Becca: My brother was killed overseas, never making it home from his last mission. They called him a traitor, an enemy of the state, the reason for so many deaths. Everyone believed it, even Beau “Bear" Ericson. Bear was his friend, his brother-in-arms, part of the brotherhood that goes deeper then blood. But he left him, left me, alone and reeling in a world that no longer made sense. So, when I see his hazel eyes blazing with hate from across the room, I know we can only be one thing…enemies.
Bear: I may have made it home from the war, but I’m far from okay. How can I be when the person I trusted with my life cost me everything? Trusting isn't something I do. Forgiving and forgetting isn’t going to happen either. But then she walked through the door, messing with my cold dead heart and playing with my mind. The only question, can I trust her or will we always be enemies?
Enemies (BlackByrd Series Book 2) by M. Miley is an enemies-to-lovers romantic suspense told in first person, dual POV. Although it's the second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone.
Rebecca Byrd is on a revenge mission. Life has been hell ever since her brother was branded a traitor to the country. Everyone turned their backs on them - even his brothers in arms - and she's willing to risk everything to clear his name.
Beau “Bear” Ericson remains scarred from that failed mission and his friend's betrayal. His body and mind have been branded with these scars that he bears daily. When Rebecca shows up, all he sees is another traitor.
But what if Bear is wrong? What if he's been wrong about everything all along? Can Rebecca be trusted?
I really enjoyed Becca and Bear's story. As characters, they were likeable, relatable, and realistically flawed. In a way, they were mirror images of each other, and as a couple, they were well-matched. The story was a gripping page-turner full of intrigue and suspense. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
Rebecca Byrd is a one woman army. On a mission to clear her brother’s name she’ll sacrifice everything - including herself - to succeed.
Beau “Bear” Ericson carries the physical reminders of a brother’s betrayal every day. But his scars run deeper than physical.
Chills- chills! The love and loyalty Becca has for her brother, for Bear, for people she loves. To see her face everything on her own - whether she knows it or not. M. Miley’s sophomore book in the BlackByrd series brings us a deeper look at the giant teddy Bear from Survival. The chemistry between Becca and Bear, their connection is undeniable and will leave you swooning at their ending just like I did.
This book had me on edge the entire time. I was up, I was down, I couldn't put the book down. The author had a way of putting you in the book, you feel the emotion. I can't wait to read book 3!
I loved this second book almost às much as the first. You can't help but fall in love with the characters and this writer's ability to keep you guessing makes it a book you just can't put down. I can't wait to get into the next one.
