It was supposed to be a casual affair…

Dr. Teresa Roe moved from the bustling city to small-town Pennsylvania, hoping the slower pace would help her focus on finding a partner and building a family. Unfortunately, life had other plans, and Teresa finds herself single in her mid-forties, unable to have the children she craves. Determined to focus on the positives, she builds her thriving therapy practice and joins a hook-up app looking for a fun, no-strings-attached affair.

Mark Lancaster has no time to date or cultivate a relationship, so meeting women on hook-up apps is perfect for his busy schedule. When he meets Teresa, he can’t believe his fortune at finding someone so smart, sexy, and funny. In fact, his casual affair with her quickly becomes the highlight of his hectic life.

When Mark decides to run for County District Attorney, his opponent quickly reveals their relationship, spinning their affair as nefarious and creating a scandal that almost derails the campaign. Thankfully, Teresa agrees to enter into a fake engagement, saving him from ruin. But the road to victory isn’t easy, and as they grow closer, the relationship they both swear is casual begins to grow into something real…

Can two fiercely independent souls find true love amidst scandal?

Welcome back to Ardor Creek! If you love fake relationship shenanigans that lead to true love, this book is for you! As with all of Ayla’s books, there’s a slight holiday theme, and this one ends with a romantic Christmas. There are discussions of infertility and domestic abuse so please consider that before you read. Enjoy!

I absolutely love this contemporary romance series for the way it features slightly more mature characters (we need love, too!) facing real life struggles. At 46, Dr. Theresa Roe hasn’t yet found a life partner. She has established a successful therapy practice. But she’s privately hurting after years of expensive IVF treatments that have failed to help her get pregnant and have also left her with extensive debt. She meets Mark on a dating app and the two of them agree to keep it casual (this novel has everything I love—both sweet and steamy), but of course, an instant connection is obvious. But when Mark decides to run for DA against a crooked opponent, his advisors tell him his only option is a fake engagement (another of my favorite tropes!)

There was also a domestic abuse plotline involving Mark’s sister that was really well written. One thing I really love about Ardor Creek is getting to see what happens with the other characters from older books, as well as guess which characters might be getting a book coming up in the future! This one was one of my favorites.

Pure Attraction

4.5 stars - Teresa and Mark's story is absolutely amazing! They are two lonely people in their 40s looking for a connection, even if only physical, via an app. From the beginning, they each recognize something in the other that makes it just feel right.

Circumstances make their private matters very public. There is a clear case of David and Goliath in this story as the incumbent DA uses some underhanded tactics. It's sickening, some of the things he does but not an uncommon fact, in reality.

I love the stories in this series and how they feel so real. You feel like you could step into Ardor Creek and be welcomed into the community. Specific to this book, I like how Teresa grounds Mark and gets him to focus on the big picture a few times. I also really loved how she publicly thrashed sensationalist journalists and used the opportunity afforded her to set the record straight on her profession. Then there are the events with Mark's sister and how Teresa rolls with all of the changes.

The engagement might be fake but the ride they hop on makes it obvious that there's more between them than just what happens in the bedroom. There's a LOT of heart, steamy encounters, silliness, and genuine tenderness between this couple. They have supporting friends and family who are fantastic! Many of whom we've met in prior books in the series.

Do know that there are domestic violence encounters and corrupt politicians in this book. Another topic that takes the stage, and nearly steals the show, is infertility.

I listened to this book. I've said it before - I like Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross a lot. They do a wonderful job and I like how the male voices are consistently done by Wen and Kai with the females. If you've ever listened to a two person narration team that divided the book based on the POV of certain character(s) named at the beginning of each chapter, you'll understand how this seemingly little thing enhances the experience.

I've been following the author since her first book. And I've successfully established a fact that her writing style is really amazing. The ease she shows in the plot and character building is something I love about her.
That's always the strongest point of her book, that her characters are so distinguished.
This story too was different from the rest of her books. I liked the idea of a couple in their 40s finding the love of their life. I meam 40 is an age where normal people are already busy in the upbringing of their kids and that's the age where the author thought her characters can find love which was so heart touching.
Another point was where they couldn't have kids. This is another soft spot for any couple, to have kids, watch them grow, see yourself in them etc etc. Author has very maturely handled this emotinal topic as well.
I like the way story was going. Everything felt natural.

