Confession: I discovered the Library Witch Mysteries because of narrator, Hollis McCarthy. I adore her narration of Nancy Warren's mysteries, and since I had finished all of those mysteries I went looking for more books that she narrates. Enter... the Library Witch Mysteries. I'm on book 8 now, so needless to say that I'm hooked!
This mystery is set around a professor that is cursed, and Aurora "Rory" and her Reaper boyfriend, Xavier, try to find out what cursed the professor. However, before they can investigate too far, the Grim Reaper goes missing and they have more than one mystery on their hands!
I really enjoy these mysteries. I love a biblio mystery and paranormal mysteries so it's not a surprise that I really like this series. Rory is a biblio witch, who only recently discovered her talent and the entire magical world. She now lives in a magical library with family that she didn't know existed and is dating a Reaper! Add to that dead bodies at a drop of a hat, and you've got a great series.
I like that Curses & Cliffhangers really digs into the translating of her Dad's journal, and she is finally starting to read it! This has been building up over the last 7 books and I'm happy that we are starting to find out what it says!! The reader also gets to delve into the lives of Reapers... and as a fan of Discworld [by Terry Pratchett] I was really hoping that the Grim Reaper had gone on vacation!
I won't give too much away, other than this is a great turning point in this series. I'm so invested in what is happening in Rory's life and I just couldn't put this one down. I can't wait to pick up the next book, Monsters & Manuscripts.
A date with Xavier and the Grim Reaper calls him in, mid date, to show him the murdered wizard. But the pair don't really understand why he would do that other, of course, to upset their evening, as he's already dealt with the soul.
The mystery deepens when it appears that the wizard was killed by a deadly curse and the hospital staff are unable to explain quite what that curse was, so Aunt Angelina is digfer into the archives trying to figure it out.
Estelle's poetry evening goes awry when "Nero the Wonder" turns up with an entourage of crazy fans, recites the naffest poem and showers the library with self promoting confetti.. deep joy!
But more bodies drop, the Grim Reaper vanishes and Rory discovers that her father managed to secure a very old book wanted by the Founders.. can it all be connected? And if so how? She's going to have to ask Evangeline for help, a thing she desperately doesn't want to do but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Curses & Cliffhangers is Book 8 in the Library Witch Series by Elle Adams. This is one of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors.
Rory Hawthorn is doing pretty well . Things are even progressing with Xavier, much to the Grim Reaper's dislike. Speaking of Mr. Death, he seems to have disappeared.
Rory is still working on deciphering her dad's journal when a curse is unleashed on the town.
This story was multi layered with different subplots that were perfectly woven together.
The characters are complex and well I love my vampires. I love the story that encompasses not only witches but Vampires and Reapers.
I highly recommend this book. While it can be read as a stand alone, I think you will find much more enjoyment with starting from the first book. You cannot go wrong with this series or anything that Elle Adam writes.
Rory Hawthorn is loving life in the library. She's doing well with her magic lessons and is making progress on translating her father's journal. However, she has one problem. The Grim Reaper keeps interfering in her dating life with Xavier. Then the Grim Reaper goes missing after a wizard is killed with a curse. And, it seems that the curse isn't done when two more people die. Can Rory and Xavier get to the bottom of things?
I've really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception although I didn't get into as much as I did previous books. The book's well-written with with a wonderful cast of characters. I did read this in one sitting and the mystery kept me on my toes. I am eager for more from this series. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
Rory and Xavier are on a date when they stumble across the Grim Reaper after he has reaped the soul of a wizard who had died abruptly from a curse. Things get odd between the three of them but no more do than usual until the Grim Reaper disappears without a word and stops Xavier's ability to track his whereabouts and movements. Then two additional deaths happen and things get really interesting. I love this series, the characters are awesome and the storyline is always engrossing. I highly recommend this book and entire series. Hope the next in series comes out quickly!
A curse in plaguing the town, the Grim Reaper is missing and no one knows where he is (including his apprentice). and once again Rory must deal with the vampire queen. People believe the curse is in a book in the library but the family can't figure out what caused it. The local curse-breaker is no help because he can't stand Rory's family. Xavier is preoccupied with trying to find his boss and a visitor who is thinking about buying property in town is causing chaos. It seems that Rory must make a deal with the vampire queen in order to solve the mystery but she must also protect herself from the vampire's incredible mindreading powers in order to protect her father's journal.
A local wizard dies from an unknown curse. Then several more folks die, allegedly from the same curse. Imagine Rory’s shock when she finds out who the intended victim really is. The plot only thickens after Rory is able to read the first parts of her late father’s journal. It’s thrills, chills, and Evangeline for good measure. Where’s a darn stake when you need one? Don’t miss the latest whodunnit from Elle Adams.
3.5 stars. It took me a while to settle into this story. Maybe reading 8 books in a series back-to-back wasn’t the best way to approach this journey. But I’m still here and I’m still interested in this witchy cozy.
We finally started to learn some of the things written in the mysterious journal! There is also a deadly curse, a missing Reaper, and much more. It is well worth your time to read this one.
Rory and Xavier just can't seem to catch a break! Between her dad's journal, Reapers, and vampires, a fair bit of info has been revealed...and most of it is heartbreaking! The killer and motive are improbably ridiculous, but the writing is solid and the dynamics are intriguing. I'm already eager for the next book!
Rory finds herself at the scene of a another murder only this time the Grim Reaper disappears after claiming the soul of the wizard who died. Xavier and Rory search for him as the body count increases. How do you catch a killer who doesn't leave any clues behind.
The Grim Reaper is missing, which could have been an interesting story element... but the ultimate reason is SO DUMB and SO PETTY that I seriously considered just quitting this series, since I don't actually like any of the characters much and actively DISLIKE a couple of them. However, at this point, I guess I feel invested in finding out what happens. Sigh.
I really enjoyed the story...another great addition to the series A great series for ages 15 and up If you like cozy mysteries then this book is for toy
I am getting a bit bored with books like this, some how the parents or parent always die oh and let's not for get they always take for ever to learn about their magic because they always doing some crap thats not really important to the story.
It shows the reaper has a heart even though he denys it . it was good to see how Rory. Comes to terms with her friend being a vampire .I enjoyed alot.Looking forward to more.
These characters have changed and grown right before my eyes. I'm loving every moment. These books are definitely page turners. Great world, characters and story lines. Highly recommend
The more sequel I read the more I want to read the next book. All of the plots get tangled up together to keep you guessing about what will happen. Looking forward to reading the next book.
Excellent book, a wizard dies from a deadly curse, the grim reaper is upset that once again that rory and xavier are out on a date and calls them to the body after he already has taken the the soul but then disappears and more mysteries ensues. read the book to find out what happens
This was a very good story and kept my attention to the end. It was about murder and mystery, reapers and vampires, witches and magic, poison and curse.
This is a great series! I especially enjoyed this book. We learn more about the reapers and Rory’s dad. Such a great read! I hope there will be more books!
The characters relationships are now more defined and the plots are still twisty the world building is more solidified and I can't wait for the next book!
