Bestselling and award-winning author Lee Strobel interviews experts about the evidence for the afterlife and offers credible answers to the most provocative questions about what happens when we die, near-death experiences, heaven, and hell. We all want to know what awaits us on the other side of death, but is there any reliable evidence that there is life after death? Investigative author Lee Strobel offers a lively and compelling study into one of the most provocative topics of our day. Through fascinating conversations with respected scholars and experts--a neuroscientist from Cambridge University, a researcher who analyzed a thousand accounts of near-death experiences, and an atheist-turned-Christian-philosopher--Strobel offers compelling reasons for why death is not the end of our existence but a transition to an exciting world to come. Looking at biblical accounts, Strobel unfolds what awaits us after we take our last breath and answers questions With a balanced approach, Strobel examines the alternative of Hell and the logic of damnation, and gives a careful look at reincarnation, universalism, the exclusivity claims of Christ, and other issues related to the topic of life after death. With vulnerability, Strobel shares the experience of how he nearly died years ago and how the reality of death can shape our lives and faith. Follow Strobel on this journey of discovery of the entirely credible, believable, and exhilarating life to come.
Lee Patrick Strobel is an American Christian author and a former investigative journalist. He has written several books, including four that received ECPA Christian Book Awards (1994, 1999, 2001, 2005)[2] and a series which addresses challenges to the veracity of Christianity. He also hosted a television program called Faith Under Fire on PAX TV and runs a video apologetics web site.
One of the biggest questions that has plagued humanity for all of its existence is this: What happens after we die? Christianity offers hope for Christians by stating that there is a Heaven that we will go to before ultimately living forever on a redeemed and remade earth free from sin, suffering, and pain. But that sounds so far-fetched. Is there even any evidence that we live on after death?
Lee Strobel, in his typical journalistic style, tackles the topic in this book. As questions come up, he selects several key figures, giants in their various fields of study, and interviews them about the chosen topic. From near-death experiences (NDEs) to a discussion of hell and eternity, Strobel takes his usual tough-questions approach as he interviews the experts and tries to build a case for Heaven.
This book is excellent. It answers a lot of hard questions that I believe many people have about the afterlife. The Case for Heaven turns out to be very strong, from scriptural promises to scientific proofs and everything in between. His no-nonsense questions explore the issue from every angle, and it is easy to read and understand. I would recommend this book to anybody, Christian or not, who has questions about eternity and what awaits us on the other side of death’s veil.
I have been a firm believer in Jesus since fifth grade. At that time, I read philosophers and compared belief systems (into my high school years) and decided that Christianity made the most sense and certainly led to a life I wanted to live.
Not until recently have I realized I know so little about heaven. One of my sisters actually said heaven sounded boring--just standing around and worshipping all the time. She wanted to enjoy life now (mind you, she is a Christian and faithfully attends church). But, somehow, our churches aren't doing a good job of conveying how wonderful heaven must be.
This book is a must read--whether you are a believer or not (and I think you might be swayed toward yes after reading) because so much is put into perspective. This struggle, this pain, is like a grain of sand. Alleluia!
4.5 stars ⭐️ I found this subject fascinating, and I can see myself rereading this book in the future. Chapter three explores near-death experiences, and chapter nine talks about reincarnation.
This subject is one that involves a lot of study and investigation. So do not expect to find everything in this book.
However, if you are new to this topic or want a refresher on it, then this book is great. Lee writes in an interview style that keeps you captivated as he discusses challenging topics.
So though this book doesn't cover everything about this topic of NDE's, consciousness, and souls. It is a great resource with plenty of references and extra sources to get you started in this study, or to just get you familiar with this topic.
The author and the [devoutly Christian] SMEs he interviews blindly believe every word of the Bible while smugly scoffing away any other soul/afterlife ideas (such as reincarnation) as ludicrous and illogical. You probably need to be a Christian to enjoy this book, which I am not. I'm not even sure why I bothered with this. Just curious, in guess. But this book did not convince me even for a moment of the existence of heaven.