Happily Ever After

I am hopelessly devoted to this wonderful author. Every book I read leads me to quickly pick up another. I have said before the characters are so well developed and this book is no exception. Too be honest, I lived this story. Trying all options to get pregnant without success. It leaves an emptiness inside you that no matter how successful you are there’s a lingering feeling that you are missing something. The toll it takes on your personal relationships is hard to explain. Unlike our heroine, I was fortunate to adopt 2 beautiful children but it was too late to salvage my marriage to the love of my life. Sadly it ended in divorce. A good man who always wanted a child of his own. I moved on, loving being a Mom, my career took off. I was happy watching my children grow up. Their Dad, had a few more failed relationships but didn’t fail as a Dad. Close friends made up our family and time flew by. It wasn’t until my youngest graduated College that I reconnected with my daughters God father. Happily married for over 15 years.
I related so much to this story, our author never rushed the story. I could feel for this couple as they struggled to make each other happy. Their friends are real and also well developed and I can’t wait to read their stories too.

Mark is successful lawyer and our good Dr., is REAl! There intimacy grows and the sex is hot but does not take over the story. If you know of anyone with fertility problems you will see how well the author writes the sadness but has a way of showing how 2 people in love can overcome the disappointment.
Enjoy the book! Stay safe and stay home and read! Thank you for sharing your story!

This is a light and charming book series that deals with complex and difficult topics; Addiction, grief, fertility problems, and abuse but the way the writer conveys these issues in such a delicate, sensitive, light-hearted, and yet deep and painful way is an art in its own right.
The author took unconventional and very sensitive topics and wrote them in such a thoughtful and good way in books that they were able to bring out the depth of the issues, dealing with them and the awareness along with laughter, love, and hope.

I really LOVED Mark. He was so genuine, mature, and dedicated.
Teresa was amazing in her strength that was very inspiring.
I loved these couple so much and I'm sure I will re-read this book.

Series Ardor Creek #3

Back to Ardor Creek I go! I love visiting this small town and I love that Ayla Asher features more mature characters in this series. It's a pleasure to relate to women close to my age. This story features Dr Theresa Roe. Unable to get pregnant, even with medical help, she finds herself looking for companionship on a dating app. These two hit it off immediately, but decide to keep it casual. Now Mark is running for DA and his opponent will use anything to prevent him from being elected. Even how he met his current girlfriend. How will these two handle it? Sparks fly, plans are set and it's time to find out how it all plays out! I love these two characters. Mark is attentive and swoony, and has a good handle on where his life is going. It's fun to see how Theresa can throw a wrench into his plans. Theresa is sweet and caring, lover her with Mark's niece and is willing to do what it takes. I love how Asher weaves in relevant issues like domestic abuse into her plots too, making the story current and realistic. It's a wonderful addition to this series.

Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross continue to bring Ardor Creek to life. This team never ceases to amaze me on how they find the characters' voice and create their personalities. Each one is perfectly fit. The chemistry between them is always evident and makes the romance flourish. Another fantastic listen!

Imperfect happily ever after

I freaking loved it. This is such a unique contemporary romance for me! They didn’t meet by so sweet way that so many do. I love the whole dating app aspect and the drama that came with it. These characters are older which is something I adore because I’m older and it’s nice to see love that is always young and perfect. My favorite part is that there’s so much talk about invitro and the way it affects woman who go through it. I did IVF and planned the adoption route but was a lucky one who ended up miraculously pregnant. I love that these characters face that issue and it’s not a miracle ending. It’s a beautifully imperfect perfect ending. I felt so much in this book from the main characters to the side characters and loved the stand they each choose to take even if it wasn’t the easiest way. Freaking loved it. And I love the narrators. I get so excited every time I start a book with this pair because they rock everything they do! Yes I listened to and read the book! It’s just that good! (But hey there are some triggers domestic violence being the main one so heads up!)

Note: All of Asher’s books & audios are in KoboPlus at the time of this review.

This is book 3 in Ayla Asher’s Ardor Creek series. While this stands alone in terms of the couple's relationship, characters and events are introduced in earlier books which make these best enjoyed in order.

