Puis ils s'embrassent !

That volume was so cute it gave me cavities bzkavakqbqha. I love how they're not rushing anything and making the love story progress naturally. I hope Mahiru gains more confidence in herself in the future as well! Moriya is a very interesting character. I hope she gets her own spin-off series one day.

Not quite as enjoyable as the first volume despite the protagonist and the love interest officially becoming a couple. The protagonist’s personality changes a lot due to starting a relationship and she slips into an irritating habit of self-doubt and self-consciousness, all traits that she didn’t have previously which I appreciated in vol 1.

Previously it seemed the protagonist didn’t care about bad things or people treating her badly because that was her crutch and her way of thinking meant that she expected bad things to happen but it didn’t get her down. However, in this vol the love interest suggests they can get through bad things together and make them good and it threw her whole thinking off the-kilter. It was interesting in terms of relationship progression, but it also meant the protagonist lost her unique perspective and became like every other self-doubting girlfriend in shojo manga.

Gah, this volume was even cuter than the first!

I admire how Mahiru is slowly but surely stepping out of her comfort zone and how she is genuinely hoping for GOOD things and not just being a "creep" as some people call her when they say something bad to her. Like girl, you deserve to be in this relationship so have some self-confidence!

I continue to really like Satomi! I don't think his character growth is as strong as Mahiru's has been, but he's a nice character, and just really like him. <3

Definitely wanting to keep reading! So thankful Azuki has almost the entire series on their website so I could keep reading! Thank you Azuki!!

KU manga

Ginga! Mahiru is slowly overcoming her issues, accepting Aoi as her boyfriend. Something is going on with the sister and her boyfriend. I'm guessing pregnancy. Ginga is the strange friend that seems ride or die, and supportive of their relationship. He's my fave character. Clueless teacher hugging a student with a crush. A little gutted about the kid crying. Curious where this one is going next. The drama is there but everything is still adorable. I liked that Aoi's calm finally cracked when Mahiru said yes.

This manga is better than I expected! I like that although the characters are over the top, the things they say are remarkably true and poignant. Maybe it’s not just the translator’s voice I’m hearing in the script, but the author’s as well, after all. For example, the fact that characters actually talk to each other and resolve issues, or attempt to move forward together. In a genre that can have a single easily avoidable misunderstanding span multiple volumes, characters communicating feels earth-shattering!

And the line where Mayoi tells Mahiru something like, “I haven’t done anything for you to be grateful for”—it’s absolutely true. Mayoi has been pretty awful to Mahiru in almost every interaction we’ve seen. But she’s aware of it, and is honest, as well as not taking advantage of Mahiru. And Ginga feels like a bully, always on the verge of threatening Mayoi... but he’s also really open and clear about why he wants to protect his friend. So. I’m looking forward to volume three! (These volumes are crazy short? But I don’t mind!)

3.5 The series is ramping up the romance bot to it is just alright and it’s not what I’m here for. It's neat to see how Mahiru's lack of self confidence even downplays the weight of her actions such as she blows off the impact she had on Aoi in the past as something just anyone would do and as such not important. It's also great to see her slowly unfold and feel awkward as she slowly wants to change her mindset. That can be a jarring and difficult thing and Taamo handles it with understanding and empathy that I think is what makes Mahiru's deal and growth enjoyable to read.
We also get Mahiru and Aoi’s first date here. It was a fun date to read with a neat addition in Aoi’s little brother which gives us a fun glimpse into his life more. In regards to their romance it’s alright. It’s not a terrible couple but I’m not feeling any intense sparks. I’m more here for Mahiru as a character and her growth than her relationship to Aoi. Similarly I enjoy Aoi more as a character and his role as big brother that’s taken on the parent role as well as his role in helping Mahiru grow than their relationship.
I am looking forward to the next volume as it seems Aoi will meet Mahiru’s sister and we get to learn about Aoi’s background. I’m also glad that by the end of this volume Mahiru seems to be accepting positive things instead of dreading the other shoe to drop. She still does but she’s accepting positive things that come her way now.
I didn't want to comment on the at in volume 1 since the library Hoopla version had poor resolution. This one I got through Kindle and has a resolution that properly shows the art much more. Its very similar to Atsumori-kun which was the work prior to this which makes sense. The backgrounds are strong. She highlights hair often with this smoky soft blush that I adore. At certain big emotional moments the art changes to have no black tones and just shades of light greys that pop well.
I also adore her range in eyes. The rich girl has that scribbly look like her super early work and it works well. boys have these flatter eyes that work well as Ginga and Aoi are much more upfront than Mahiru whose eyes are much more multi-toned with almost a marble-like globe deal to show highlights and spots where light refract and gives her a much more softer look and almost as if shes always a little bit not there but inward fittingly so. Screentones are used to render realism more (which Taamo also excels at as things are detailed and easy to read without looking overly detailed, out of place, or muddled) than the shojo highlights. Don't get wrong the shojo highlights are there as well but they're subtle and softer.

I'm loving this series so far! Definitely a cute light-hearted story of a girl full of anxiety trying to make it through life and fight her fears.

We continue RIGHT where we left off! Which I actually appreciate, since we get to see the reactions of what happened at the end of the first volume.

Here, we dabble a little more into the characters' lives, and learn a little more as the pace of the story takes us slowly through the budding relationships of these characters. I like that things aren't rushed, that the story does give us time to process things and grow in curiosity, where we learn a little more, but still not enough. (Gotta keep reading to find out, haha!)

The communication between characters is great, especially from our lead! So often in stories, I see feelings or thoughts being kept secret, but I love love how open and brave our girl Mahiru is for explaining herself and where's she at, despite the massive anxiety. And I also loved how, not only were her feelings and worries acknowledged and respected by Aoi, the male lead, but he expresses his own anxieties as well!

Once again, I love how it ends! So cute! The growth!

I definitely have lots of questions and things I'm curious about, so I'm looking forward to reading the next volume!

For Japanese Learners: I talk more about that in my review of the first book here. As this is a series, things will be consistent. tl;dr Easiest manga I've read yet!

Getting closer together

Awww Mahiro is really trying her best to get out of her comfort zone all for Aoi’s sake. Their first date was so cute! I actually liked that the little brother went along too. You can already tell that Aoi is super loved and adored by his younger siblings. And what about Mayo? What’s going on with her boyfriend? Hmmmn. Also, the art is so fluffy and cute, but the characters are surprisingly complex. I like that duality. Volume three here I come!!!!

2020 Read #199

I’m trying to clear through some of my digital manga backlog, and this series is my oldest. It’s been awhile since I read volume one. Even so, I just think I’m not much a fan of Taamo’s work. This is the third series I’ve tried from Taamo, and all the manga feel the same to me. I just don’t think at this point a Taamo manga will ever be a favorite of mine.

Mahiru's anxiety is normal but I love how Aoi is persistent on showing her that he likes her. The scenes are so cute like going to the cafe near their school!

These two are simultaneously so cute and dorky at the same time, between his fun obsession over dinosaurs and origami, and her superstitions and charm collection, we love to see it hahaha.
