Neither Margaret nor Owen has any interest in getting married. But in the small Amish town of Birch Creek, where marriage is on everyone’s mind, their plans don’t stand a chance.
Margaret Yoder can’t seem to catch a break. Even though she’s dedicated to her Amish faith, her wild rumspringa won’t stay in the past, and her mother keeps pressuring her to get married. To placate her mother and get away from former “friends”, she decides to return to Birch Creek to visit family—and pretend to find a husband.
Like Margaret, Owen Bontrager isn’t looking for a spouse, something that’s hard to avoid in Birch Creek, where an ad for brides in the local paper has brought a swarm of single women to the thriving town. When he meets Margaret in an unexpected way, they discover they have more in common than they ever expected. In some ways, they are a perfect match.
Margaret struggles to keep her goal of avoiding romance in order to focus on being a faithful member of the Amish church, and it doesn’t help that she finds Owen intriguing. Knowing they don’t have a future together; she returns home and gives in to her mother’s insistence that she get married.
Can Margaret betray her feelings for Owen and become a dutiful daughter and wife to the man of her mother’s choosing? Or will Owen find a way to free Margaret of her past by giving her the future they both are surprised to find they desire?
“Fuller brings us compelling characters who stay in our hearts long after we’ve read the book. It’s always a treat to dive into one of her novels.” —Beth Wiseman, bestselling author
This is a Clean Amish Romance, and this is the second book in the Amish Mail-Order Bride series. I have read and review the first book in this book series. I have to say I liked this a lot more then the first book in this series. The characters in this book I connected to, and I loved them so much more. I loved all the plant talk in this book. I also love that both of the characters really did not see they where feeling in love, and they did not see they loved each other. I found this book cute and fun to read. I got pulled into this book so quickly, and I did not want to put it down. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zondervan) or author (Kathleen Fuller) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Love, hope, forgiveness and humor among many other things that are added to make this book a sweet and fun book to read. Lose yourself in one afternoon/evening of your desire and come to Birch Creek to visit with old friends and new friends. You'll not want to leave until the last chapter is read! Excellent writing is portrayed in the best possible way. With in depth and realistic characters that you are sure to love! I loved meeting Margaret and Owen but sometimes I really wanted to knock their heads together at times and others well let's just say they made me laugh out right at other times. I highly recommend this enjoyable book! It's a hard to put down book! My thanks for a copy of the book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Matched and Married is the second book in the Amish Mail-Order Bride series by Kathleen Fuller. Before I read this book today, I hadn't read an Amish book of hers in several years. The past several years she has had a contemporary fiction series which I have been reading. Margaret Yoder is a young Amish woman ready to settle down after a rather wild rumspringa, running around period the Amish do before deciding if they want to join the church. Her past won't stay in the past though, it shows up on her doorstep in the form of former Englisher friends who want her to continue the behavior she has put behind her. With three daughters and Maragret the last, her mother just wants her to get married. Everything Maragret does seems to be met with her mother's disapproval. Margaret has no intentions of getting married anytime soon though. Going to Birch Creek to visit family will be the perfect escape from old temptations and to appease her mother she'll pretend to look for a husband. Her aunt whom she is staying with understands her and enjoys her visit though she's not looking for a husband. Meeting a local in Birch Creek, Owen Bontrager while out foraging for herbs for the natural medicines she makes Margaret is pleased to find out he's not looking for a spouse either. Knowing that she won't be in Birch Creek long she tries hard to concentrate on being a strong Amish church member but the more she's around Own the more intriguing she finds him. He's smart and they have interesting conversations which draws them closer. Knowing her mother wants her to return home soon to find a suitable match will she be able to go home and just forget about Owen and the awakening her heart has had towards love? I've always enjoyed this author's series and this one too, though I don't feel the mother should have been so domineering.
Pub Date 07 Sep 2021 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
It's always fun when the main character has some quirks, and Ezra is definitely unique. He's a workaholic on his father's farm, so much so that his family forces him to take a vacation from chores. He and Margaret meet while he is practicing foraging in the woods like his grandfather did, and an unlikely friendship blossoms... somewhat awkwardly. I enjoyed their mishaps, banter, and growing feelings as they continue to meet during Ezra's sabbatical. The concept of someone with a wonderful personality growing more attractive as you get to know them is one that Margaret discovers, and helps her realize what she really wants in her life. I really enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to the next in the series!