Asher is great at combining burgeoning relationships with serious topics. There’s angst but it isn’t over the top or needlessly drawn out. I enjoyed this no-strings lovers becomes fake engagement romance. When their "just sex" relationship threatens Mark’s run for DA, Teresa agrees to become his fiancé.

While few people in town seemed to think it was actually real, the real focus was on whether or not they would eventually become more. A lot of hurdles to overcome and honest conversations. Add in a nefarious political opponent and a family member on trial.

There was a third-act-breakup, but it was resolved quickly and I liked their HFN and the epilogue. I’m excited for Chad’s story, Resolutions Embraced as well as Justine & Gary’s book, Passions Fulfilled.

Narration:
Wonderful duet narration by Kai Kennicott & Wen Ross. They continue to do a fantastic job bringing Asher’s characters to life. Especially with all the emotions.

Desires Uncovered
Ardor Creek #3
by Ayla Asher
Narrated by Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross

Ayla Asher takes us back to Ardor Creek with another wonderful romance novel. I am loving this series and it is great to visit Ardor Creek again, it is also great to see the characters from the first two books again too. I highly recommend starting this series from the beginning, not only are the books awesome but some of those characters appear in each others story and it is nice knowing who they are. That said, if you missed the first two books, it would not take away anything from this story. This is a fake relationship turn real type of romance, though it never really felt fake to me. I adored both lead characters, they are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. Mark Lancaster and Dr. Teresa Roe are career orientated, both are in their 40’s and do not have time or patience to date, so they turn to a hookup app instead. The two meet and they are more than comfortable with each other, they find each other attractive and compatible so much so they decide to make a one night no strings attached hookup to a steady two nights a week no strings attached hookup. But their arrangement must end when Mark decides to run for the County District Attorney. He wants the corrupt D.A, James Chisolm out of office. But Chisolm runs a nasty campaign and is out to ruin Mark and doing so includes smearing easy comments about Teresa and her career as a therapist. Mark’s campaign manager has a solution, he just needs to convince Teresa, who wants nothing to do with the limelight, to go along. After consideration Teresa is on board adding in a few of her own conditions. The two strike up a fake engagement and move in together to make it even more convincing. Can these two manage to keep feelings out of their fake relationship that has a time limit? I was rooting for these two, I thought they were great together and for each other. Neither one had time for a relationship, yet their fake one was working out great. But she knows he wants kids and that is not something she can give him, will she sacrifice her own happiness so he could get his. In addition to their romance there are some side stories, including his sister and her abusive husband he wants her and her daughter out of that house and abusive relationship which happens but not in a way you were expecting it happen. This book is so much more than a fake relationship romance, the story is wonderfully plotted with plenty of drama, heartfelt and emotional moments, a touch of angst, some twists and turns and some hot romance. Some serious real life situations are covered and Ayla Asher did a great job covering them while keeping it all real. Thank you for another awesome story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I loved every minute of it!

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Kai Kennicott and Wenn Ross did an awesome job portraying the characters, giving each their own voice and personality. Kai Kennicott played Teresa’s role with perfection, Wen Ross did the same for Mark, both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters too. Their duet performance enhances this story to another level of awesomeness, they capture the chemistry between the characters as well as all their emotions which is reflect in their performance. These fabulously talented narrators are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

