SECRETS NEVER STAY SILENT

In the early seventies, six children disappeared from North Carolina. Psychopath, Elvin Hayes was convicted and executed for the presumed murders. He went to his grave with the secrets of what happened to the children dubbed The Silent Six.

Thirty years later, the six are no longer silent. A curse has been summoned. The children have come home to play a demonic game called The Mayhem. Detective Kim Strode must find out who conjured The Mayhem before it destroys everyone connected to the case.

There’s one major problem. Kim is connected. Her father sent Elvin Hayes to the electric chair.

'THE MAYHEM CHILDREN', a terrifying tale of witchcraft, demons, and revenge, is an ode to classic eighties horror.

first of all, thank you so much to Tom Jordan for a copy of this audio book. Tom narrates it and does such a great job. This is the first thing I've ever listened to or read by Paul Seiple. i think it's safe to say he is a horror fan! From the character's names to details about people and places. First thing, as soon as you hit play- SATANIC PANIC!!
description
and then the story just gets better. i don't want to spoil anything but you have satanist, black magic, curses, hauntings, and at the end!! African folklore is mentioned. if there is a book 2, i want it now!! Especially if it's about that said creature.

This was an interesting book. It did leave me with one big question at the end though. I wish the author would have clarified the one point better. I can imagine why something happened, but I would like answers. Maybe that is just part of who I am though. All-in-all, it was still worth the time.

GREAT READ

This book is GREAT!!!!! An awesome blend of the supernatural, mystery, crime and horror. The cast of characters were so full of personality and I can't wait for the next book in the series. It was entertaining and fascinating reading how skeptics became true believers. Well done!!!!!

Very good!

I first read Paul Seiple when he wrote books using characters of the great J A Konrath. A talented writer, for sure. A few times I felt as if I was in a King or Koontz book! Definitely will refer Paul Seiple

It’s a good read!

Iain Rob Wright recommended this author and book in his latest email. I’ve never been disappointed in his suggestions so I gave it a go. Was pleasantly surprised and will definitely keep reading these books to find out how Kim’s story will end! Great job Paul!! You have a new fan! Thank you!

Great content. Loved the visuals and the description of each character's experience. Very quick-paced story.

Hilarious but dark and overall just entertaining.

Despite the ridiculous amount of typo in my ebook copy, I'm stil convinced to give this 4 stars instead of a 3. That's how good it was.

Good book

I'm a long time reader of horror and always on the look out for new authors since I've long ago exhausted (and grown tired of) of many of the more recognized names. Set in North Carolina, the story evolves around detective partners Kim Strode and Terrence Simms. Many years earlier, Kim's father was responsible for the arrest, conviction, and execution of the killer of the "silent six". After an atrocious mass murder, they now need to determine if the killer is back for revenge.

I truly enjoyed this book and blazed through it in less than a day and am looking forward to the next installment.

The Mayhem Children (A Project Specter Mystery Book 1)
By: Paul Seiple
5 out of 5 stars

The story The Mayhem Children (A Project Specter Mystery Book 1) by Paul Seiple is one of those books that had me reading far into the night in order to finish. It also had me on the edge of my seat and making sure I read with the light on. It is entertaining, chilling, and hard to put down. I loved reading about the character of Detective Kim Strode. She is a young woman who finds herself having to figure out who has conjured The Mayhem before more lives are lost. The case takes her back to the case of Elvin Hayes who was convicted and executed as the presumed murderer of The Silent Six. Kim is connected as her father sent Hayes to the electric chair. Will Kim find out who conjured The Mayhem? Read this book to find out. This story has quite a few additional characters that are introduced and I enjoyed reading about many of them and their interactions with Kim. Kim is a character that is strong, independent, intelligent, and stubborn. I grew to care about what happened to her with each chapter the I read. I have always loved thrillers/horror books and this story is a good example of why. I would highly recommend reading it.

******** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW ********

I love a good horror book. I also love listening to a new (to me) author and narrator. I enjoyed the story. It was a bit creepy. I really liked the storyline and the paranormal level was strong in this story. It was a pretty fast-paced story. There was several characters but I never felt like it was too much to keep up with. I was a bit bummed out with the ending. I guess I had it built up in my head that it was going to be this demon vs human epic battle… it wasn’t. So I was a bit let down with the ending.

The narrator Tom Jordan did a good job with the story. He was able to excel with the demons voice but not really the children’s voices… however, I appreciate the narrator not approaching something he may not have felt like he could have pulled off. Jordan did a pretty great job with building up the tense feelings and making the listener see the unbelievable!