This sweet Amish romance by Kathleen Fuller is the second in her series, Amish Mail-Order Brides.
This book centers around the characters of Margaret and Owen. Marriage at an early age is normal and somewhat expected in the Amish culture, however, both are in their 20’s and have no desire for relationships at this time, no matter how adamant their mothers seem to be.
Margaret decides to travel to Birch Creek to visit her aunt and while there she meets Owen. While their friendship develops, they make it clear to each other that they are not in the market for a spouse. As friendship and circumstances deepen, how will they handle this?
This is a delightful book that you will not want to put down until it is completed. I received a complimentary copy of the book from Zondervan and NetGalley and the opinions expressed are my own.
I love that this continues the story of so many different Amish "friends" that I have read about in previous books by the author. I really enjoyed the characters of Owen and Margaret and enjoyed how their friendship flourished as they foraged for herbs and food in the forest. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens to the characters. Birch Creek seems like such a lovely place and Freemont and Mary are such wonderful characters as well.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
I have really enjoyed this series. It is only the 2nd book but it was a spin off of another series. You get the feeling of being part of a community and learn something about yourself along the way.
It is a sweet romance of the Amish Mail order bride series of an ad that was run in the Birch Creek Community. The add was inviting other single women from other communities to Birch Creek where there was an abundance of single Amish men. No one knows who set up the ad but there are some clues. The people of the Birch Creek are endearing. Margaret Yoder has seen the ad and sees it has an opportunity to start a new leaf. She has family living there and now living at home only brings her shame. She had made a commitment to her community but before that she dabbed into the English life style more and found it to be superficial. She learned how men found her attractive and the shame of her own desires left her feeling a bit empty. Going to Birch Creek was not to find a husband but to find God's acceptance. She met Aaron and since both her and Aaron were not looking for marriage, they had found a friendship that ran deep. They both discovered their weakness and a strength in God and love.
I appreciated how this dealt with shame. Shame that leads to despair can be very damaging and it can a big hole that we can dig ourselves into. There were several other characters that were dealing with shame for different reasons however, it is a learning experience that we can have to know God in a more deeper and personal way. It is important to deal with shame in healthy way. I feel that shame can be used to bring us to the Lord but it also can lead us away. I loved the story, the community, and how God is center!
A special thank you to Zondervan and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I enjoyed this fun Amish story of two people who didn’t plan on falling in love with each other! Matched and Married is the second book in the Amish Mail-Order Bride series and it is also connected to other books that have taken place in Birch Creek. If you haven’t read any of the other stories, you should still be able to enjoy this one. However, if you have read other books set in Birch Creek, you will probably have a lot of fun seeing how previous characters are doing.
In this story, Margaret took the opportunity to escape from a very controlling and unpleasant mother, whom she was never able to please, by visiting her aunt and uncle in Birch Creek. It was nice to see that Margaret was valued for the person she was by this part of the family.
I really enjoyed the peek into Owen’s home life, with all of the craziness of a large household. It was interesting to watch as Owen was forced into a vacation by his family in order to stem some of his workaholic tendencies.
I liked the way the relationship developed between Owen and Margaret. It really wasn’t something that either of them saw coming. I still need to go back and read the book that comes right before this one. I have enjoyed that there are so many books set in the Birch Creek community.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Return to Birch Creek with this charming Amish romance.
Margaret plans to go to Birch Creek to get away from her mother's constant disapproval and the temptations that she left behind when she joined the church. She isn't looking for a husband, but rather a respite.
Workaholic Owen Bontrager loves to work his family's farm, enjoying the constant battle to stay one step ahead of what needs to be done. He is at a loss when his family forces him to take a break from his labors, the last thing he is looking for is marriage, but he strikes up a friendship with Margaret over their shared love of herbs and plants.
A light-hearted romance, filled with misunderstanding and charming characters. I also liked that we got to follow up with a previous characters, and meet new faces as well. This was a fast read, feel-good, predictable but not in a bad way, as I enjoy a sweet Amish romance every now and then. I liked that Owen is a hardworker, though he struggled with balance. It was sweet how he and Margaret brought out the best in each other.