This was an excellent book to listen to. It really gave me peace about a difficult subject. Dying and life after death. What testimonies. A wonderful book to listen to.
What I especially loved about this book was how Strobel addressed the question of marriage, heaven, and the resurrection. While we cannot expect life to always go the way we want with marriage, and we know God works through divorce, it was nice to hear that Jesus and scripture holds the ideal of staying married to your original spouse if at all possible. I’ve always thought that if my wife were to die before me, I would choose to remain celebrate for the rest of my life. I’m hoping I don’t have to make that choice, but I will if I must. I know there are sometimes good reasons for remarriage, but I’ve always found that hard when I consider how deeply I love my wife. So it was nice to see this topic addressed differently for a change. Thank you!
The Case for Heaven by Lee Strobel is an interesting and challenging book about the afterlife and what happens when we die. Its style is midway between a devotional and an academic book. It is the type of book you have to take your time reading, thinking about, and digesting. The book is set out as a series of interviews; with people, ranging from scientists to philosophers and theologians. It covers topics such as near-death experiences, Heaven, Hell and reincarnation. I found it thought-provoking, challenging and encouraging.
Jesus is the answer to the insanity of this world! Our hope is truly in Him. God has made a way for us through His son Jesus Christ to be redeemed and made whole. We can live in this world with confidence knowing a new heaven and a new earth await us.
This was a great book that was packed full of information related to Heaven and gives you what others may believe that is different than your beliefs. It gave Bible reference where you can do your own study.
This is a very good book, well written, very well researched and sourced. I have not read any other books by Lee Strobel, although several on on my "want to read" list. If this is a representative sample of how he puts his books together< I will have to more diligently move his others up my list. While I'm not sure he will convict those who have a truly hardened heart regarding Christ, heaven and the afterlife, he certainly makes a strong case and leaves the reader with plenty of other good resources to look to for answers and understanding. This book is written based on interviews Strobel conducted with other authors and Christian scholars, many who came to faith later in life or after some life altering event. I find that a very interesting perspective to study from since, as a life long believer, I have never held an agnostic or atheistic viewpoint and don't understand those who do. There is a great deal of evidence presented, in a well reasoned manner. I would highly recommend this book.
Enjoyed this book. I felt like it gave a very comprehensive look at the topic and really walked you through the process of finding truth, all the way to the reality of what the Christian heaven will look like. A real curveball to all of the books I have read this year so far.
What an inspiring and hope-filled book this is. I’ve been a Christian since I was a teenager and have always believed in Heaven. This book has inspired me to shout the joy of Jesus’ amazing grace and the promise of eternal life with Him!
I listened to this book on audio and was totally awed at the knowledge, experience, and expertise of the vast number of experts that Lee Strobel interviewed. It was a very encouraging book!!!
Very eye opening and filled me with the hope and anticipation of life in heaven. I highly recommend this if you are unsure of what exactly we're looking forward to in heaven one day.
A book that gives incite to one of the biggest questions that all humanity has. Lee Strobel does an amazing job with interviewing scholars and allowing us, the reader, to be a part of the investigation. From the topics of Near Death Experiences (NDEs) to reincarnation, Lee Strobel goes over a lot that helps/reassures us that death is not the end.
Strobel’s book is easy to read and brings together so many resources, facts, and stories. While I got the book to glean more information on Heaven, I enjoyed expanding my knowledge in the differing views of Hell and the history of the belief in reincarnation. His chapter on near death experiences (in proof of the soul) changed my thinking on that aspect of the afterlife. This is a great read that will certainly help you learn and get you to thinking, and yet yes kept it easy to digest.
Lee’s investigative approach with interviews with leading experts from around the world help answer many of the questions you might have about heaven and the afterlife. Ultimately it is up to you to decide with free will what you want to do with the evidence. For me, I choose Jesus and an eternal life in heaven.
I’m a firm believer Heaven is real, so I was excited to dive into this one. It ended up being more thought-provoking than I anticipated. There were some perspectives I hadn’t heard of before.