It's official. Ardor Creek is in the top five places on my fictional location bucket list.
I adore this series and jump at the chance to review the books. They're the kind of books you think about if you can't read them in one sitting because life interferes, or days later they enter your mind.
I love that these characters are older, together. There are slight age differences, but most of these characters are similar in age, mostly in the '40s. They have mature responses to life events and circumstances and their dark moments are always deeply emotional and need more than a simple conversation to solve them.
We've briefly met both Mark and Teresa in previous books and they are both interesting characters on their own, but wonderful together. Their "meet-cute" is one we don't see often in romance, using a hook-up app, but suits their personalities well. hooking-up adult style.
As always, Ayla's female characters are sensually assertive, not shy about what they want and what they don't, and Teresa is no different. She's honest about her capabilities and very self-aware, even in difficult times. She handles everything life throws at her in a calm, rational way. She is independent and capable and enjoys her solitude as much as she enjoys socializing. She's a well-written, well-rounded, mature character.
Mark is currently a perpetual bachelor. His professional life doesn't leave him much time for personal relationships, much like Teresa's. He's a stand-up guy. Passionate about his work, protective of his family, and a fantastic friend. He doesn't take much for himself, seemingly happy with his lot in life until he meets Teresa. He's a man of character who defends things he believes in and fights for justice.
I enjoy how Ayla writes these books and shows that healthy, inventive sex doesn't have to diminish as we age. These characters take a direct and humorous approach to both sharing intimate moments and aging. It's a fresh take on characters and I truly appreciate it.
Like other books, she has written, there are elements of seriousness within the pages. We explored the issue of domestic violence in Illusions Unveiled and even further in this book with Mark's sister and niece. This issue and Teresa's powerlessness to naturally have children are written thought-provokingly, informatively, and sensitively. Any reader who has struggled with these, and the other things we see in these books, won't feel alone in their struggle.
The fact that these books are very progressive and feminist is a huge drawcard for me.
Ayla never fails to make her readers think, laugh, and cry all within the space of one book.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest, voluntary review and all opinions are my own.

** For mature audiences **

Welcome back to Ardor Creek!

When a casual relationship between two professionals, who met on an online app, starts to become more than either of them expected, things get complicated. Can they keep things casual, or will their growing feelings lead them down a different path?

Ayla Asher has once again written a fantastic story and tackled some very serious topics flawlessly. I loved getting to know the characters, Mark and Teresa, as well as hearing the updates on the characters from the two prior books.

The interactions between the two narrators, Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross, brought the story to life. They both did a great job of bring out the emotions of the characters.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

I love these narrators! They really make you care about the characters. And this story! A fake engagement that of course, turns real. Theresa and Mark have a great story where they meet through an adult app and fall in love without realizing it. They truly take care of each other and help each other out. They have some bumps, but prevail in the end. I could read or listen to this author’s work all day, everyday.

Desires Uncovered is book #3 in the Ardor Creek series, and my favourite. It’s the story of Mark and Teresa who’ve found each other through a dating app and ended up being fake engaged. I’m a huge fan of fake relationships and this one definitely didn’t disappoint! I absolutely loved the storyline, the interaction between Mark and Teresa, and the description of all characters (good and bad). It is so good to hear about this group of friends again, almost as if you’re part of it.
This book also has a serious topic, just like the other books, but it’s told very naturally and it never leaves a dark cloud while reading. And of course there’s a HEA.

This review is based on the audiobook. Awesome narration by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross!

I love going back to Ardor Creek and I wasn't disappointed with Desires Uncovered. I loved that they were a more mature couple (although 46 is not old!). Dr Teresa Roe can't have children and so she's looking for friendship, a companion using a dating app. She and Mark meet and they connect immediately but neither wants anything serious. However things change when Mark wants to run for DA but has been spotted with Teresa. She agrees to be his official girlfriend for a period but they can't help that their connection is strong. Mark is a real book boyfriend and I fell hard for him. There is also a serious strand to the story with the Mark's sister and her adorable daughter.

My favourite couple Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross continue to bring Ardor Creek to life. I'm never disappointed with their narration and the sparks fly again in Desires Uncovered!!

This is book three of the Ardor Creek series and brings together therapist Dr Teresa Roe and lawyer Mark Lancaster, who has just decided to run for the position of County District Attorney. Teresa had moved from the city to find somewhere more relaxed to find a partner and have a family, but she is now in her late forties and found she is unable to have kids, which was a blow. Instead she concentrates on building up her therapy practice and signs up to an app for some fun, no strings hook ups. Mark is far too busy with his law practice and now running for DA, to have a relationship, so he also uses the app. The two meet in a hotel bar for their hook up, using fake names which don’t last very long as nerves kick in for Teresa, with one of the rules is not to discuss anything personal like jobs and so on. They are perfectly matched and decide to continue this no strings affair, meeting twice a week at the hotel, taking turns to book a room and always meeting in the bar first. When Mark puts the papers in to run for DA, he didn’t realise his unsavoury opponent would immediately start following him to catch any scandal he might be involved in. When he met Teresa, he told her that would have to be their last time, as he couldn’t have anything going on in his life that could be taken the wrong way. He will also be even busier than he is at the moment. His opponent will do anything to ensure he wins and has their relationship spread all over the papers and social media the very next morning. Not something Teresa wanted, as she is a very private person and the way it is being reported will probably lose her a new contract, plus a number of clients!

