Having vanquished his political enemies. Rhyan Cason is anxious to get home to beloved Carianne. Then he receives word that an anthrax outbreak threatens his ranch. Even as he ponders how he can afford to take a wife, dark secrets from the distant past shakes his beliefs to the core and convince him he'll never be able to find forgiveness or make Carianne happy.
Carianne is stunned when Rhyan breaks their secret engagement. She leaves Sallano, the beautiful ranch house that she loves almost as much as its owner, and returns home to Westerfield. While waiting for her shattered heart to heal, she shifts her attention to building the library she's promised the town.
Even though Colt Holliman offers her a courtship, circumstances keep drawing her back to Sallano and Rhyan. Torn between her affection for Colt and love for Rhyan, Carianne realizes almost too late Rhyan's troubles lie deeper than saving the ranch. He fights an evil that threatens more than his love for her - one only God can defeat.

his was not the book for me. I really enjoyed the setting but I could not connect with either of the main characters. I felt like the story line was a bit too predictable and for me it was terribly slow. I am sure there are many other people who will enjoy this book a lot more than I did.
The book had some good points and some amusing scenes but for me this book is three stars.

Surrendered is the second book in the Intrigue Under Western Skies by author Elaine Manders. This is my first read in the series and by the author. I really enjoyed her writing and I look forward to more of her work. This is a story about two people who love each other very much and are looking forward to spending their lives together. Unfortunately, circumstances for which they had no control over come against them and their path to happily ever after.

I do wish I had read the first book, just to watch their love materialize and grow. But this story definitely showed the stubbornness of both Carianne and Rhyan. Rhyan, being new to the faith, trusts himself and what he knows to be true more than God. Carianne’s faith in God is relentless and I think almost unbelievable and/or uncomprehending to Rhyan. Nevertheless, they both have a rocky road ahead of them and what their futures hold; either together or apart. I completely understood Carianne’s confusion and hurt over the way Rhyan treated her. I am not even sure he understood completely himself. Carianne has a big decision to make especially when her very dear friend Colt steps in and asks to court her.

I enjoyed the little scientific tidbits the author sprinkled into the story which added to this immensely enjoyable old west story of a cowboy and the lady he loved and the town they lived in. One of my favorite parts of the story is when Carianne tells Rhyan that she was praying for an answer, why should she be surprised when her prayer was answered. How true.

I look forward to reading more by Elaine Manders. Her story kept me interested and turning the pages and I found out that she has written a Scottish historical that intrigues me greatly.

I have received a copy of this book for free. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions expressed are my own.

Surrendered by Elaine Manders is a sweet story with flawed but compelling characters and a classic Western setting. It’s best to have read the first book in the series – Pursued – before reading Surrendered as the events in the latter pick up where the former left off.

Rhyan is a ladies’ man with a less than innocent past, a reformed atheist who believes in God but doesn’t really think God cares about him. His faith journey is authentic, and a pivotal (mildly shocking) scene in this journey brought tears to my eyes. Loosely entwined with his path toward God is his love for Carianne, a woman who loves him deeply in return and is grieved over the condition of his soul. Her prayers for Rhyan throughout the novel are touching and sincere… and they act as a reminder to listen when God impresses upon your heart to pray for someone.

Bottom Line: Surrendered is more than a romance. It’s a picture of the wild West and of God’s love for us. While I didn’t really connect with this story or the characters as much as I was hoping to, I know it will appeal to other readers. The editing needs to be a little tighter, as there are several distracting errors in the finished copy, and its degree of sensuality doesn’t have the necessary emotional depth backing it up. Overall, though, this is a pleasant read which many readers will enjoy.

Loved this continuation of Rhyan and Carianne's story! Rhyan struggles with being worthy of God's love, along with needing to repent and change, and wondering if God's love and forgiveness are big enough to love and forgive him. After all, his mother left him, he and his father didn't have a good relationship, and he feels he isn't good enough for Carianne. When his world starts falling apart around him because of his enemies, he feels alone. When Carianne finally realizes why Rhyan feels as he does, and that this is more than his earthly enemies, she realizes she needs to pray for him more fervently, and the battle is also taking place on another level. When Rhyan finally realizes that God does love him and will forgive him for all he has done, things begin to work in his favor. Carianne also learns a lesson about how to reach others, too. Wonderful sequel to Pursued!! Looking forward to reading the next two books in the series!!!