I mostly really liked this book. It is a little heavy-handed on Christianity; but when you're reading a book about the paranormal that can happen. I spent most of the book hoping against hope that what I suspected to be the answer to the mystery wouldn't be as obvious as it seemed. Imagine my great disappointment in finding that the ending I feared was the ending I got. Even worse, the whole conflict in the book was wrapped up in about 2 paragraphs. For crying out loud, what happened? Suddenly the deadline for the book came due and so the book had to be wrapped up unceremoniously and quickly in a very unsatisfying way? So frustrating. And sad, because the book, as a whole, is good - so you know the author has the ability to write well - making me wonder why the lousy ending?

Received audiobook through the Tom Jordan, this is an honest review. Tom Jordan brings to life one of most gut wrenching stories I've read and in such breathtaking fashion I was both disturbed and absolutely engaged at the same time. Finally putting to death of the most dangerous serial killers out there that brutally took the lives of six children and ruined their families; everything should be over. Only what comes as a fight for survival for all of those this very dark case brought together: a very dark force is using the souls of the dead children to unleash a nightmare that test everyone's sanity. And discover a serial killer still has his own secrets slowly unraveling into the light.

Highly recommended.

It is a very entertaining and tragic story with elements of satanism and demonic possession. The story had a really good flow to it and the character development was spot on. I am looking forward to reading more of his work. I will say however, that there were a lot of typos and grammatical errors that were a little cringy. But I was able to look past that because the story itself was so good. The ending felt a bit rushed though, but it does open the door for a sequel. I am very curious as to what happens next, if there is one.

Over-all, a nice fast paced demonic horror novel about the past coming back to haunt you. Literally.

I really wanted to like this book but it was just Ok. When people and houses connected to a previous serial killer begin to experience paranormal events, the investigation proves to be more than expected. With the help of a paranormal team, the police set out to discover who has summoned The Mayhem.
There were several errors that should have been caught by more careful editing. The climax made no sense to me. One of the investigators is hiding something paranormally connected in her past. I should care but I don’t. Done with series for me.

It was a great read I loved the characters and the plot and I also didnt see that twist coming. It kinda threw me for a loop, I was like what is really happening but I couldn't put it down. And I'm glad I read it. I wouldve liked to know more about the killer of the children but it was still good. I wanted the two main characters to get together but I dont think they did. And I was so worried about the father the whole time lol. No spoilers tho go check it out it's worth a read. I'll do a better more detailed review on my YouTube channel.

Sad that book 2 isn't out yet!

This was a fun and exciting read! I was very surprised and happy that the author understood the difference between Satanism and devil worship, too many books, movies and tv shows (I'm looking at you Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) get it completely wrong. The only downside to me was the ending it was very anticlimactic. I was like "that's it?? Um. Ok". Still, I think it's definitely worth checking out and I'll definitely be getting book 2 as soon as it's out!

A Different Approach

This book is markedly different from other horror stories in the tone it takes while dealing with the supernatural. Most stories start by working around the edges of the abnormal situations horror involves. This book drives right down the middle of all the supernatural action in the most blatant, "just the facts, please," sort of manner. It was like having Sergeant Friday from Dragnet writing up the police report version of Ghostbusters. The very dry presentation actually made it even more strange.

Read with the lights on!

This book had me from the first few pages. It was hard to put down.Im a huge fan of supernatural and mystery books and this didn't disappoint. It has witchcraft, demons, ghosts, serial killer and a who done it rolled into one. What was really sinister is when the demons took the form of the murdered children and terrorized! The story also had a pretty good twist I didn't see coming.

This was so good and creepy! I devoured it as quick as I could but I will admit I didn't want to read too much by myself or at night. This plays out like a horror movie from the 80s or 90s with plenty or creep, suspense and plenty of action. The characters were fun and interesting and all of the paranormal aspects were right up my alley. Ive already purchased the next book and can't wait to dive into it! This is the perfect book to read in the fall or around Halloween time.

This is actually one of the better books I have read in a while. I like how the author gave a nod to the classic horror movies. I picked it up right away (Strode and Brackett). I absolutely loved how he weaved it real haunted objects into his story as well. It had a nice twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting and I can usually figure things out. I read this a couple of days ago and it is all I can talk about.

Hats off to this Author. What an amazing book. It is so refreshing to read a Horror book that raises the hair on the back of your neck but has a plot. Also, the ending is not a continuation but it does leave it open that could spin the book off with the characters. A must read even if you not a Horror fan.

Intensely chilling. Unputdownable!

Hayes was executed by electric chair in the mid 70’s. Having murdered six children but never revealing how or telling where the bodies were. Now, many years later, in the same sleepy town, people are dying. Murdered by their own family or by horrible accidents. But to those who believe, these deaths aren’t accidental.

Simply fantastic

Loved this book. The great throwback feel of classic horror flick made this doubly enjoyable to read. With twists in all the right places and good characters, the creepy factor was just icing on the cake
