Firefly Junction #10

A Crafty Killing

Rate this book
Sunni Taylor is looking forward to an easy and sweetheart filled month of February. After a few blissful months as lead reporter for the Junction Times, an unexpected shake-up at the newspaper leaves her reeling and frustrated. She finds herself once again having to cover mundane stories, like the Firefly Junction Craft Fair. She's not looking forward to endless paragraphs about quilts, pottery and crocheted potholders, but she needs the money to help reach her true goal of opening the Cider Ridge Inn for guests.

When one of the crafters is murdered, the craft fair takes a dark turn. Sunni finds herself in the middle of an investigation. It doesn't take long for Sunni to realize that there's more to the town's artists than clay, yarn and silk flowers.

London Lovett is at it again with “A Crafty Killing.” This time Sunni is preparing for work but her trusty brother and sister carpenters are acting suspiciously. How, when she get to the office she quickly understands why. It seems the paper she works for has a new owner and it is none other than Prudence Mortimer, the aunt of the carpenters as well as the woman who wanted to partner with Sunni in the inn business.

Not only is Prudence the new owner she plans to take an active role in the running of the paper. Her first order of business is stripping Sunni of her lead reporter role and replacing her with none other than her college writing competitor, Dave Crockett. Yep, I have to confess that every time I saw his name in the book I wanted to break out and start singing, “Davey, Davey Crockett, king of the wild frontier.” For those of you who are in your twenties and thirties you probably don’t know about the tv show from the 50’s.

Anyway, it seems Dave is also the new boyfriend of none other than Sunni’s older sister, Lana who is the happiest they have seen her in some time. Boy, the plot just gets better and better. After being assigned to cover a local craft fairs, Sunni inevitably discovers a murder victim and the chase is on. The question is who will get the scoop?

This was a fun installment in the series. It is clear Prudence and her need for retribution for Sunni not agreeing to go into business with her is going to be a real point of contention in future installments. It will also be interesting to see what interesting new events will be plot worthy with Dave in the story line. I just hope that our friendly ghost will take a more active role as well. This author and series should definitely go on your to read list as well as her Port Danby series.

I loved this 10th edition to Firefly Junction Cozy Mysteries. I have read them all and each one is fun to read and has a lot of angst between certain characters and love between others. This time around Sunni's sister Lana thinks she may have found 'the one'!

Unfortunately the newspaper Sunni works for and earned her way to top reporter has been sold to none other that Prudence! Prudence brings on a new top reporter, who just so happens to be none other than Lana's new beau!

Sunni has to cover the craft fair this time around, and unfortunately there is a series of murders. at the craft fair! In the meantime, Sunni realizes that Edward is melancholy and needs for her to spend time with him-without Jackson, his family member and Sunni's boyfriend.

This book is well written, as is the whole series. I gave this book 5 stars and recommend reading this series from the beginning to become acquainted with all the wonderful characters in this series, although it can be read as a stand alone!

I've enjoyed this series and I enjoyed this book, but I DO NOT think Sunni or Brady should trust Sunni's new co-worker IN THE SLIGHTEST. Mostly because I think him being where he was to help Sunni was a total fluke and he's not to be trusted. At all. Period. I don't care who he's dating, he's a tool.

So. The newspaper has a new owner and the new situation isn't good for Sunni's blood pressure. FOR REASONS. While she's doing her level best to be gracious about it all (including, but not limited to, that aforementioned coworker), things are in turmoil at work. Which is not ideal. In the least.

Throw in a surprise with the family, a murder at the local craft fair, and Sunni's newly demoted position and...well, like I said, this situation isn't doing much for Sunni's blood pressure. Fortunately for her, she still has Brady and the inn and one (slightly) arrogant ghost to keep her on the straight and narrow.

Like I said, I enjoyed the book, but I DO NOT trust a certain someone with the last name of Crockett. At all.

Enjoyed catching up with this cast of characters! My only, critic is I didn’t love the purdace and Dave story line from how it affected her work. She had fought for 9 book to truly be treated as the lead reporter she should have always been, and this book took it away from us. I disliked how the boss told her this in a staff meeting with so many others there. Also, I think she forgave Dave too easily at the end. If he was actually acknowledging how much work she has done here, he would have gave her the story about the murders and stuck up for her in the office.

GREAT story. Each book gets a little bit deeper into the characters stories. I don't want to put any spoilers in so I can't mention which characters but start with book 1 and go on from there. The author integrates the characters so well, even when she adds new ones. I can't wait to see where she takes Sunni, Jackson, Emily, Lana and raine. I may have spelled the last one wrong but you'll know her right away. Plus we have new people added so I want to see if they are keepers and how much involvement they will have in each story. On to number 11. Enjoy.

I can't believe this is book 10 already of this series! That being said, I loved everything about this book. The setting is fun, I really enjoyed the craft fair and the characters are well developed and interesting. I've been following Sunni and the gang since book 1 and even though I enjoy them all, Edward will always be my favorite. I received an ARC of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily providing a honest review.

I'm not happy with minimizing Sunni's job. It is dumbing the story down.

I haven’t read all of this series, but since I won this book in a drawing I read it. I liked it, as I did the ones I have read. Sunni has her share of setbacks, but she keeps going. Hopefully she’ll finally be able to leave the paper and open her inn.