Overall, an enjoyable read. I'll definitely be picking up Katherine's story when it comes out!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This continues with the background story of Lester, and it begins the story of Margaret and Owen. Lester's story won't be concluded until the next book. His story is a sad one, but I hope it ends with redemption and forgiveness. Margaret and Owen are struggling. Each one is dealing with family problems. Margaret's troubles are tougher than Owen's. His are of his own making. Each finds peace in the end.
4 1/2 stars. Another home run for Kathleen. I love how she always throws a unique little twist into her plots. This is no exception. When Owen is forced to take a vacation from the farm/family work by his parents, he doesn’t see what is coming. Margaret is being pushed out of the nest by her mother. She is told to find a husband, even though she has no interest in becoming a wife and mother. She takes a trip to see her aunt on the pretext of husband hunting. When Owen and Margaret meet, they both tell each other they have no interest in finding spouses and romantic interests at all. But when life seems to push them into situations, they find they have quite a bit in common. Then Margaret’s mother calls her to demand she return home to meet another prospective husband. This is the second in this series, but there are very little ties between the first and second book. I was hoping for a few things from book one to carry over, but it didn’t happen. I read this from the library.
I thoroughly enjoyed Matched and Married. Author Kathleen Fuller writes a charming, fun story that kept me turning the pages. With well developed characters and a great setting it’s easy to see why she is one of the premier authors of Amish fiction.
Quirky characters who are sure they never want to get married, foraging in the woods, and running from pushy parents are all wrapped up in one delightful story. Include self-forgiveness and a brides wanted ad, and you have a story with something for everyone. If you enjoy Amish fiction this is a must read!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Matched and Married by Kathleen Fuller is the second book of this series. It can easily be read as a standalone, though. I have not read the first story and I was not lost at all.
I have to admit that I struggled a bit with this story. Well, mostly, I had trouble connecting with Margaret. Basically, for the first half of the story, she’s all about how a person looks on the outside, not who they are on the inside. And as far as Owen was concerned, she was very negative. While I know that she changes, I felt like it was just a bit much and it made me dislike her. I did enjoy the second part of the story more when Margaret and Owen strike up their friendship and she begins to change.
This is a quick sweet read and I would say if you like Amish stories, give this one a try!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Margaret Yoder knows that the only way she can please her mother is by getting married. She pretends to go on a husband hunt in Birch Creek to get away for a while. She keeps running into Owen who may just challenge her desire to remain single. I enjoyed watching Margaret and Owen interact. They have some unique interests and a funny, honest rapport. It's refreshing and different from what they've enjoyed with others in the past.
Margaret and Owen both have issues they need help with. It's easy to relate to them. They felt authentic and real. It was sweet seeing them encourage each other.
I enjoyed this book and I'd recommend it. It's a light, easy read. Thank you to Zondervan for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Matched and Married is the second amazing story written by Kathleen Fuller in her series, The Amish Mail-Order Brides. The author has done a great job developing the characters for this story. When Margaret Yoder's mother continues to push her to get married she decides to visit her aunt in another community under the plan that she was looking for a husband. When she meets Owen Bontrager she finds him intriguing but as a friend. Owen isn't looking for a spouse either and when they decide to spend time together hunting plants they also make a pact for no romance. When Margaret is forced to return home she discovers her mother has made arrangements for her to meet a young man from a different state. This is when Margaret decided to confront her father and finds that things aren't what she thought they were. I enjoyed this story and the characters as well.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
Matched and Married by Kathleen Fuller is the 2nd An Amish Mail Order Bride Novel. It can be read as a standalone in case you have not indulged in A Double Dose of Love. I thought Matched and Married was well-written with steady pacing. It contains realistic characters who have normal fears, concerns, joys, and hopes. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know Margaret Yoder and Owen Bontrager. We get to see their friendship develop over their shared love of foraging and herbal medicine. I did find Margaret a bit negative during the first half of the book. I was baffled why Margaret felt it was wrong to use or investigate the abandoned shed in the woods. It was obvious it had not been used in some time. Owen has some great ideas for the family farm. That type of out of the box thinking is what is needed if the farm is to survive. Margaret and Owen will need to do soul searching and prayer before a resolution is achieved. There was a side story focusing on Rhoda Troyer that was quite interesting. She is lonely with her children married and her husband gone. Emmanuel, Rhoda’s husband, took off years ago after his crimes were uncovered. She has not seen or heard from him since then. Should Rhoda continue to live in limbo? The ending will leave you smiling. It was great to catch up with the characters from A Double Dose of Love. Love, hope, forgiveness, and the importance of being yourself (comfortable in your own skin) are featured in Matched and Married. I am looking forward to reading Love in Plain Sight. Matched and Married is a sweet Amish tale with a workaholic farmer, a shameful secret, an attentive aunt, a benevolent bishop, a fetching Englisher, adamant mother, and a wondering Amish woman.