Christian Historical Romance

For some reason, (life), there were years between reading book 1 and book 2, but, I still remembered a lot about these characters! Elaine weaves her stories so expertly, that they are embedded into my soul! This is another amazing tale of God chasing His chosen child, until the timing is right for his surrender! God doesn't give up on us, no matter how far we stray, no matter how much we fight to accept His love! God's love is limitless!

God's love mercy and grace covers a multitude of sins

We can never predict how and when God answers prayers. It is our duty to hold onto our faith as we pray without ceasing. These truths are fully illustrated throughout this book, just as is the fact that God works in mysterious ways and through miracles!

Awesome…

If the first book left you wanting more you will not be disappointed! Book 2 and the conclusion is wonderful. So much angst, ups and downs. Plus many ins and outs! But well worth the read! Elaine thank you for your gift of storytelling and strong faith. Oh so many twist and turns…but the Lord Jesus prevailed in these characters lives. Bravo! ❤️📖📖❤️

This book picks up where "Pursued" ended.
If you haven't read the first one you'll want to because the books are that good.
I cheered Carianne on as she stuck to her beliefs but she never stopped praying
for Rhysan to come to know the Lord. Will he? Can she marry another man who
does know the Lord? She brings joy and encouragement where she is and to whoever she meets. She's stronger than others think and just as stubborn. I really enjoyed
this story.

Surrendered by Elaine Mander is the second in the Intrigue Under Western Skies series. In this romance Western set in Nebraska during the late 1880s, readers continue the story of Carianne and Rhyan. They secretly have agreed to marry as Rhyan has seemingly changed his mind about God. And then something happens...heartbroken and somewhat bewildered, Carianne continues on her mission to build a cultural center in town, showing love and bringing joy and encouragement to others around her. Friends remind her that Rhyan has always been a two-timing heartbreaker who is never going to change. She finds that her faith might be less than a mustard seed but it holds firm. Rhyan continues to deal with serious financial issues with his ranch, wondering if he will have to sell and go back to California, all the while loving Carianne more than himself. Will he be able to find his way back to her and her God? Will he be able to find a real purpose in life or will he succumb to his depressive thoughts and malaise? Along with presenting good historical detail and touching adeptly on the subject of depression, the author has created characters who are dynamic, evocative, and believable with their strengths and flawed foibles. Readers get a look at small town life with colorful characters who take an interest in each other's lives, especially when it comes to romance. The story moves along quickly as there is a lot of action, adventure, a few twists to the plot and a satisfactory ending.

Elaine Manders delivered another spellbinding read with Surrendered, book two in her Intrigue Under Western Skies series. Rhyan Carson decision to focus on his ranch and fulfilling his secret proposal to Carianne Barlow is met with unexpected news shortly before arriving back at Sollano. His anguish and despondency was not what Carianne expected when he arrived home. Carianne was heartbroken but was able to face others after those who cared for her had some heart to heart talk. She was determined to fulfill the request of her grandmother in creating a library and a cultural center in a western town. The surprising circumstances with some roadblocks and twists and turns reeled me in where I could not stop reading. Manders weaved a story filled with multiple developed characters, plots and action with vibrant scenes, strategies, gains and losses, heartbreak and joy, unbelief to belief. The research is evident in this western story filled with political issues, land boundaries, contracts with the government to care for the Indians, and a disease that threatened cattle and lives. Manders interweaving romance, God’s Word, love and second chances that only God can give brought pure joy in reading Surrendered. I truly hope there’ll be a book three in this series to know where the lives of the hero, heroine and secondary characters are along with the changes within Westerfield and Sollano Ranch, Nebraska.

Rhyan Cason is ready to marry the love of his life when accusations begin to fly about his diseased cattle and a plot to destroy other ranchers. In an era when being in society’s good graces is everything, Carianne Barlow survives speculation and innuendo to salvage her reputation. I haven’t read a lot of books set in the Old West and enjoyed learning about the culture, “technology,” and geography. Women had limited choices during this time period, and I found it interesting to see how Carianne worked out her difficulties under these constraints. Rhyan was a complex character, and despite being a “man’s man-” cowboy, rancher, and entrepreneur, he was caring without being sissyish. The plotline about the anthrax outbreak among Rhyan’s cattle was fascinating and obviously well-researched. This is book two of the Intrigue Under the Western Skies series, but was easily read as a stand-alone novel.