I just finished my first book of 2022. It didn't disappoint. In his inimitable style, Lee Strobel adds another book to the anthology of "Cases" he has explored. What I found most useful in this book about Heaven was his candid simple discussion of Hell which was refreshingly practical and useful while avoiding the sensational. This book is both direct and encouraging and asks questions we all wonder. I recommend it!
Examining the Fundamental Question Pascal’s wager logically, if perhaps cynically, concludes that we must live our lives in the belief that God exists. If we are wrong, we lose nothing of importance. If we are right, we gain everything: Heaven itself. If we take the other side of the wager and reject belief in God, we gain nothing of lasting importance if we are right, but lose everything if we are wrong. It is the ultimate no-brainer wager, but the catch is in sincerity of conviction. It’s a wager that each of us makes whether we recognize it or not.
As with his other “Case for” books, Lee Strobel takes on that most universal question that has shaped worldviews from Christianity to atheism: what happens when this present existence is terminated by every human’s fate, Death? Whether motivated by a belief in eternal rewards or punishment, howsoever they might be achieved, or a quest for immortality through a legacy of earthly achievements to be recalled by future generations, or an emphasis on delights in earthly existence either in the here and now or restored or extended through technology, everyone reflects this fundamental aspect of their worldview. Consciously or subconsciously, it is our driving force.
Using his signature journalistic technique of seeking out and interviewing experts, Strobel examines the nature of the soul and human consciousness, different belief systems, near-death experiences (NDEs), the very idea of what Heaven is like, the popular notion of universalism, and, importantly, the great taboo: Hell. Of course, as a convicted Christian apologist, he argues ultimately for the Christian worldview, but he does so by a fair examination of the alternatives. And his conclusions are comforting and reinforcing, pointing out that, in the Christian worldview God is scrupulously fair. The Christian worldview offers hope like none other.
It is true that in this earthly realm we can never know with certainty our fate. But our fate awaits us nonetheless. Shouldn’t we make a priority of considering and understanding our worldview among other worldviews, and live our lives deliberately as a reflection of what is most truthful? Shouldn’t our wager be based on sincerity of conviction? This book is a good way to help develop or reinforce the basis for our wager.
This is a thought-provoking read covering a multitude of topics involving life after death. While some were more interesting than others, that really is due to the reader than the author.
The topics of purgatory and reincarnation were fascinating to this reader as well as the provided rebuttals. If purgatory is correct than that means Jesus' death did not do it all, which is false. If reincarnation is correct than we shouldn't help people who are suffering so their suffering can make amends for them to get a better "life" next time, which is false.
An interesting look into all aspects of Heaven from an analytical journalistic perspective. Strobel asks a lot of common and unique interesting questions of the experts he interviews in this book. Some things still leave me pondering. But whatever Heaven will be like, be sure you know Who is the key to entering those gates. Our Savior Jesus Christ!
The Case for Heaven stepped into a realm that many theologians avoid. Lee Strobel steps into this book as he does with his other Case for books with his logical careful research and doesn’t avoid any sensitive areas that people have in the past given a wide berth. He explores both Christian beliefs and secular and lets the reader come to their own conclusions. In gray areas he gives the Biblical truths that are out there and what different theologians believe and then let’s the reader know that there will be many surprises in heaven. Hell is explored and myths destroyed that are floating around. His serious look at hell should make any nonbeliever do careful research into why they believe and encourage the believer to reach out to the lost. Strobel explored many beliefs today in alternative philosophies such as Karma and reincarnation and the pitfalls these beliefs have. After Death experiences were explored and validity given to some while others have been proven to be fabricated. Strobel encourages the believer and leads them down a path that strengthens their faith and testimony. When I think Strobel has written all the Case for books possible he comes out with another. This one is as valuable as all the others in growing us all up in our Christian faith.
Lee Strobel has done it again. As a person with an investigative mind his books always inform and affirm my world views. If you have lost loved ones this book can give you much comfort. I have a few friends I’ll recommend this book to.
