It's worth mentioning that my perspective as a man may have influenced my disappointment with the book. However, even taking that into consideration, I still feel that the content could have been better presented as a TED talk or a Medium article. The information is too superficial to justify a full-length book and could have been effectively communicated in a more concise format.
The author presents a one-dimensional approach to starting a side hustle and fails to address the challenges and obstacles that come with it. The advice is shallow and lacks practicality, and many of the ideas presented are oversimplified.
Additionally, the book lacked originality and failed to offer any new insights. Most of the information could be easily found on the internet for free.
Overall, I would not recommend this book to anyone looking to start a side hustle. The advice is poorly researched and lacks depth, and there are much better resources available that provide a more comprehensive and practical approach to starting a successful side hustle.
This book did not disappoint just like the other books that she has written it has a lot of knowledge as it relates to finance and mostly business and how to brand and build your business to something that will become valuable in the future. Valuable information this is something that you should read more than once so that you understand how to apply yourself using the knowledge in the book.
DNF at 34%. Ideal for readers who are really just getting started on their side hustle (as opposed to in the "building" stage), and especially for those who are offering specific goods or services. My hustle is as a freelance writer/editor, which has less-concrete customers and deliverables than, say, a cleaning business or a bakery. Good tool for beginners, though.
Disappointed..I think the hardest part was when the author started explaining how to Google things. It really reminded me of the new-age pyramid scheme where people sell courses on how to sell courses. The only part that seemed helpful was the chapter on finance, I would’ve rather had a whole book on that (which I thought this was). Also reminded me a bit of “We Should All Be Millionaires” with the mindset that you should want your side hustle to turn into entrepreneurship.
"Clever Girl Finance" by Bola Sokunbi is an empowering and accessible guide to personal finance. Sokunbi's approachable tone and practical advice make complex financial concepts easy to understand. The book covers topics like budgeting, saving, and investing, with a focus on women's financial independence. Sokunbi's expertise shines through, and her encouragement is motivating. While some sections feel slightly repetitive, the book's strengths lie in its relatable examples and actionable steps. A valuable resource for anyone seeking financial literacy, especially women looking to take control of their finances. Highly recommended for its clarity and practicality.
Very basic info, mostly a repeat of her other books framed as side hustles. While there is some good stuff (like the overview on corporation types) it's mostly so basic it won't help you. At one point, you are advised to use google, and how to google. If you have never thought of a side hustle at all or just need some ideas to think about, give it a go, otherwise, there are much better options in this genre. There is also no looking at the challenges here - it's more a "if you dream it it will happen and we're all amazing!" in tone.
Another great business book to recommend, it's inspiring as well as clear cut on how to start a small side business, a hustle, as you continue to work in your current job. Very practical and has personal stories to inspire you to reach for your own money making dreams. She has a few other books out too and I aim to read them all, very good writer and love to hear about a financially astute businesswoman.
This book was amazing! A must read for anyone wanting to start a side hustle/small business or anyone that wants to grow theirs. It was very well organized, easy to follow in a step by step way, very knowledgeable and quality information. I highly suggest this book to anyone and everyone who is seriously looking to start their own business.
DNF at 9%, I'm running for the hills after hearing the author worked for a multilevel marketing scheme. Might come crawling back if I decide that I still want to hear what she has to say about her experiences after that, but will take it with a handful of salt.
It's an alright-alright book for me because it aids in the development of my side business, but I'd say it's not all that beneficial if you live outside of America because some of the topics covered here aren't relevant to someone like me who wants to start an organization in a developing nation.
Bola Sokunbi is able to break down the overall concept into digestible and understandable parts using words and experiences women can relate to. I borrow this from my local library. I will be buying a copy.
Not a bad book, got me motivated, but very repetitive and basic knowledge. I read halfway through and then just skimmed because it was mostly filler words to gill up the space
Helpful for those who want to start but don't know HOW to start. If you don't have any mentors, business knowledge, or connections, this book is a great place to start.
started out great and covered good points but soon it felt into tax and fees stuff which is unique to a business and country rather than generic ideas on side hustle. Good book though
The Side Hustle guide... concise strategy for envisioning and establishing a side hustle as a business. Working through challenges and successes in owning your personal journey, author provides excellent suggestions and resources throughout. Many interviews with women in business who started their own companies.
It took me almost a year to finish this book. I kept picking it up and putting it down. It did have some good tips but it just didn't really grab me. I was a fan of her podcast but this book fell a bit flat.
