This is a Children's Book that I read to my twin boys. I have to say this is a cute a fun children's book to read. If you are looking for a book to get your kids outside this is the book. I love that this book teaches so many things, and it also teaches kids to slow down to really look at what is around them. I think the writing in this book really pulled my boys into the book, and I think it real pull most kids into this book. The pictures in this book is so cute and fun. I loved this book so much. This is a great book to read to your kids during summer time. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Ivy Kids) or author (Ranger Hamza) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I love to walk and so I just had to give this book a shot. What kind of things would they discuss on what you can do and discover on a walk?
Meet Ranger Hamza, he will be leading us through this book and through all the things we can do on a walk. We come past parks and beaches to streets at night and day. I loved that we didn’t just stay on the streets but went so many different places as well. Each page is about a different thing. On one page he recommends looking up, seeing clouds, birds, and more in the sky. On another he recommends the opposite. Look down. What do you see? I had fun seeing what was next on each page. There was nothing new for me. When I walk I already do most of these. Well, except the touching. I just don’t like touching things, unless I can clean my hands pretty soon afterwards.
But while none of these are new to me (even as a kid I looked all around me and dashed left and right to see everything, haha, hello ADHD), I am sure that many kids could use a reminder that a walk is not just walking, but also looking, imagining, having fun, collecting, and more.
The art was good and I really liked the cute style.
All in all, a fun book. Not sure if I recommend taking a book along for a walk, as I am sure the parents have to carry it in the end, or maybe the book gets forgotten in all the excitement, but I am sure this would be a nice prelude to a walk. Do a page per walk. Prepare for it. Maybe look on maps to see what is a fun route for that page.
This 32 picture book has it all! No matter where you live, Ranger Hamza is excited to show you and have you experience the seasons, colors, shapes, sounds, tastes, smells, opposites, numbers, letters, materials, clouds, and mobility, the list really goes on and on. Daytime finds and nighttime ones too, there are even informative science and nature facts. This book is perfect for curious toddlers to early elementary aged kids. Read it all at once or a page at a time, the book begs you to mimic what you've learned from the book when you are out running errands, at the park, or camping. Covering both city and nature environments, every kid should find something familiar and something more to discover in the world around them. The text dances around the pages, and kids are encouraged to remember what they can at the end. The diverse skin tones, the visible hearing aid and prosthetic leg really make this inclusive book a joy to read and imitate again and again.
This fab interactive book will make for great reading with young children just before a walk and then to use throughout the walk.
It promotes children to explore the environment around them, searching the details of their surroundings and learn. As the children explore and interact with the book each page asks the children if they can find something that is, for example, the same colour as the one that is identified on that page, so say ‘red’. It then goes on to name some objects that could be present which is of that colour like ‘red leaves, red flowers, red car, red door, etc’ which give them little prompts of what they may see in their environment.
This is a fab book that I think all children should have on their bookshelf, either at home or at their early years setting they attend. It promotes their understanding of the world, as well as most of the other 6 areas of learning.
As an early years educator, I think this book is a must have to support young children and a great way to promote exercise and getting outdoors!
** I received an advanced copy of this ebook to read and review. Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me this opportunity. **
An absolutely fantastic nature-based picture book that urges families outside to experience the world!
We received a free ecopy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Let's Go For A Walk is a fantastic interactive picture book that you can take with you on walks or hikes and read aloud to Littles to prompt them to use all of their senses to experience the world around them.
Each page poses questions that urge children to look for specific colors, shapes, and sizes, to touch and feel the textures of the natural world, to smell the scents of foods and flowers, to listen to the sounds of nature, and more.
If you're looking for a fun book with lots of simple nature-based activities and facts for the young years, this may be perfect for you! Not only does it focus on nature and immersing yourself in it, but it also includes educational suggestions to do on the go, such as finding the alphabet or numbers in your everyday surroundings, from street signs to billboards, and encourages learning in all its many forms.
