Reading this has changed me, literally. This story will be in my heart, and I have a feeling that it will not be leaving anytime soon. (I also am skimming the epilogue again because I'm ~feeling things~)

So. Epilogue 1. World of Zero. KDJ doing everything he can to give YJH a happy ending and not having to have him regress, only for it to be how the world was supposed to happen. Time paradoxes, man.

AND. How we've been shown that YJH's regressions have been a curse for him, but then THE FACT THAT IT WAS YJH WHO CHOSE TO REGRESS, KNOWING THAT ITLL BE DIFFICULT. ALL SO HE COULD MEET KDJ.

{“Tell me, you fool. If I continue to regress, will I ever get to meet you again?”}

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. KDJ AND YJH ARE SOULMATES, BUT LIKE. THE KIND THAT GO "I'll love you on purpose" WHICH IS MY FAVOURITE.

Also. This fits so well? YJH's happy life was chosen for him, but now he's making his choice to make his own ending.

And then. Epilogue 2- Not Found Anywhere. The fact that they're all willing to jump back into the hell that is the scenarios, just to bring KDJ back. The avatar is him, yes, but they want ALL of KDJ, even the parts of him that they don't know yet.

Found. Family. The loyalty that they have to each other, I love it so much.

Epilogue 3- Author's Words. I'd been wondering about tls123, so reading about 1863!HSY being them is interesting. HSY saying how she was gonna prevent the apocalypse, but then SHE wrote Ways of Survival, all so she can save the life of a man she barely knew. Okay I said KDJ and YJH were soulmates, but HSY is also their soulmate. Reader, protagonist, and writer. They all made their own choices and lived for the sake of one another. (Platonic or romantic, this story is really yoohankim supremacy)

Epilogue 4- The Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. KDJ's despair at how his companions refused to accept his ending. Also, his companions choosing to call their nebula KDJC, because even if certain people didn't like the name, they'll choose it for KDJ. And their desperation for KDJ to come back with them, I felt that. I felt every bit of despair that they felt when his soul scattered. And them adjusting to KDJ's absence. (And YJH becoming a terrorist, wtf)

Epilogue 5- The Eternity and The Epilogue (5 epilogues. That's long. But it's clear why it's so long. So much happens). So we've got KDJC WRITING OUT ORV (like. Holy crap woah). Some bickering as they argue as to what they should write about (I really needed this fluff). YJH being the one to travel across worldlines in an attempt to bring back KDJ. Even if it takes years and years. Him drifting off in space, realizing that his absence would give hope, and that he very well might never be able to return. BIYOO! The hope they all felt when KDJ's stories started once more, the way they all RAN to see KDJ, mixed with that worry that it might not have worked...

{"⸢If this story can really save you…⸥

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I would scream more, but I still want to actually talk more about the ending itself.

My first impression, while I absolutely adored the ending, I was a little devastated? Because I spent that while hoping for that happy ending, where I can see them have their domestic fluff moments in their big house. So the fact that there wasn't technically a confirmation that KDJ even woke up was HEARTBREAKING.

Except, the more I think about it, the more beautiful this ending is? A story doesn't truly end, it goes on and on, with limitless possibilities, and just, this ending is SO GOOD thematically!

And also. We talk about how the constellations just watch these stories for their own pleasure, but are we not just like the constellations? Should we not allow for the characters to have some privacy? It's why YJH not having his ■■ revealed is kinda cool, because it's part of his arc of being his own person. (I stole like half of these analyses from people online, oop-)

ORV is such a good story, there's so much that goes on, so much that I don't yet understand, but like, the information is all there, ready for me to piece it all together. (Its like watching revolutionary girl utena, you *won't* understand everything, but the more you think about it, the more hidden details you'll find)

I absolutely CANNOT wait for the webtoon to draw out everything here, even though that'll take YEARS. Or if it gets adapted into a movie/show? AAAAAA (it would be so cool to see this animated, oh my stars)

It's been like 2 weeks ish since I've finished ORV, and each day, I'm able to see more from it, and it's going to be one of those stories that'll stick with me for a really long time, I know it will

(I would like to mention that this has just been a translation of the Korean version. According to others, the translation itself isn't even that great, so like. If there's ever a more official English version that comes out, I will DEFINITELY be re-reading ORV)

Punching the air crying I'm so happy

I've finally found it. THE book to curb stomp all other books. Is this it? Is this the best book I'll ever read? What a strange feeling, knowing I might never read a book better than this one. But that's okay, if I could only ever read this again that would be enough for me. 10,751 pages is a lot, after all.

WAIT WAIT WAIT I JUST REALIZED, this whole time I've been like "Kim Dokja is an unreliable narrator" but I thought it was just cause like he was insecure and the fourth wall was numbing his experiences and all that but NO, HES AN UNRELIABLE NARRARATOR BECAUSE ITS NOT ~him~ WHOS DOING HIS OWN NARRARATION, ITS HAN SOOYOUNG GUESSING HOW HE WOULD NARRORATE HIS STORY OMFG MIND BLOWN WHAT

Oh my god. The way this absolutely destroyed me. I'm not even kidding when I said I cried buckets while reading the epilogue.