Matched and Married is a very well written Amish romance. This book has a good plot with well developed characters. Fans of Amish romance will enjoy this book. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
Matched and Married by Kathleen Fuller is a wonderful 5-star story. Release day is September 7, 2021.
Kathleen allows us to revisit the small Amish town of Birch Creek, the town that published an ad for brides.
Margaret Yoder has no interest in marriage, but she tells her mother that she will go to Birch Creek in order to find a husband. Really, she just wants to get away from her domineering mother and have a chance to visit family an friends.
Owen Bontrager is workaholic on his farm. He also has no interest in marriage. When the two meet, they understand each other and agree to just be friends. The question is can they both remember their original plan for friendship.
You will hold this story close to your heart long after you finish the story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I have to say, up front, that I am not a big Amish fan and don't really read many Amish books. I had the opportunity to read and review this story so I decided to try it. I really enjoyed the characters and found them to be quite realistic and entertaining. Margaret didn't seem very Amish to be in the first part of the book. I was a little confused! She seemed quite worldly but over the course of the story, she changed quite a bit and I was delighted to watch her transformation as she moved closer to God. She had overcome a lot. Her mother, however, was very disappointing to me. Owen, on the other hand, I connected with immediately! I liked his character and personality. The banter between Margaret and Owen was very enjoyable! It was fun that neither one wanted to get married and they worked hard on their friendship. I would recommend this book!
Matched and Married, the second book of the Amish Mail Order Bride series, is another fun yet touching read from one of my favorite “go-to” authors for Amish fiction. This is a well-written narrative including both laugh-out-loud and somber, contemplative moments. Delightful characters, a smoothly flowing plot, sweet romance, and inspiring spiritual truths combine to make an entertaining, enjoyable read. This book works as a stand-alone, but I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had read the Amish of Birch Creek series first to have been more familiar with the carry over characters and events referenced in this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Kathleen Fuller's Birch Creek books have been a joy to read! Matched and Married continues that streak.
Margaret Yoder is sent to her aunt's home in Birch Creek after her mother sees an ad that the young men of the town are looking for brides. Margaret has no intention of marrying just because her mother thinks she needs to. After her wild rumspringa, her only desire is to settle into the Amish life she's chosen and prove to her parents that she is NOT that wild 16-year-old anymore. Margaret knows she has an uphill struggle, especially with her rule-following mother, so she obeys the dictate handed to her and heads for Birch Creek. She's met at the bus depot by her aunt's neighbor, Owen Bontrager and she's not impressed. He's too skinny, his teeth aren't straight, and he's not very sociable. If he's one of the bachelors this town is offering for marriage, she's sure her heart is in no danger while she's here!
Owen Bontrager remembers what it was like to be hungry all the time. Until their large family moved to Birch Creek, hunger was a constant companion. Their new farm's fertile soil changed that, and Owen's hard work of running the operation can take much of the credit. However, working from sun-up to sundown 24/6 (with no work on Sundays, only THINKING about work) hasn't left Owen any time to do anything else. Yes, he's a workaholic, but no one else in the family - including his father - seems to care as much about the farm as he does. Is it so wrong to want to make sure his family is never hungry again?
On the surface, the only thing Margaret and Owen have in common is their Amish faith. Margaret is a beauty, and is used to having men tell her so. Owen's feet are firmly planted in the dirt of the family farm, and he's never had a girlfriend to know how to react to a woman. When his father forces him to take a week off from ALL of his farm work, Owen discovers that: 1. He needs to find a hobby. 2. He's more tired than he thought. and 3. Maybe he is in the market for a girlfriend. Neither Owen nor Margaret is looking to get married, but can they still be friends who explore the countryside together?