The more time we spend with this wonderful picture book, the more we love it and the more we hope it gets into the hands of children around the world.
Excellent ideas! Every time one goes for a walk there are so many things to see. It doesn't matter if it is a parent or child, this book should come along to remind us of the many things there are to see, hear, smell, and feel by focusing on a few definitions each time. Like things that are red, or shapes, or thing that can be counted, and more. It reminds us to look up, down, and all around so we can enjoy the world outside in any season! And the illustrations are simply terrific! I requested and received a free temporary ebook from Quarto Publishing Group – Ivy Kids via NetGalley. Thank you!
Let's Go For a Walk is an enticing, gorgeous and absolutely terrific fun book for preschoolers! Your children will instantly be drawn into this exciting little world!. It's also a great reminder to grown-ups to respect a child's natural instinct to move slowly, interact, and observe, even the most smallest details in their environment.
Take this adorable book with it's vibrant illustrations along on a journey of exploration and interactive play rather in the country, in town, or at the seaside. It has wonderful suggestions for children to look for during their hike and certainly makes the walk more enjoyable, exciting and into a little adventure! It also offers fascinating little facts that will enchance a child's natural curiosity and are relateable to things they know. Such as: "Two together is called a pair" "How many pairs do you see?"
In order for children of this age to learn they must also practice recall and planning. This book allows naturally for this as you can review your little adventure with your child when you return home by looking at the book again and even plan your next outing for those inquisitive little minds! It naturally encourages getting outside and back to nature, which is proven to be beneficial and relaxing no matter your age!
This wonderful little book with it's joyful rhyming verse, dynamic text along with enchanting illustartions of children of many colors will become a favorite of your child and maybe even yourself!
Thank you to Net Galley, Ranger Hamza and the publisher for sharing this book with me in exchange for an honest review. #LetsGoForaWalk #NetGalley

This is a great book all about different things that can be discovered on a walk. It links to the cbeebies series 'Let's go for a walk and is written by the presenter Ranger Hamza.
The book visits the park, the beach and streets and towns (during day and night time ) There is so much detail and vocabulary in this book introduced in a fun and interesting way. The illustrations are vibrant and appealing to young children. Children are encouraged to look everywhere. One page is about looking up in the sky and the next is all about looking down below! There are questions throughout to encourage children to search their surroundings. What is the tallest thing you can see? Can you spot something that flies?
The book also helps children to explore their senses. What can you smell right now when you sniff the air? What sounds can you hear? There are also lots of examples for children to try and spot in their own surroundings.
The book goes on to look at shapes, numbers and letters in the environment. There is so much to learn! This would be a great book to have in an Early Years setting and could be dipped into to reinforce a local area, minibeast or senses topic. I can imagine reading a page and then going for a walk to explore that particular theme. It would also make a lovely addition to a school library or book corner. Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for this eARC. This book is out now!
This is a rhyming picture book for toddlers through kindergarten aged. This book encourages children to take a walk every day and to observe and look around at what they see. In this picture book we have a black man who is taking three children on a walk, the children are black, brown, and white skinned. The walks depict the countryside and different habitats from beach to lake to farms and to a busy city. All five senses are encouraged to be explored. There are some facts given as blurbs on the right side page such as sand is made up of fine pieces of rock or that wood for buildings comes from tree trunks. I applaud this book for encouraging children to go outside and go on a walk and to really look around at what they see. I like this book, rate rating four stars. To me it’s not one that I would want to read over and over so that’s why I’m not giving it five stars.
Kids are prompted to notice colors, shapes, textures, materials, and more as they explore their communities with encouragement from Ranger Hamza in this rhyming picture book sure to spark curiosity. When we as librarians say 'incidental representation matters,' this is the sort of book we mean. Written by a Sudanese-born Scottish wildlife photographer with illustrations featuring him, a sturdy Black man with knee-length locs, guiding three children, two of whom appear BIPOC, one with a visible hearing device while another has a prosthetic leg, with no mention of those details in the story. Let this book prompt you. Go outside! Explore! And understand that efforts like @pattygonia @outdooristoath @thenorthface Explore Council & @greeningyouth are doing important work to increase accessibility for ALL in outdoor communities.