When his campaign manager calls him to sort out possible outcomes and ways to deal with the issues raised, the only one that seems to poll well, is if the two of them get engaged and their hook up becomes a proper romance. It isn’t either of their first choices, with Teresa trying to pay off a few years of unsuccessful IVF rounds, whilst Mark wants a marriage and children once he is more settled after becoming DA, hopefully. For now, both were happy seeing each other regularly and hooking up, finding it easy to be with each other and not have any other pressures on any sort of relationship woes, for two very independent people who like living alone. He is lucky that Teresa agrees to be his fake fiancé and moves in with him the next day. Both their lives are very busy and he comes to realise he likes coming home to her, as time passes and he is even busier than ever. She is introduced to his group of friends and their partners, one who is even her ex-client. The journey towards election day is not easy, as his opponent continues to make life difficult for Mark, and even interferes with his criminal cases by increasing all the charges against his clients, when none of that is warranted.

A situation with his sister Justine, who lives with an abusive husband, Dean, soon explodes and his opponent makes the problem worse for Mark, his sister and her daughter Avery. Instead of forcing their fake relationship apart, this brings them even closer together and fake has soon turned real, whether they were looking for it to or not! Scandal hasn’t broken them apart, but they do need to work out what their possible futures could be, as they aren’t the same. She cannot give him what he has said he wants and no matter how much she has come to love him, sometimes you have to walk away and do the right thing for those you love instead! A mature couple of strong independent characters, who have found someone who could be their perfect match in love in an unusual manner, but have different ideas for their futures. Whether one can adjust their expectations to a loss of their dream, to be with the other, is a hard choice to make and needs time and lots of contemplation. Action forces his hand and he comes to realise what is truly important for his future and the different ways it could be achieved with the one he loves. A strong storyline, with infertility, domestic abuse and even a corrupt county official, all mixed into an unconventional love match. I look forward to seeing characters from the previous books in the next ones, as the small town community pulls together. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Overdone Trope with Some Interest

Audiobook Review:
This contemporary romance has some intriguing elements. The couple actually meets through a hookup app, but they get along so well that they continue their affair beyond what they had initially planned. Neither wants to go beyond their intimate arrangement, as what they have satisfies their needs and doesn't complicate their otherwise busy lives. Oh, but you can bet the complications are coming, though! The hero is a lawyer planning to run for district attorney, and of course, his clandestine naughtiness comes to light. His opponent, the current DA, is a shady character who isn’t afraid to play dirty. Before things even got started in the DA race, the hero had broken off the affair with the heroine because it would not play well in their rural area if it were discovered. However, once everything starts to explode, the hero's campaign manager suggests that having a fake engagement with the woman he was caught with would smooth things over with conservative voters. Of course, she agrees, and of course, that gives them time to get to know and better appreciate each other, helping them determine if they actually want to make their fake relationship real beyond the affair. In general, I think the whole fake relationship / fake engagement trope is way overdone. Seriously, how often does it happen in real life? Practically never? But I liked the added elements that were realistic, like how two adults could approach a casual intimate relationship sensibly without a requirement of a commitment in a way that isn’t at all tawdry. They are still caring and considerate toward each other, even though they don’t have a commitment.

I liked the glimpses we got of prior couples in the series. It's always fun to see couples’ lives after their book!

This audiobook has an interesting narration pattern. It has both a female and male narrator. The female does the dialogue for all the female characters, and the male narrator does the same for the male characters. The narrator of the viewpoint character’s gender does each chapter’s narrative portions. So, each chapter goes back and forth between the male and female narrators, which is cool. This is the first series where I've heard this, and it makes it feel more like a movie or an old-school radio play.

I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.

As the author noted, this book does deal with infertility problems and domestic abuse against a wife and a child.

