[novel chapters: 1-55/176]

I told myself I would definitely someday read the novel the manhwa was based on, and I’m so happy I decided to do so, because I love the book—hopefully the next books too—just as much as I love the manhwa. The only difference I’d point out is that I feel the emotions and depth of the story come through even more strongly in the manhwa, which is unusual, since it’s usually the other way around—but I love both anyway.

The first part goes up to the beginning of the hunting event, covering Shuri’s reincarnation, her getting used to being back, and the heartbreaking events from the past that led to her death. That part honestly made me bawl—I couldn’t believe Noora had to collect her in pieces at the site of the murder. I can’t wait to reach the part of the book where everyone finally appreciates and loves Shuri the way she deserves, because she went through far too much for someone her age.

On a brighter note though, I loved the Neuschwanstein family dynamic—they’re probably in my top three fictional families if I’m being honest. They just had that something which makes me adore all of them.

"Rachel had declared that the bedroom with the pink curtains was hers, yet she ended up sleeping with me."

I love Shuri’s connection with the twins, they may not be her biological kids, but in my heart they’re hers okay.

“Jeremy.”
“Hm?” Rachel hesitated. Then, she smiled grimly. “If anyone tries to mess with Mom, destroy them.”
“You don’t even need to tell me.”
“Rip off their legs, just like you always say.”

They care about her so much. I only wish their first life had turned out the same way as the second one—

We also get to see so many more of Jeremy’s thoughts and feelings in the novel—in my opinion at least. He loves Shuri, but he still accepts that his feelings can never become reality, as he knows she doesn’t see him that way and he respects and cares about her far too much to do something about them.

"Jeremy examined my face, then began to laugh mischievously. He grabbed my hand and pulled it toward him. He kissed it. “How about this?” he said slyly. “I’ll destroy every human being who bothers you, then frame this mongrel for all of it. What do you think, mongrel?”

“Whether you’re our mother, sister, or just our guardian, it doesn’t matter as long as we stay together as a family. Right?”

I absolutely adore Jeremy’s character, but I’m glad that this time the story of Jeremy, Noora, the prince, and Shuri turned out the way it did—unlike what happened with his father, Noora’s dad, and the emperor. Noora was the only one who truly saw and noticed Shuri in their first life, and now, in the second timeline, I just can’t imagine Shuri ending up with anyone other than Noora.

"Norra pitied her, the head of House Neuschwanstein. Those who were kind to her were only kind in honor of someone else, and the same went for those who were hostile."

"As his fascination for Shuri grew, so did his dislike toward her stepchildren. If someone like her had been in his family, he would never have treated her that way. He wouldn’t have let all those people point fingers at her."

"Forgive me, Lady Neuschwanstein. All those you loved while you were alive will not be able to avoid catastrophe. It was not out of consideration for the fools who had belatedly come to realize just how blessed they had been."

Anyway, I just can’t wait to read the next books, because I need to know what happens after that cliffhanger in the manhwa. I really hope it gets resolved the way I’m praying it will.

I have loved this story as a manhwa. I have loved this story as a novel. There are changes throughout that make it as gripping as the webtoon. I see certain story threads of future shaping up. Hope the momentum continues in the next two books.