This series started with some pretty sober books, but now that the Bontrager family is the focus, their lighthearted approach to life shines through. I also enjoyed "catching up" with characters from previous stories. That's always part of the beauty of reading a whole series of books!
Readers who love Amish romance will love Matched and Married. You'll be pulling for Margaret by the end (even though she starts out a little spoiled at the beginning, she absolutely redeems herself!) And Owen will also step off the page and into your heart. I definitely recommend this one!
Margaret Yoder is sent to visit her Aunt in another town because her mother has heard through the grapevine that there are more eligible men than women in that town. Margaret's mother is determined to get Margaret married and gone so she won't have to worry about her. Margaret really isn't in the market but she will do anything to get away from her mother's stifling presence. She loves it at her Aunt's and goes about enjoying family and friends. Margaret meets up with Ezra Bontrager almost immediately and they both assure each other they are not in the market so they determine they will be friends and enjoy each others company since they have common interests. Predictably they both fall for each other but think the other one still isn't serious. Much angst and soul-searching occur before it is all resolved. This was a fun book with delightful characters.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion
It draaaaaaged. I skipped. Not one of her best books. Characters seemed too simple. Intensity of the the relationship given the timeline was unbelievable, The climax felt like a bump in the road. You weren’t sure if you had even reached it, bc there wasn’t much to it.
What a great treat to be back in Birch Creek Ohio and with so many characters that I have come to care for. We are updated on their lives and your in for a treat with a new visiting member, and one that is not interested in finding a spouse, and definitely not a mail order bride.
While Margaret is trying to obey her mother, she doesn't want to get married, but the author puts Owen Bontrager in her path. A young man that doesn't know how to stop working, and we are along with his family to see how his family deals with the problem they are seeing.
Not only does this pair not want to get married, you will soon wonder if they will survive to the end?
I love that their is another book coming, I am looking forward to it!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.
MATCHED AND MARRIED by Kathleen Fuller is the second book in An Amish Mail-Order Bride series. It’s the captivating story of Margaret Yoder and Owen Bontrager. An unexpected meeting, finding that they have lots in common and spending time together while both are on a “vacation” all might add up to more than the friendship they agreed upon.
Margaret is the youngest of the three sisters and the only one not married. She’s feeling pressure from her mamm to find a husband. At the same time, she’s feeling draw back to the Englisch friends and their ways she experienced during her rumspringa. In order to fight off both, she decides to go visit her Aenti Mary in Birch Creek, where she’s always felt welcomed. Although definitely not looking for a husband, she can “pretend” to be. Her mamm welcomes the idea thinking she will have another batch of men to pick from.
Owen and his family knew some rough times when they lived in Fredericktown. Now living in Birch Creek with his daed and mamm and his three brothers – Elam, 8, and the twins Moses and Mahlon, 11 - where the soil was good and times were better, Owen doesn’t mind the hard work to put food on the table and a few coins into the family funds. Happy with his life, he’s definitely not looking for a wife. Although after an ad placed in the local paper about the area needing brides for the lonely men in the area, the town has become run over with women looking for a husband. He’s had no interest and luckily has been able to avoid the man hunt for a husband. All he needs is the farm, his family and his faith!
Working way too hard with no time for relaxation or fun, his daed decided Owen needs on a week vacation, or staycation as it was, with no work to be done by him at all. Margaret agreed and told him she would help him to destress if he was willing. Through her persuasion, he realized he’d been missing the fun in life. While “satisfied from work, stability through his faith and family, and a secure future in front of him”, where was the fun? Can he find it with Margaret’s help?
Finding comforting friendship in each other’s company, each against their better judgement began to have thoughts of possibly more than friendship. That definitely had the possibility of messing up their new friendship and breaking their agreement. With no husband prospects in Birch Creek and at the strict request of her mamm to come home, Margaret has no choice but to go home to Salt Creek. Will Owen let her go? If she goes, Margaret knows that she will leave her heart in Birch Creek. Can she forget those feelings and marry the man her mamm has arranged for her to meet and marry? When Owen doesn’t stop her from returning home, can he live with that decision? Will learning about her past mistakes change how Owen feels about her? When Owen doesn’t tell Margaret that she’s pretty, will it mean more to her than any other words he might say?
