When the body of Inzamam Khan is dumped onto a busy Southampton street, it marks the fall of a dark empire.
Khan is a successful restaurateur, married to an equally successful and beautiful wife, with two loving teenage daughters.
He is also one of the country's biggest drug dealers who rules by fear and has a habit of making enemies on all sides. As the last week of his life and the events leading up to his death are replayed - there’s only one question to answer…
WHO KILLED KHAN ?
Khan is the eagerly awaited second crime novel from FIVE STAR author, Heath Gunn.
If you like fast paced crime fiction, with dark forces at play, you’ll love Khan!
He was born in Sheffield, grew up in Rotherham and left home at eighteen to join the Royal Navy, as a Helicopter Engineer. He has lived in Hampshire, along the South Coast ever since, as he loves being near the sea. Heath is the CEO of Hampshire based disability charity, Enham Trust; and the Lead Singer of Rapid Tranq, a rock covers band, which he has been doing since 2007. Alongside a varied and colourful career to date, Heath has written for years, producing stories of various lengths, poetry and picture book stories for young children.
This book I would view as a stand alone Khan is nasty, as a drug baron and all round crim it is no real surprise when he is discovered dead, the book then goes back over the previous 6 days and shows/tells what led to his demise, who, why, when and what and everything in between I couldn’t stand him or his narcissim but that was how it was meant to be, in no way could any reader have an inkling of liking him, he was portrayed brilliantly and the author really created a monster in his character There are many people who could have killed him and as the story progresses we meet these people and find out who did the deed Again the author has written a tense whodunit drama thriller this time with more than a touch of ‘gangland’ that kept me reading as I wanted to find out who the culprit was It’s a taut, realistic book that reads well, very engaging and reader friendly Looking forward to the next book in the D.I.Lomas series later this year
I really enjoyed this second book by Heath Gunn. The story races along and keeps you guessing. Engaging characters and a fast pace, with maybe the opening for a follow up... Hope so 😊
4.5💫 "Betrayal must be punished with suffering. It shows those who may consider doing the same in the future what the consequences of their actions will be. If, with this knowledge they choose to betray you anyway, then they have brought their fate on themselves." ••••• This is the second book in DI Lomas Baxter series by Heath Gunn. 𝙾𝚑 𝚖𝚢 𝙶𝙾𝙳!!!!!!! This book is a breakneck thriller that will literally blow your mind! The author has created one of the most magnificently set plot and character backgrounds that would leave you at the edge of your seat each time you get closer to the day of the murder. The thrill and adrenaline rush can be felt throughout. The author has done an incredible job in creating the most messed up characters with the power to take some of the most unexpected decisions. The plot is fascinating and draws you in from the start. The writing is highly interactive and inviting. I don't know how I've stopped myself from reading it at one stretch! This is that kinda crazy!! ••••• Even though, most of the characters are into the unethical world of drug dealing and stuff, you would feel for them, whenever they are up for taking decisions based upon their emotional vulnerabilities. Some of the characters, although having less plot time, leave an impact on the story which makes the plot much more authentic and engrossing. ••••• Grab yourself a cup of coffee and dive right into this. Highly recommended for anyone up for a thrilling ride into the underworld and their most unexpected norms.
Khan by Heath Gunn is part of the DI Lomax series. Expecting a police procedural when I settled in to read this one what I actually found was a quite blisteringly paced action packed thriller.
Focusing very much on the ‘Khan’ of the title, the book starts when local drug king Inzamam Khan’s body is dumped from a moving vehicle on the streets of Southampton. The question is who has dumped the body?
The book then tells the story of the previous 6 days of Khan’s life and leads up to who dumped Khan’s body.
What follows is a real adrenaline filled crime romp, absolutely packed with violence, money, drugs, betrayal, gangs and much more as Heath Gunn really writes a quite absorbing thriller with some quite entertaining characters. Khan himself isn’t very pleasant - He’s a drug lord, but Larry especially and Gonzo and Raj are great creations.
With shadows of tv program such as The Wire and The Sopranos, this tale is full of gang warfare and turf wars as vicious criminals fight to control the drug game in the south of England.
A well crafted thriller that leads into an explosive finale with a wicked twist, this was a great read and I’d very much recommend to fans of the aforementioned tv shows or anyone who enjoys a really white knuckle paced thrill ride
I decided to eat this book, as it was based where I lived. Whilst some references were made to Southampton, it wasn't a lot. I think the book had potential, but it was all over the place in so far as the story seemed to move quickly, you didn't really get to one part and it jumped to another. It wasn't written in detail, and obit overkill with both the wife, Khan and the Albanians all getting killed. The end was disappointing too.
Khan is a fantastic, fast-paced read – all the events happening over one week which works brilliantly. There were twists and turns along the way that really built up the tension.
In order to understand the machinations of the drug world on the south coast, I imagine Heath Gunn must have done a lot of research into it, but the story is never bogged down in detail about the business, but really concentrates on the relationships between the characters. As a result all the characters are well-developed and totally believable, and despite them being drug dealers, I even ended up liking some of them at the end!
Loved the way the author brought in DI Baxter from his first novel, Prisoner. Looking forward to his next offering!
As title says - couldn't put this book down. One of the best books I have read in last year. The plot was well developed and the writing excellent . Characters were developed and beleivable Recommend this book with no hesitation. More please Mr Gunn
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Brilliant read very engaging very fast paced and loved it all although i actually felt a bit sorry for Khan although not a bad man was soo betrayed by those he thought way loyal can't wait for the next instalment
TW: drugs, death, violence 🦄🦄🦄 At times like these, who else do you call on but family? 🦄🦄🦄 When the body of Inzamam Khan is dumped onto a busy Southampton street, it marks the fall of a dark empire.

WHO KILLED KHAN ? 🦄🦄🦄 Khan is the second crime fiction novel in the DI Baxter series by Heath Gunn and is as engaging as they come. Filled with intense action scenes and a little bit of drama, this story is worth the read. Inzamam Khan, the main character is brilliantly written as this menacing character but the author splashes in a few 'soft' moments that add to his character. Don't get me wrong, he's still a drug lord and good at his job of being the bad guy, but the author managed to make him something more than just a one dimensional mean character. There's a lot of effort put into the 'sidekicks' or side characters and even though I do question the necessity of it, I didn't hate it. The overall plot development is great because it's written in a way where we already know what the outcome is but it's interesting to see how we reached the point of no return and what could have led him to be in that situation (Who am I kidding he was eventually going to end up the way he did given his job, but you know what I mean). Although I loved the amount of details put into the story, there were certain areas where it ended up being unnecessary so there were definitely instances where I got bored and wanted the story to move along, but not a lot. Overall, definitely a must read if you're into crime fiction novels. 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 8/10 Melina L.
After reading the first book in this series which had a super fast blunt ending I was hoping this one would be more of a rounded conclusion, unfortunately not so. The story when it got started going back to a week previously was pretty good BUT again towards the end with only a few pages left it just ended without any police investigation conclusion. Also there was a repeat in a conversation with two characters within the space of just a few pages towards the end hence the 2* rating.
I read this book super quickly. I loved the characters and the unlikely alliances that happened during the story. It left me asking lots of questions when I finished it...what will happen to Raj, why is the nurse helping him (what’s her motivation - that alliance was so unexpected); How will Kahn’s daughter exact her revenge? A really enjoyable read from start to finish. Can’t wait for the next one!