Teresa Roe PhD, has multiple degrees. She has a psychology practice and is licensed for social work along with marriage and family therapy. At forty-six she's single never having found that one special person and not willing to settle. Her major regret is being infertile as she's always wanted children. She's tried IVF and fertility treatments but it was not to be.

Mark Lancaster is a busy lawyer who's decided to run for Lackawanna County DA. Like her, he really doesn't have time to date.

Dating apps haven't worked well for either of them. They now have gone to an app, PURE, which is for hook-ups.

They meet and like each other so they decide for two hook-up encounters a week. Things are going great until the slimy current DA finds out about their meetings and goes public with it... And as usual, supposed "facts" pop up on the internet and the media.

The polls say Mark still has a chance to win if he becomes engaged to Teresa and she moves in with him. Let the engagement begin... But there are repercussions. She's loses a large contract and some private clients. He has family drama with his younger sister's marriage along with the stress of campaigning and being constantly in the public  eye.

Things seem to be working out for them to forget a sham engagement and have a real one. But Mark has always wanted something she can never give him, biological children.

It's refreshing to have a story about an "older" couple. Love and romance don't have a cut-off age. There also was no miraculous pregnancy to solve their "problem". They were left with choices real people have to make every day.

This is a continuation of the stories of a group of close knit friends and family.

I received a free copy of this book from the author via Booksprout. I am voluntarily leaving this review.

I’m actually impressed this time around. I always find it curious in these Ayla Asher romance stories, how she’ll manage to introduce these characters and build their romance.

I found the way their relationship evolved in this story to be believable. It felt it was well-paced, which I personally find rare in romance novels. It has the obligatory drama for the sake of drama I’ve cum to expect from these stories. It really felt pointless, as a single conversation between two reasonable adults could have cleared it, so it felt as always, tacked on and unnecessary.

I always find it stupid how much people emphasize having “biological” children for no other reason than “genetics tell me to pass on my genes”. All it ever tells me is that parents only care about their kids because they share the same DNA, and not because they care about them as a person or because they just like kids. While that was somewhat addressed at the end of the story, it might have been nice if it was addressed sooner. I kept hoping it would be brought up and used as a bonding moment between the characters.

Both of the narrators did a fine job as always. They play off of each other well and it’s always a treat to have dual narrators as well. There weren’t any issues with the audio, everything was top-notch.

Fake Fiance leads to Real Choices, Real Consequences and Real Love
This is book 3 in the Ardor Creek Series. The series is best enjoyed in order. This book centers on Mark Lancaster a local attorney and good friends with the rest of the gang in Ardor Creek and Dr. Teresa Rae, a therapist in private practice. Teresa has been mentioned in book 1 and is the therapist that Scott was seeing after the death of his wife and Child. Teresa is in her mid forties and after not being able to obtain the family she desires, she decides to try for a relationship free relationship via an app designed for that purpose. Mark, on the other hand is married to his work and has had a string of “no strings”relationships by meeting people on the same app. After matching with each other on the same app, they decide on a weekly arrangement where they meet at a centrally located hotel. When Mark decides to run for county attorney his campaign advisor tells him he must clean up his womanizing image and he meets with Teresa one more time to break things off. Little do they know that his opponent is having him followed and photos are published putting their arrangement. Mark, desperate to save his campaign from failure before it begins asks Teresa to be his “fake” fiancé. She agrees and they both end up with more than they bargained for.

On the surface this book seems like a pretty standard set up for a fake relationship but the emotions and heart that a flows through the entire book series is front and center in Desires Uncovered and make it anything but ordinary. The characters also really set this book apart from the standard fake fiancé troupe. Mark and Teresa form a bond that starts in a mutual respect for each other and grows into more as Teresa becomes a part of his life. Teresa’s background as a Therapist gives her a unique perspective when dealing with the emotional fallout of being in a fake relationship with a determined playboy and the way she steps up when Mark has to assist his abused sister and his niece when the unthinkable happens makes their friendship and support true relationship goals. Great book, fabulous continuation of the series. Can’t way too see Mark’s sister get her HEA later in the series.

I listened to this book via Audiobook and it is a duet narration which really helps to draw you into the story. Loved it and its another fantastic installment in this series.