MATCHED AND MARRIED is an exceptional story of hope, friendly banter, learning to leave the past behind, following your heart, friendship, love, being true to oneself and family. Kathleen Fuller wraps it all in wonderful thread of faith while making the characters believable and enduring. Although part of a series MATCHED AND MARRIED can most definitely be read as a standalone book. I highly recommend MATCHED AND MARRIED to anyone and everyone giving it my FIVE STARS! You won’t be able to put this book down once you start reading it as you strive to see what becomes of Margaret and Owen.
I receive a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own. #MatchedAndMarried #AnAmishMailOrderBride #KathleenFuller #AmishRomance
Matched and Married by Kathleen Fuller is a sweet Amish romance with charming characters. Although this newest release is the second book in the Amish Mail-Order Bride series, it can be read as a standalone.
Margaret Yoder continues to be tempted by the Englisch friends she made during her Rumspringa. She also continues to be at loggerheads with her mother who thinks her youngest daughter can do nothing right. Margaret is spirited and unable to conform to her mother’s rigid need to control everything. She has no desire to marry but when ordered to begin looking for a husband, Margaret returns to Birch Creek, OH to stay with her beloved Aenti Mary and Onkle Freemont and help them with their harvest. She is a hard worker but she also has plenty of free time. Margaret spends time exploring the nearby woods where she searches for flowers. She has renewed interest in herbal treatments after crossing paths with Owen Bontrager who is on a forced vacation. The two become good friends after agreeing neither is planning to marry but will love find them when they’re not looking?
After her Rumspringa, Margaret decided to fully commit to being Amish. But she discovered that leaving behind parts of Englisch life is easier said than done. She is determined to live up to her decision, but the strife between her and her mother is hurtful and troubling. Margaret is nothing like her mother or her sisters so she always feels like a failure. The opportunity to visit her Aenti Mary is just what she needs to escape from her mother’s disappointment.
Owen works on his family’s farm and he puts in long hours ensuring they are successful. He works longer than anyone and he has exacting standards for how things are to be done. Owen is very frustrated by his father’s edict to take a week off from work. When boredom sets in, he begins reading his grandfather's books.
Owen and Margaret’s friendship is based on their mutual interests but it does not take long for their feelings for each other to deepen. However, neither of them wants to break their agreement to be friends only. What will they do when Margaret acquiesces to her mother’s unexpected demand?
Matched and Married is a heartwarming romance with a delightful cast of characters. Owen and Margaret have strong personalities and they a perfect match, but will they give in to their growing feelings for each other? In addition to their romance, another member of their community is trying to move on from her husband’s desertion but not knowing if he will ever return complicates her life. With an engaging storyline, relatable characters and realistic issues to overcome, Kathleen Fuller’s latest addition to the Amish Mail-Order Bride series is sure to be a hit with readers.
Birch Creek....what a wonderful place to spend some time to find out where your life is going....or so Margaret Yoder thought! Especially since her mother seems determined to get her out of the house by marrying her off!! NOT Margaret's idea of a good lifetime plan! But she goes to stay with her Aunt Mary and Uncle Freemont as a dutiful daughter would.....especially a daughter who went above and beyond in her rumspringa and is still trying to get past those years and deeds.
As life would have it, Margaret meets Owen Bontrager.....a hard working son of a farmer. Actually, too hard working and as a result, Owen has been exiled to a 2 week vacation where he is forbidden to do ANY work.....what's a fella to do??!!
Margaret has no desire to marry and makes that fact known. However, she is delving into medicinal herbs and flowers......which is where she meets up with Owen. You know what they say about the word "NEVER".....well, Margaret may have to eat her words. Afraid that her reputation, from her running around with the English, will follow her to Birch Creek, Margaret treads lightly, though strongly.
Ever persistent Owen, keeps on chipping away at Margaret's tough exterior.....but, will he be able to get under that tough bark? Will Margaret be able to let the past be the past and move on or will it haunt her days, for the future?
Great read by Kathleen Fuller and it will fill these fall evenings with laughter, smiles and enjoyment, so pull up a comfy chair, a warm blanket and good drink and escape to Birch Creek with Margaret and Owen. You'll be surprised a what you find!!
I was given an advanced copy by the publisher, Zondervan and Netgalley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. The opinions written here are my own.
