She is the red-haired she-devil with the sword. They are the green-skinned invaders from the red planet. Yes, those dastardly Mars Attacks Martians are attacking again, and these are the Martians of old, the Martians of the Hyborian Age. And so, it's up to Red Sonja to stop the attack. But how will steel, strength and savagery stand again laser guns, sci-fi technology and weird, weird Martian science? Only one way to find out! Buy this freakin' book!
When warriors rise up against evil Martian scientists.
For those that remember the Topps cards and/or the movie of Mars Attacks the concept of these bulbous brained despots from Mars is probably pretty familiar and on the other side of the coin we see the only barbarian that could put Conan in his place, Sonja (who also has an older movie.) When an evil scientist is sent away from Mars to Earth on a peaceful mission during the times of swords and sorcery it becomes a bloodbath as people are slaughtered for power and amusement.
Now a band of survivors joined by Sonja must face the seemingly impossible and fight against the vastly more technological enemy with what tools they can gather and hearts filled with pride and warrior spirit. Honestly I was a little surprised by the near ending of the series but it turned out to be a pretty good ending and the art was pretty spot on capturing both Sonja's ferocious spirit and the variety of Martians she had to fight. All in all if you like both franchises why not give it a try. :)
This was about as dumb as you would expect. I had hoped that John Layman (writer of the excellent Chew and Outer Darkness) would elevate it a bit, but no. He seems to have no familiarity with Red Sonja or her world, and instead fills the book with generic Dungeons and Dragons tropes and the odd poorly placed "Crom!" exclamation (sorry Mr. Layman, but only Conan says that). The lack of attention to detail might be forgiven in what should be a comedy, but there is a curious lack of actual humor here as well. It's difficult to tell whether this is supposed to be funny or not.
Red Sonja must be the hottest thing Dynamite has, so many different things with Sonja on it coming out. And that avalanche affects on quality, because these have not been that good lately. There were couple funny things in the cross-over but still some desperation in lack of ideas could be sensed.
More fun than you might expect. The story was the highlight, it was wacky but not too goofy. I enjoyed the dialogue and characters. The artwork was ok. Had the artwork been excellent, this would be a definite recommend.
Not the greatest, but what I felt like was the best they could have done with the premise. I had fun reading it. However.... SPOILERS AHEAD:
When Red Sonja had to fight herself, that also had just happened in Red Sonja: Worlds Away. Still pretty fucking cool to see her as a Mars Attacks alien though. Definitely has it's problems but a fun read if you don't care that much about Sonja's backstory and etc... Time travel is in the stories a lot so if you're sick of that, maybe skip this one. Just there for the novelty, just like the other Mars Attacks crossovers.

An sci-fi, action, fantasy romp that neither adds nor subtracts from the Red Sonja or Mars Attacks universe. The plot is action-heavy, and the artwork is bland, but this book is still a fun, light read.
