My First 100 Space Words by Chris Ferrie is an amazing book for young readers. As a teacher, I recommend it for young readers ranging from birth to 1st grade. The book is illustrated with bright colorful pictures that demonstrate things about and from space. Topics of coverage include the the solar system, the Milky Way, theory and much more. It's a great read for fun. This book makes introducing the topics early on super easy!

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Chris Ferrie, https://csferrie.com/, has written a number of books featuring science topics for young children. My First 100 Space Words is a colorful board book for the very young. It provides an excellent introduction to words like constellation, cosmic dust, solar, and space junk.

Now, perhaps an eight-month-old or even a two-year-old won’t grasp all of the concepts covered in My First 100 Space Words. That’s not the important issue in reading the book to a young child. Introducing the words is the important part.

As the child grows, other books appropriate for his or her age can introduce the concepts again and with greater explanations. Thus, the child begins to use the terms as appropriate for his or her age.
The colorful illustrations by Lindsay Dale Scott will keep the child’s attention too. The illustrations are crisp and clear. Children and parents will enjoy saying such words as spectroscopy, ultraviolet, and autonomous robot as they go through the book.

Too, with such board books, parents don’t have to read to the children from page one to the end. They can dip into the book at any point and read the words aloud, pointing out the objects as they read.

I am not suggesting that infants or even two-year old children will understand all the words in My First 100 Space Words. We do know, however, that introducing words to a child will take hold; then later as the child matures, he or she will be able to add to those words with meaning. In truth, My First 100 Space Words is a book to be enjoyed by parents and children.

Illustrations by artist Lindsay Dale Scott, http://www.lindsaydaleart.com/, will intrigue all readers.
I received a free copy from Sourcebooks and Earlyreads in exchange for my fair review.

MY FIRST 100 SPACE WORDS is a cute, illustrated collection of space-related words, including planet names, satellites, space junk, and other terms. Each word is accompanied by an illustration that helps to show the term, and they are grouped with related words on page spreads. There is a lot of color throughout, and many of the planets and objects have very cute smiles.

What I loved: There is a wide variety of terms in the book that can spark an early interest in outer space. The illustrations are really adorable and have lots of colors and little smiles that will intrigue young readers. The size of the book is great for small hands, and the board book pages are easy to turn. Most words will be familiar to parents, which is helpful if you have an inquisitive child who wants to understand more.

What left me wanting more: This is most helpful for infants and young toddlers, as there is not a storyline or definitions/additional information, which would be desired by older/curious children.

Final verdict: Overall, MY FIRST 100 SPACE WORDS is a cute collection of words related to outer space with accompanying colorful illustrations. Great for infants and young toddlers who are learning new words, this is a fun collection.

Please note that I received a review copy from Sourcebooks Early Reads. All opinions are my own.

Well I finally Googled the author as I completed this book and checked his name in Goodreads to find out he has written ALOT of children's books. Chris a Canadian physicist, mathematician, researcher and children's book author and is quite young for all his accomplishments. So if you are already a fan, I think you will enjoy this book as well though I think I prefer his 100 Nature Words more. This book continues with the smiling objects theme I liked in his earlier book. As well, even adults can learn big words like Aphelion and Perihelion. There are more pictures of females than males in the book and the astronaut might be male or female so I appreciate that about the book (credit on this might equally belong to the artist: Lindsay Dale Scott). Recommend. Thanks to Sourcebooks Early Reads for providing this book

I received a finished copy of this book as part of the Sourcebooks First to Read program. I wanted to read and review this board book because I've read and enjoyed this author's previous books. I loved the bright colors, the variety of terms, and the happy faces on the space objects (made me smile back). I also found plenty of words I am unfamiliar with and will be researching. Space, space exploration, and space travel are all fun topics for me and this book is an excellent introduction for young readers (in age and heart) to space. This would make a fun gift for baby showers, stocking stuffers, and of course, birthdays.

A fun book for young children to learn about space. All the objects have smiley faces. The illustrations are very colorful and adorable. There are some hard words that might be difficult for young children. I did like how he broke each page to something related to the title. He included Earth, Orbital, Lunar, Solar and many more. Perfect book for children that love space. This would be a great book to teach them about all the fun things Space has to offer.

Lots of words in this one that as an educated adult, I would need/want to look up. I know it's an introduction and as much for the adult doing the read-aloud as the babies, but this seems heavy-handed.

I love space though. And putting cute faces on things.

I was pleased to see Pluto (as a dwarf planet).

I am interested to see if my son likes this a little bit better when he's older. He's 15 months right now. He gets bored with the ones in this series that are illustrated instead of photographs. The "my first 100 words" books that have photographs really captivate him and he loves reading them over, and over, and over. But ones like this that are illustrated.. he doesn't seem to care about.