Very good

I enjoyed this western romance quite a lot. I liked how Carianne wanted to open a library in this small town. She and Rhyan have many ups and downs during this story. I received an eBook copy from Celebratelit four a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Surrendered was the second book in the Intrigue Under Western Skies series. An anthrax outbreak on Rhyan’s ranch caused a myriad of problems for him and the woman he loved. In my opinion, this book could not be considered a stand-alone. This was the first book I read by Elaine Manders, and I struggled to understand the character’s decisions because I’d missed out in reading the first in the series.

Aside from missing these connections, the book was well-written and thoroughly researched. This was the sequel to Rhyan and Carianne’s romance and since Rhyan broke off their engagement, there wasn’t as many romantic scenes as I would have liked. However, the few romantic scenes were easily swoon-worthy.

I enjoyed the plot development that allowed me to learn more about the historical 1880’s while drawing me into the sweet romance. There were some plot twists and unexpected turns that kept me on my toes. While Rhyan struggled with his faith, Carianne prayed harder for him. I loved seeing her unwavering faithfulness to God, even during her struggles.

I would give this book five stars. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

“Surrendered” is the second book in Elaine Manders’ Intrigue Under Western Skies series. I so appreciated that I was informed that the first book of the series was a free Kindle offering and I had a chance to read it first. I suppose “Surrendered” might be enjoyed as a stand alone but so much happened in “Pursued” that led up to the events in the second installment. My opinion is that “Surrendered” will be appreciated more if the series is read in order.

Anyone who has followed my blog for any length of time knows that I adore western novels. It’s probably a throwback to evenings spent watching westerns on TV with my dad but I definitely have a soft spot for cowboys. The front cover was all it took to grab my attention. Fortunately the story inside the covers was worthy of that handsome cowboy on the front. I found plenty of action, danger, and drama as well as a beleaguered romance that kept me wondering how it would all work out.

Both Rhyan and Carianne were strong characters who were surrounded by an excellent supporting cast, especially Colt and his mother. I especially liked how often faith and prayer were included as a natural part of the story throughout both books. Some surprises along the way kept things interesting yet everything turned out exactly right by the end.

Determined to marry the woman of his dreams, Rhyan Cason’s dream is put on hold when anthrax invades his ranch and the surrounding ranches in the town. In fact, folks are holding Rhyan responsible – all based upon previous exploits in his life. Now Rhyan must work to redeem his name, not only from the town, but from the love of his life, Carianne Barlow.

Carianne thought she knew Rhyan, but the accusations surrounding his character can’t be so easily disregarded. When Rhyan breaks their engagement, Carianne seeks solace in continuing her mission to build a library she’s promised the town. As Rhyan works to prove himself and Carianne struggles to discern the truth, will the sins of the past destroy their chance at a future together?

Surrendered is the second novel in Elaine Manders’ Intrigue Under Western Skies series. This western will leave you ready to put on your cowgirl boots, toss on a cowgirl hat, and settle in for a wild read.

Sometimes you pick up a book to read and from the first page it grabs you and won't let go, this is one of those books. I enjoyed how the characters were flawed yet real. Rhyan has pretty much everything a guy could ever want, except a relationship with the Lord. He knows in order for Carianne and him to be able to marry he must be a believer. I like how he didn't let that sway him though. He knew if he was going to have a relationship it had to be true and on his terms, not just for Carianne.
Carianne basically knew she loved Rhyan from the first time she laid eyes on him but she's made a promise to herself, she refuses to marry an unbeliever. I like how she loved him in spite of himself. She could've beat him over the head with verses or pointed out his many flaws, yet that's not what she does, she asks him questions designed to make him think deeper thoughts than he would on his own. She also lives out her faith by using her means, int his case her money, to provide for the town and for individuals in need. She's not desperate for a husband. Don't get me wrong she loves Rhyan and has every intention of marrying him but she's not going to sit around pining after him.
All in all I truly enjoyed Surrendered and believe you will too! I can't wait for the next book in the series to see if Rhyan ever finds his mom and to see if Colt finds himself a wife.

