Spiders with personality use their webs to demonstrate opposites in this clever concept board book.
Sixteens pairs of opposite words are presented with wit, whimsy, and webs. Familiar opposites like day and night are presented alongside more unexpected pairs like visible and invisible, proving that there's no web these silly spiders can't spin! Young readers will stretch both their imaginations and vocabularies as they laugh along with our eight-eyed, eight-legged friends.
Rob Hodgson is an illustrator and designer with a deep interest in how and why we make pictures. He grew up on a healthy dose of skateboarding and Morrissey in an English seaside town. He now lives in Bristol with his girlfriend and two highly intelligent cats.
oday he lives in Bristol where he spends his days making a mess and turning it into quality illustration projects and books. He cites Yoko Ono, Ed Templeton and Arthur Russell among his influences.
A wonderful book to use to teach littles about opposites. It has many standard examples (big/small, day/night, etc.), but also examples that can help expand your young child's vocabulary (simple/complex, clockwise/counterclockwise, expected/unexpected). And the illustrations are adorable! A must buy for your board book collection :)
Aww! This book! Despite my admitted squeamishness around spiders, WEB OPPOSITES was absolutely charming and hilarious. I loved the goofy, many-eyed crawlies and their increasingly creative web creations. Funny, cute, and creative--whether you're a toddler or a librarian tasked with cataloguing board books!
My 3 month old absolutely loves this book! She pays attention the whole time and smiles and laughs at some of the pages. Definitely a good one for very littles with creative imagery and a fun concept.
I read this at the front desk with my coworker and we probably annoyed the library patrons with our constant stream of "Awww, how adorable!" squees. The illustrations are truly a delight.
I really liked that the author used some opposites you don't normally see in books of opposites (expected & unexpected, matched & Mismatched) with a clever ending.
My 2 month old was extremely mesmerized by this book and of course being the spider lover I am it warmed my heart. Loved everything about this book and definitely will have to own it