Something for the grown folks and I loved every minute of it!

***I was given a listener code in exchange for an honest review***

If ever you think to yourself when will a more mature heroine have her story told? Look no further, Cue Dr. Teresa Roe and the Mr. Mark Lancaster and prepare to fall in love with their story. This AB is performed in Duo Narration and Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross as always do not disappoint.

In this 3rd installment of the Ardor Creek Series Ayla Asher writes an amazing story about two 40 somethings and their unlikely relationship. What starts off as a modern day casual "hook up" leads to a scandal and a whole lot of plot twists. Add in trials and tribulations life has dealt Teresa, Mark the workaholic, a family complication, as well as the usual Ardor Creek suspects and you've got yourself some amazing character development and a beautiful story. Your heart will absolutely break and mend with a feeling of hopefulness after reading about Teresa and her experience and struggles. Mark's acceptance of Teresa and her imperfections will reaffirm the belief that their really is someone out there for everyone. Oh and yyyyaaasss their chemistry is HOT!! To say that Ayla Asher will give your hopeless romantic spirit a recharge is an understatement.

Another great book from this series. Teresa and Marc are dedicated to their careers and have made it to their 40's still single.
After meeting on a hook-up app, they enter into a no strings relationship, however once Marc runs for DA they enter into a fake engagement to help his election.
These two were perfect for each other, and I think they were already a little in love before they started the fake engagement. They were truly open with each other and were the epitome of talking through everything.
For two people who worked insane hours and were so committed to their careers, they both held having their own children extremely high on their 'to-do' lists, and this was the biggest stumbling block in their relationship.
The topics of infertility and domestic abuse are part of the storyline, but are included really well.
I you love small town romances, then you will definitely love this story.

Audio review - The narration by Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott is spot on, and their duel narration just pulls you into the story so much. These two have definitely become my favourite narrators.

Can two consenting 40 something adults have a casual relationship without anything getting messy?

Teresa and Mark met on a hook up ap and we're able to have a successful no strings attached casual sexual relationship that serves both their needs.

Until Mark announced he was running for District Attorney and his opponent hired a PI to follow him and uncovered their affair.

Apparently voters don't like their candidates to have consenting clandestine affairs.

Will Mark and Teresa recover?

5 ⭐️ for portraying an older couple (he's 40, she's 46) and all the nerves and questions that comes with- Do they see themselves getting married? Having kids? Giving up their career?

Many twists and turns to this casual affair and how friends and family can make something casual become something messy pretty quickly.

4 🌶 Although it's not BDSM, it does get spicy and hot with the couple exploring what they reach like and trying their old tricks with new partners, as well a New tricks that have earth shattering results. And even among the intricate plot, there's still plenty to keep you satisfied.

I’m really enjoying this series - it’s not often that ‘later in life’ is done well. At least it is become a little more popular.

Now… onto this story in particular…
Mark - at the start of this, I liked him, but also did not like him. I know, it doesn’t make sense, but the whole ‘hook-up’, ‘dirty secret’ thing felt ick.
Then, towards the end - questioning whether he would pursue a relationship because he would not be able to have a bio child with her… 🙄 Big A-hole move right there.

However, Teresa is intensely private and has faced a significant fertility battle, so it does make things quite difficult.

This story (and series) really delves into some meaty issues - this one DV, infertility, societal standards etc.
Miscommunication does play a major role in this story. Chapter 27 hit hard for this - however, I’m glad that Mark did semi clear it up.

As always Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott are fantastic narrators, and make it truly a pleasure to listen to.

Mark and Teresa met on a hookup app and really mesh but Mark calls it off when he starts his campaign for County DA. Unfortunately their relationship is revealed and for damage control they have to lean into it and pretend to be engaged. While living together their fake engagement becomes more real and when the campaign ends they have to figure out what parts are still pretend.

Mark and Teresa are a fun couple, very independent mid 40s never married professionals. I think the ease of the transition to living together seems a little unrealistic but watching the relationship develop was a fun time. Starting them on a hookup app you can imagine how good the spice was and I love getting to see snippets of the characters in Ardor Creek that we’ve already met and this one had a sneak peek of a future book too. Awesome series!.
