"This certainly is no conventional way to meet one who was said to be dead years ago."
Lady Rachel Goodwill is at last free from her husband's tyranny. His death liberates her, but her plans for starting a new quiet life are ruined when someone abducts her.
As the mask of the captor drops, Rachel comes face to face with the impossible. Someone who died years ago.
Edmund Blackheart, Viscount Cranley, is a broken man from his years on the battlefield. His only purpose now is to take revenge on the man who cost him his arm and betrayed their country.
When his nemesis dies, Edmund's hate remains very much alive. And there is one person left behind that can satisfy his thirst for vengeance; the traitor's widow.
Rachel never imagined that the man she once loved is alive. Much less to abduct her and demand she pays for her husband's crimes. She definitely did not expect to find him still so irresistible.
Trapped in a game of revenge and wills, they never expected that pain comes with a side of pleasure…
Hating her kept him alive, loving her set him free…

Great plot filled with action, intrigue, danger, betrayal and ultimately romance.
Lord Edmund Blackheart, Viscount Cranley, was betrayed by his friend while they were in service to the Crown. As punishment for Edmund's presumed crime of treason, his lower right arm was cut off. His shame is so great that he allows everyone to believe him dead, and becomes a spy for the Crown while hiding in his faraway countryside estate, dreaming of revenge. Year's later he learns that his nemesis has been beheaded for other treasonous crimes, but his widow still lives. His revenge is now turned on her. However, he doesn't realize that she's his lost love, Rachel Goodwill, now Countess of Loringham. No more spoilers, but you'll be riveted by this plot filled with action, intrigue, danger, betrayal and ultimately romance.
I enjoyed this story. There were some errors which should have been picked up by the proofreader but they did not really detract from the story. The main technical error was that Lord Edmund had lost his right arm. However, the cover picture clearly shows him with a good right arm. Rachel and Edmund had been close to a betrothal but Edmund went to war and Rachel married someone else. Her husband was cruel and was a dangerous man. He was regarded as a traitor to England. When he was executed, men came to look for Rachel believing that she was also guilty. They were led by Edmund. The story contains two abductions, an orphaned child, mentions of several murders and lots of distrust. However, despite all of that, Rachel and Edmund find a way to a family life.i liked the way that Rachel gained the trust of the young boy, Francis.
This is a sweet, second chance love story that includes themes of treason, revenge, disabilities, adoption, negative self-images, and adventure. It is a good story with a lot to unpack. Unfortunately There was, what I felt, a major portion of the story that abruptly resolved without explanation. It didn't impact the story's end though. There were several typos that disrupted the flow of my reading. Perhaps another proofreading would have cleaned that up. I received advanced reader copy in return for my honest review. I'm looking forward to book three.
This was a fast-paced, swoon-worthy read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story was original and exciting with characters that were realistic and likable. It is everything you could want in a delightful stroll through the pages of a historical romance and more!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Loftus Allen, the Duke of Loringham was dead executed for treason and his wife the Duchess, Lady Rachel Allen had been pardoned by the King. She was finally free of her husband but many people still believed the traitorous. She decided to go and visit her friend in Brighton when Lord Edmund Blackheart, the Viscount Cranley and his cohorts were going to kidnap her. Ella Edon has written an enjoyable book with a happily ever after ending and you should enjoy reading it. I highly recommend it…
The story was good. But the narrative of this story was actually quite boring for you and repeated throughout.Lots of mistakes too.But the story of The characters I liked.Sorry.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great drama and romance with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
