As a young girl living in New Zealand Stacy Gregg wanted to be two things when she grew up – a horse rider and a writer. She now considers herself very, very lucky to be both at once!

Becoming a writer was the easy part – all she needed was an exercise book and a pen. Stacy wrote loads of poetry and short stories at school and then became a journalist, writing features for magazines and newspapers and working as a fashion writer (v. glamorous and lots of fun!) before her first book in the Pony Club Secrets series was published in 2007.

This sweet book was sent to me for review and just like the last Stacy Gregg book I reviewed, it’s going straight to Evie’s bookshelf.
Eliza has moved from London to the countryside and hopes to begin horse riding lessons. But when her mum takes her to enquire, the stables are deserted and seem long neglected. When a door opens for Eliza that her mum thought was locked, she meets a girl in the stable who is wearing a very old-fashioned dress. The girl’s name is Olivia and when she explains why the stables are deserted, Eliza agrees to go on quite a big adventure.
This is the first book in a new series by Gregg and I can imagine Evie will be asking for the rest as they are published. A really lovely story with a good message and cute illustrations. Definitely recommended for the newly independent reader who loves pony stories.

Appropriate for: all ages!

My 6 year old daughter loved Spellbound Ponies and I enjoyed it a lot. Bad Bess was a fun character and my daughter learned that stealing is wrong. They do say some weird stuff, like Bess' catch phrase was "Stand and deliver." I wish there were more pictures, but the pictures it had were good.