Take a walk with Ranger Hamza, who celebrates ALL that nature has to offer and how to observe and listen to the natural world around you. This book is a lovely invitation to young children to step outdoors and fall in love with the outdoors. The narrative encourages children to use skills they already have while also challenging them to look further. Ranger Hamza teaches children about a variety of nature-based topics throughout the book but it's all age-appropriate and helps serve the overall narrative. The illustrations are bold and playful -- I think this book would be fantastic for the 3-5 year old age range.
**Note: I was given a review copy of this book by Quarto Kids. Opinions are my own.
Almost bordering on mindfulness, but thankfully not going the whole hog, this asks us to go for a walk, whether we're in the city or countryside, and see what we can see. Using some bursts into verse, very bright colours and some dynamic presentation of the text, we get prompts to check out the smells and colours along our way, as well as any pairs, man-made numbers and signs, and different textures en route. In demanding we look up and down, and consider the small as well as the large and obvious, this delays us, and makes the walk more interesting and engaging and something to inspire the inquisitive mind. Which is definitely a good thing.
I really liked this simple, but effective, book about all the things you can see, do and experience on a walk in your local area. It links to the CBeebies series Let's Go for a Walk and includes using most of the senses, basic literacy and numeracy skills and above all becoming more aware of the natural world around you. The illustrations are bright and attractive and work well with the text. I think it works well for the younger audience it's aimed at and will be a good book for generating ideas around interactive walks. My thanks to #NetGalley and Ivy Kids publishers for the ARC in return for an honest review.
The concept of this book is to take it for a walk with you, and use it suggestions and pages to discover things around you. I'm not sure how literal the author meant for that to be, but I really love that concept. However, it's a rather large book and a little bit awkward to reference if you're walking with little ones. Instead, we read it together at home and then left for our walk and read it again when we got home. This opened a lot of discussion!
I would love to see a companion item for this book in the form of a deck of cards. That way we could have something easy in our pocket with items to be on the look for.
This is a great children's book, which has lovely graphics and easy to read text, which my daughter and I enjoyed reading. The book shows you how to explore your surroundings when you go for a walk in the country, by the sea, or even in your town. Ranger Hamza will show you how to look around you and take in all the details surrounding you in nature, such as plants, trees, buildings, water, colours, shapes, smells and how things are tall, short, fuzzy, soft, smooth or rough, It will open your mind so that you can change the way you view things.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Ivy Kids through NetGalley. I love this interactive book. Hamza challenges younger readers to bring this book along when they take a walk outside. Each page spread offers a different type of object to look for. Informative text is slipped in as they answer questions and look around them. It also teaches them to be more observant and notice the details in the world they live in. Detailed illustrations offer examples to follow and leave room for readers to find their own objects no matter where they live and are walking.
What an adorable book! I love children's books that are interactive, and "Let's Go for a Walk" is a great interactive read! It makes you think and ask questions whether you're out on a walk or just going about your normal routine. I love the focus on nature and natural objects in the book. I recommend this book to any children who are naturally curious, love going on adventures, and love counting or pointing out colors of objects.
I received this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE the illustrations in this book. They are so bright and eye-catching and the flow of the words with them is amazing. I also love how this book encourages kids (and adults) to get out and explore and not to take our environment for granted.
Ranger Hamza takes three kids for a walk where they look for different things around them and just take in their surroundings with their senses. This book is meant to be read outside. You could do a program where you take kids on a nature or just regular outside walk and go through the book.
I thought this book was really cool. Especially, for a nature walk this book is something perfect to read before or after to engage children. I also love how it had an "I Spy" element to it. Also, it was diverse which was an added plus. Teaches children the value of nature.
