Sarah
I was always the curvy nerd in high school. The one with the big plaid shirts, glasses and sketchpad. But now that I'm in college, I've changed my look and am ready to go out into the world as the new me. But will my heart be able to trust the hot football player that takes notice?
Hunter
I'm tired of all the same girls throwing themselves at me just because I'm a football player. I want someone real, and I've found that in Sarah. She's my curvy obsession. I want to make her mine, but will she be able to see past all the hype and love me for who I am?
This is a guaranteed HEA, steamy and sweet, short story romance between a shy curvy college girl and the hot jock alpha male that makes her his forever.
(This was previously published as "Meant to Be" by Elsa Rain)
Hunter is a hot football player. Every girl wants hunters attention. But hunter only has eyes for Sarah. Sarah was a wallflower in high school. Very shy and not too many friends. Now she's has changed her look and hunter likes her. The minute their eyes meet they have a connection
Love the plot and love interest... just find it a little cringe worthy! Hunter needs to man up a little bit... his description does not fit his attitude.
Some things I liked, but overall, there wasn't that spark to really push it up. Still, it's not a bad short story read - a lunchtime sort of escape - but just OK.
Standard nerd-jock romance with Sarah (h) and Hunter (H) as leads. A few minor details make it a little unique, but for the most part, it's pretty straightforward.
Both of the leads are likable, but a little flat. I did like that Hunter's not a manwhore (common in this trope). Kinda rare that the H is also a virgin. I enjoyed that he was shy and awkward too, instead of the usual cocky BMOC. And I liked the epilogue, how again it's not the stereotype for this trope (i.e. he goes to grad school instead of the NFL, no pregnancy or proposal, etc.).
The plot's a little flat too. The only real "drama" came at 88% of the way through the book and it was cleared up by 92%. Quick misunderstanding, cleared up by immediately talking about things.
I think it was the narrative style that didn't strike my fancy. It's lots of monologue, lots of description. I mean, the first 15% of the story is just Sarah monologuing, making sure we know just how much of a nerdy wallflower she is. Literally, no one else speaks until then! So, I guess it's a tell vs show sort of issue? I think that's part of why the characters felt a little flat too. Less development via banter or conversations with other characters.
Also in the 'writing style' column: really awkward closing sentence.
Not sure about the titles in this series. The edition I had was "Hunter Me," and it's followed by Nick Me. The guy's name, plus "me"? Just doesn't make sense to me.
A few editing errors ("Here's here" - that sort of thing).
Alternating 1st person POV - very train of thought narration. No OW drama, mild OM drama. No cheating or love triangles. Standard jock-nerd storyline, with a sweeter, more reserved H than usual. I know it's just a short story, so not tons of chances for development (plot or character), but the narrative style didn't help things. Just never really clicked with me. Still, quick and low angst read. HEA with epilogue, no cliffhangers.
Would I read more by this author? Why not. This and the second book in the series were both free on Kindle, and they are both lunchtime length. Not particular standout favorites, but not a bad escape break either.
In the first chapter I really thought this showed some promise. Wallflower curvy girl finding her strength and her way in the world, #realtalk (trigger warning, thoughts of suicide), and the tough relationship with her mom. I really liked the deep #realtalk with the hero, too. BUT......the dialogue between the two was way too naive/young/inexperienced for me. Plus, I couldn't feel any sparks between them.
DNF at 50% and for a book that is so freaking short it took me forever to get that far. Writing and dialogue were both just bad. Neither internal monologue sounded like a real person.
DNF- I didn't make it far into this one. It's supposed to be about a wallflower type person, but the h blames it on the choice of neighbors she made friends with when she first moved into her new, rich neighborhood. Her next door neighbor reached out first, and the h was happy with her until she saw she sat at the nerd/reject table at the new school.
Then she lamented that if her neighbor across the street, who happens to be super popular and actually bullies the h and her friends, but if she had made friends with her instead of the nerd neighbor then her life would be better. The same neighbors who complain that her junky car is bringing down property values and insist she not park it in the street. Yeah right. The bully across the street never would have attempted to speak to her, which she didn't when she moved in.
Then there is her transformation. She speaks about how poor her family is. But before going to college she gets her hair professionally done, gets a better looking wardrobe thanks to the personal shopper at a local store. I stopped when she said the words 'personal shopper'. When you are as low income as she claims, you don't shop at stores with personal shoppers. I hope it got better, but she was just too vapid for my tastes. She wasn't a wallflower in the sense that she was shy or awkward, she just had been done dirty by the world because the nerdy neighbor was nicer than the bitchy neighbor, so she was forced to be an 'outsider'.
The hot jock (Hunter) and the shy wallflower (Sarah) have chemistry class together. Actually, they have chemistry together, good chemistry. When a guy from her high school asks her out, Hunter rescues her, and they begin dating. There's not a lot of drama in this short book, just a really nice story about two young people finding their way to each other.

Although it has the dreaded miscommunication/misunderstanding third act, I liked the story. This happens a lot in romances but it seems more so in curvy girl/bbw romances.
The same thoughts were repeated in both the hero/heroine’s thoughts which seemed weird. It’s like she was making assumptions in her internal dialogue about why he did or say a certain thing and it would be answered in his internal dialogue. It only lasted in the beginning which I’m glad it did.
It was a cute short b read.... Hunter and Sarah are in collage together, they had a crush on each other for awhile but didn't do anything until Hunter friend hit on Sarah, then Hunter finally ask her out.... Ibfelt like the relationship was rushed.... I don't get why authors make the characters virgin all the time, like it's a crime to not be when you find your true love.... That and how they rushed the love to fast is why I gave this book three stars....
Book one in the A Hot Jock Novella series a well written story by an Author I have not read before, and it looks like this is her debut book. Hunter Mason and Sarah's story of two people who are thought to be different because of things they do. I enjoyed reading this college age romance. I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this quick story about Hunter and Sarah. They meet in college and she admires him from a distance since she's a wallflower and he's a footballer. Great HEA.

A lot was certainly packed into this short read. I like this book. Hunter was just your average guy, not a big ten collegiate athlete, Sarah was just your average girl. Together they were just too cute
I liked Hunter & Sarah's story. Good characters. I could relate to Sarah... This book was full of drama. And a new author for me. I received a free copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Well written story, it took me high and low with its twists and turns. I couldn’t have predicted. I loved the complexity of the characters. All the drama in this story will definitely keep you intrigued waiting to see what happens next.
This is a fairytale kind of romance; naive, not very realistic, but sweet. The writing is simplistic, there is little room for development of character, place, or anything else. That said, it’s an enjoyable lunchtime read so I recommend you give it a go.
Great short story. Would have liked to see it a bit longer with a few extra dates in there before the two were intimate. Great read though. Looking forward to more.
Steamy and sweet, short story romance between a shy curvy college girl and the hot jock alpha male. Hunter's and Sarah's story packs a lot into this short read, preconceived notions and a good enough college age gap romance. It is a sweet story of two people who are attracted to each other. It is like a high school romance but I set in college. Both Sarah and Hunter are aware of their responsibilities and want to do well and are more than what others perceive them to be. Once they are together, they both realize what they have is special and plan to keep it.
