I was born and brought up in Edinburgh. After studying at Edinburgh and Stirling Universities, and after a good deal of displacement activity (varying from spending three months in the rainforests of Borneo trying to record the dawn chorus of gibbons to briefly working in a tea warehouse / factory), I moved to England to enter the world of full-time employment.

As much by luck as judgement, I had a series of on the whole enjoyable and interesting jobs, mostly based in London. All of them save one have been in the charity sector, and at various times they have involved extensive overseas travel, environmental and community projects, nature conservation and fundraising.

Writing was a big feature of my childhood, and has ebbed and flowed as a spare-time occupation ever since. I sold a couple of short stories in the 1990s, but didn’t really start thinking seriously about writing novels until the 21st Century had got underway.

At the start of 2003, I turned myself into a freelance consultant on environmental projects, partly in order to devote more time to writing; since then, the writing side of things has taken over almost completely.

I am now back in Edinburgh, where I live with my lovely wife, and miss the excitement of London only a little, and only occasionally.

This is getting rather boring, really.
I think, the main problem with this continuity is the sheer amount of characters. They are given a lot less time here and therefore they aren't compelling enough. I just don't care about them.

Megatron is a lot less interesting this time around. Instead of being a good-intentioned extremist freedom fighter, in this continuity he is just a straight-up fascist with no nuance or good intentions.

Optimus Prime is a lot more boring too. Kind of indecisive good-two-shoes. He always was a good-natured pacifist, but he always took action, when nessesary, even if it turned out wrong. Here is just... does nothing, but sit on his ass.

The story is taking up pace this time around, but this is a FORTH book out of SIX.
If I wasn't a die-hard fan of the previous IDW continuity, I would not bother finishing this.

The war between the Deceptions and The Autobots continue and Orion Pax finally embraces Optimus Prime.
A slew of favourites pop up and get involved in the action - Ratchet, Hoist, Wheeljack, Huffer and Gears to name a few.
The Autobots try to help the non-transformer population of Cybertron and Starscream continues to make a grab for some kind of power.
And Bumblebee, Bumblebee takes form again.

2 main story arcs included, first has the beginning of the big payoff of the buildup of the last few collections, Orion Pax/Optimus Prime steps up, and open war is beginning to be evident. The second arc is background story (not as central of characters) but does have a couple nice moments as well.

Valentine's special is great. Everything else is just so slow and drawn out.

Slow start off, but at some point I started enjoying it. Just for the record, I did not read the first three volumes and that possibly why it took me a bit to enjoy it.

It has been bit harder for me to fully dive into the new Transformers continuity as it has felt like quite the slow burn as it re-establishes the new reality. But between volumes 3 and 4 of the period, things are REALLY picking up.

We have open conflict on Cybertron and the surrounding areas as the Decepticons act swiftly to control key resources to cement their position. The Autobots still aren't quite the ones we're used to as they're still with different pre-existing factions on this Cybertron. But you feel events pushing them together as the Depceptions help with that pushing in their own very aggressive way.

It's a lot to take in and the decision to combine the stories of two different comics into one volume (simlar to the last few) makes for richer but also more difficult reading.

I hope to see this through to the end, but it has become a lot harder to try to get these comics on this side of the planet for one reason or another.

well written and entertaining

Good volume, another in a series of Transformer successes. This volume wasn’t quite as good as previous in the series with slightly less action and character development but it was still quite good. I recommend it to fans of this series and fans of Transformer comics.

Interesting

Very interesting IDW Transformers reboot. So sad it ended so soon. I've heard good things about the Energon comic universe, though.
