around! 🥹 While she waited a week for him to return back home, she connected back up with friends/loved ones around her and even got a confession from Yao (which she didn’t hear 🚂🙈) - he acknowledges his feelings for Hotaru, but knows he doesn’t want to get the way of what she has going with Saki. The ending was just adorable - I am looking forward to starting the next volume right away to see what happens next!
I am glad that Hananoi and his father could have settled things on good terms without causing a wrinkle in their relationship. Things could have ended totally differently between them if Hotaru hadn't been helping him change little by little. Hopefully, it won't be too hard for Yao to move on from his one-sided love and realize that he already has somebody who cares deeply for him.
Uh. They really pulled the “passing train” trope 🙄 this volume actually did annoy me a bit, though I still enjoyed it overall. I felt sorry for Hananoi, with his dense and neglectful parents.
Hah. I knew Shibamu and that teacher were suspicious. Im still wondering if Hotaru’s older sister will end up with the store manager, though he’s probably a bit old for her. I rolled my eyes quite a bit at the “long distance” relationship (oh noes, a whole week apart!) and her sister’s bratty behavior. I would like to note that for an athletic teen that trains ALL THE TIME, wearing a few pounds of clothes while falling in the pool isn’t going to pose a problem. It’s a pool, the edge is right there. And yet her eldest sister also freaked out that a healthy kid fell in the pool….I did like that Hananoi told her that other people aren’t background characters to her story, though to be honest, I didn’t get the feeling that’s how she felt. That part seemed a little odd, as if they weren’t talking about the same subject.

So far this remains to be a cute story. I'm still a bit sus of Hananoi though... He could very easily slip into being emotionally abusive/gaslighter.I'm sure it will all be fine. I don't know why I'm so suspicious of him. Only time will tell
Chapter 29: The First Time I met His Father Chapter 30: My First Long-Distance Relationship Chapter 31: My First Summer Festival Alone Chapter 32: My First Time Saying "Welcome Home" Bonus
While things start off interesting with Hanananoi's dad who seems all too happy to meet Hotaru and perfectly willing to even buy her a last minute plane ticket to go overseas with them if both Hanananoi and Hotaru hadn't objected to the idea, this volume doesn't go very well for Hotaru while Hanananoi is overseas visiting family. Fortunately, Yao shows up when she gets into trouble at the festival, but that doesn't seem to help with his growing awareness of his feelings for Hotaru or her situation with her little sister, who seems more clingy and upset than usual. Things come to a bit of a head when her sister runs away just when Hanananoi comes home early and wants to see Hotaru, resulting in a team search to find her and an unexpected dip in the school pool to keep her from drowning after she falls in. Doesn't seem to be much in the way of dull moments, but at least Hotaru and Hanananoi are back together again and excited he's home.

- hananoi's parents are terrible parents, but at least self-aware and seem like decent people otherwise... - shibamu pining after her childhood crush (now an adult man) is a yucky trope I don't love...but what made it worse was her LITERALLY ATTEMPTING TO KISS HIM AS HE SLEPT like what?? girlfriend!! please do not assault people in the name of love.... - POOR YAO I just want him to be happy (╥﹏╥) he's a good guy!! just too late for hotaru unfortunately.... - I absolutely loved the sister relationship development. def can understand both sides!! tomo and hananoi definitely understand each other a bit better now. hananoi did so well rescuing her and also helping her understand hotaru's perspective!

I’m happy that we get to see Hananoi and his father, he has changed now that he’s with Hotaru and he doesn’t hold any grudges with his parents, even if he could be angry at them because they neglected him, he’s decided to let it go and have a good attitude towards them. I’m also happy to see more of Shibamu’s life, she’s a bit mysterious. I love seeing Hotaru’s and Hananoi’s relationship, when Hananoi was in London, they video called every day and were always mindful of what each other were doing, also it was so sweet that when Hananoi came back, he went directly to see Hotaru and helped her find her sister. They’re the cutest ever!

Hananoi's father comes home from overseas and he travels with him to England during summer break. A little backstory on a friend and the teacher. (Good) Hotaru goes to a festival with her sister and they are separated when she runs into Yao. Some Yao POV and backstory. Yao confesses to Hotaru but the train passes and she doesn't hear it. Yao is in an agony of unrequited love. Sister troubles with the younger sister being jealous and feelin ignored. Hananoi arrives home and helps Hotaru find her runaway sister.
I really feel for Yao-kun but I just can't imagine Hotaru with anyone else but Hananoi 🥺🥺🥺 they're literally so CUUUTTTEE!!!! But seriously, I want Yao-kun to be happy too so maybe he can fall in love with someone else later? also, Tsukiha-chan and her teacher/childhood friend? AAHHHHHH I want them to be able to be together so badly!!! I can't wait till she graduates and then maybe he'll give her a chance but at the same time I respect that he's keeping his distance, even if it's sad for her. Overall, a lot of cute teaching moments in this one!

This volume is a lot of fun and I enjoyed getting to meet Hananoi's father in this volume. I also liked seeing a bit more of Hotaru's friend and her possible love interest in this volume. I look forward to seeing what happens next in this series.
Chapter 29: The First Time I Met His Father Chapter 30: My First Long-Distance Relationship Chapter 31: My First Summer Festival Alone Chapter 32: My First Time Saying "Welcome Home" Bonus Chapter
Hananoi's parents are trash and meeting his dad does not sway my opinion. Volunteering around the world and leaving your child behind makes you a garbage parent. The rest of the story I liked more, I just really hated that his dad gets to be talked about as a gOoD pErSoN when absent parenting really screwed with Hananoi.
It's my comfort series and with every chapter I love main couple and their friends and families more. In this volume we met Hananoi's father, our couple was separated for a while and there was an issue Hotaru's younger sister. So quite a lot has happened, but our main couple melt my heart as always ♥️
I feel this book had the most growth for both Hananoi and Hotaru. I love how they push each other to be open to experiences even if they are young and in love. I also loved getting to know more of Hotaru's family dynamic.
I can't wait to read more of this series, it is one of my favorite ones to binge.
We get some familiar tropes with the festival and love triange forming but the chapter with the younger sister was really nice and seeing one of Hotaru's friends get some development was good as well. This series has really improved from the first couple volumes to become a very enjoyable and engaging read and Hananoi is now a likeable character.
Ahhh I wanted to know more about Hananoi’s parents! But it was kinda rushed over. I assume it will come back up later? Also, I am SO glad that Hananoi was only gone for a week and it wasn’t an ACTUAL long distance relationship. I can’t stand that trope!!!!!
Honestly I really thought we were going to be free from the teacher/student plot but nope. I really hope this isn’t explored too deeply in future volumes as it really affect my enjoyment of a volume. Which sucks because everything else about this series is top tier.