I really enjoyed this story that takes place in Nebraska. The time of ranchers wanting all the land and the fight over it. Struggle, hard times, anthrax, Christian romance and suspense made for a wonderful story "Under Western Skies"

This is the first book that I have read by Elaine Manders, but it will not be the last. “Surrendered” is book two in the “Intrigue Under Western Skies” series. While you can read this book as a stand alone, I would recommend reading the “Pursued” (book one) before reading this one. I did not read the first book, but wish I had because I was slightly lost. I plan on trying to get a copy of the first book though; so that, I can read the beginning of Ryhan and Carianne’s story.

I enjoyed this book very much. I immediately fell in love with Ryhan and Carianne. They are both strong characters with minds of their own who want their own ways. Both learn that they need to surrender their wills to God before they can have peace and a happy life together. I really hope that there is another book to continue Ryhan and Carianne's journey.

The story is also filled with twists and turns, ups and downs, intrigue, adventure, and romance. I am not usually one to read a Western book, but I loved this one. I wanted to join them in their antics, and I would love to visit Sollano. If you are looking for a fun read, then I would recommend this story.

I loved reading "Surrendered" by Elaine Manders, but yes I have to say, it I am glad I read "Pursued" first. No, you don't have to read "Pursued" to enjoy "Surrendered " but it does give a little more history on what is really going on and what happened before.

"Surrendered" starts where "Pursued" leaves off. "Surrendered" is a novel filled with twists and turns and this reader was kept reading because I just had to see if Carianne fulfilled her dream of building a culture center. Oh and yes I had to see if she ended up with Rhyan Cason or Colt Holliman.

There is also mystery in between the pages of both "Pursued" and "Surrendered".

These books show that just because something is rumored and yes even posted in the society pages, doesn't mean it is true.

These books shows that to be completely happy you have to be completely Surrendered to God.

Of course, there is the obvious matchmaking in this book, and I say obvious because even the characters that are being set up know it.

I really love the ending and the "Miracles" that happen in these books. I know there are some readers that are going to say "of course there are miracles in the book because Christian books are supposed to have miracles in them, but I believe miracles happen in "real life" also."

My heart was hurting for both Carianne Barlow and Rhyan Cason in several scenes in "Surrendered".

I really hope there is a third book in the "Intrigue under Western Skies" series.

I recommend these books to readers that like Christian Historical Romance, and Westerns, though they are more romance stories. I believe that even readers that don't normally like Christian romances would like these because of the mystery.

God is very much part of this story but the story isn't preachy but like Rhyan discovers how can you look into the heavens and not believe in the Creator.

I am giving "Surrendered" by Elaine Manders five stars.

I just love the 1880's time period. It's probably my favorite time periods next to Civil War and Reconstruction. I really enjoyed taking a step back in time and reading this story. This is the first book that I have read from this author and I really enjoyed it.
This is the second book in a series, and while I have not read the first book (I will be now!) I did not have too many issues following along.
This book is a great reminder that you need to be completely surrendered to God to understand his will and to be happy.

Surrendered is the second book in the Intrigue Under Western Skies. I had not had the opportunity to read the first book before starting this one, but I was able to follow the story with few problems. That being said, I'm sure my enjoyment would have been greater with the backstory firmly in place before reading what happens in this installment and I plan on going back to read and fill in the gaps.

My favorite part of this book is the focus and affirmation on true love, not just romantic love--the kind that puts the other person ahead of one's own desires, even when it is incredibly painful to do so. Time after time I watched both of the main characters (and even several secondary ones) do the right thing instead of taking the easier path.

There is also wonderful historical detail; I felt like I learned about many things I did not know before. Ranching, prohibition, and the railroad are all at least touched on at various points, some more developed than others, but it all comes together nicely to give a well-developed setting.

I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy westerns and suggest beginning with the first novel and join the characters from the start. Those with an interest in Nebraska or ranching history will also likely find much to enjoy here.

I found this to be a very "full" book. The characters all had quite a history from the first book in the series, Pursued. I was able to follow this second book well, without having read the first. Anyway, this book was full of characters with depth, full of plot twists, and full of very descriptive writing. It was easy and enjoyable to read, and was full of themes of faith.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, through Celebrate Lit, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.