It's just. Kim Dokja's companions, Biyoo and the constellations love him so incredibly much that they were willing to sacrifice so much for him and go through the scenarios all over again, all 99 of them in order to reach the Final Wall and rescue him from being the Oldest Dream. And in the midst of that, I also found out that Han Sooyoung from the 1863rd regression was actually tls123? Like the time paradox honestly blew my mind, I was so shocked.

The three of them: Kim Dokja, Yoo Joonghyuk and Han Sooyoung; their lives and fates were so deeply intertwined that it was difficult to figure out where they started and ended. The sentences below taken from the novel will sum up what I mean:

Because Han Sooyoung wrote the Ways of Survival, Kim Dokja got to read it.

Because Kim Dokja read the Ways of Survival, Yoo Joonghyuk began his regression.

Because Yoo Joonghyuk began his regression, Han Sooyoung was able to write the 'Ways of Survival'.

It was a never-ending cycle and it meant that KDJ would always end up being the Oldest Dream, as his stories scattered all over the different world lines.

And even though KDJ'S Co.'s attempt at saving KDJ from his lonely fate wasn't a complete success, because he was reduced to being a kid stuck in a coma, not once did they ever think about giving up on him. Especially HSY and YJH. HSY, who wrote a novel for him with the hopes of getting him to dream up the ending they wanted. And YJH, who felt a sense of emptiness without KDJ that he wanted to try getting him back from a different world line 2 years after their first attempt, when KDJ'S Co. was finally able to take their first step in moving forward.

The ending was kind of ambiguous but leaning more towards a happy ending, where the kid-ified KDJ who had been in a coma for the past 4 years finally woke up with all his memories and stories intact. But honestly, the entirety of the epilogue was one volume just dedicated to the people who loved KDJ and who he loved dearly as well.

This sentence just made me bawl because I felt the closure of this story approaching:

This desire, a wish, of those who went their separate ways a long time ago to become one once more.

KDJ had always been alone and it was through these scenarios, his companions and his urge to reach the epilogue of his story was he finally able to convey his feelings and tell his own stories. YJH, HSY, the rest of the companions, the constellations and even the dokkaebis and outer gods. Every single one of them had their own stories to tell, whether they were smaller or more bigger stories, each of them were something precious.

ORV was painful, a tragedy of sorts but it was also a story about what it meant to grieve and hope, what it meant to bitterly struggle against all odds (even fate) to achieve something that you carved out for yourself, the power of love and friendship (or companionship) and the fact that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and mostly, how every person has their own stories to tell and how these stories have the power to change someone's life, even if it's just their own.

From February 16th to November 4th at 1:05AM. 5683 pages on my phone later, and after having no tears left to cry, my ORV journey has finally reached its ending (let's pretend there's no extra content for a minute). I had a full on insane moment while reading the epilogue, I spent an hour simultaneously crying, reading and drinking my tea, but thankfully none of my family noticed (or else I'd have to explain why I'm full on sobbing while reading a freaking book).
For usual reviews, most of the time I like to state why I rated the book the way I did but honestly, I don't see the point in saying the usual things this time around. This book has been my great journey that lasted almost 10 full months, and to be completely honest, I could've easily read it in like two three months but I simply chose not to. Even though it literally has 5.6k pages full of words, it still wasn't enough. Halfway through I was already grieving the fact that this book and this characters are eventually going to reach the epilogue, and then the ending.
This was a complete unique experience for me on many levels, and it will leave a huge impression on me even years later. The topics discussed in the book, the ideas, the whole purpose of reading and authors and readers... The way they all mended at some point and became one was absolutely fascinating to me, and it made me realize even more just how magical reading is, and just how important it is. Even though this book is clearly fiction, it's not exactly false. Just like Kim Dokja, all of us are readers, and we all not only escape the reality by reading, we also unconsciously become the protagonists and get to experience what the characters are experiencing, and even make our own stories. At the end of the day, we're all just characters trying to reach our own 'One story' and our own epilogue, and I think that's just so beautiful.
If you've reached this after me speaking almost nonsense, thank you. I'm just really sappy rn and I don't think I will exactly ever recover from this book. When I first opened my epub of this book I first of all had no idea how long it is. Second of all I didn't expect to actually like it this much. And third of all, I had no idea it would completely change my way of thinking, just how influential it would be on my small brain. The most special thanks goes out to my girlie Sulfi who's love for this book made me not only pick it up, but actually completely fall in love with the world and it's characters. Ly so much girlie<3, and thank you for bearing with me on this long long journey, and waking up to 20+ messages occasionally on discord (even though you brought it upon yourself heh).
At last, I wanted to say thank you to Han Sooyoung, Yoo Joonghyuk and Kim Dokja. Fuck you all for making me cry for you <3

If I choose you, will I get to finally meet you?
Tell me, you fool. If I continue to regress, will I ever get to meet you again?

watch me screaming and crying blood. Because why is this two fools keep doing this to each other I don't understand anymore, probably just to give me more pain.

∞/5 starss!! ✨

"Tell me, you fool. If I continue to regress, will I ever get to meet you again?"

This was so bittersweet 💔
Never in a million years could I ever imagine such an ending for this novel...
But, in a sense this was the best ending for Kim Dokja's story.

Would it be selfish for me to want more?
my heart just can't seem to give up on this...

I am satisfied.

I feel like someone who was sneakily taught something. I started this novel expecting a fun apocalypse survival story - which I got - but ended up taking away quite a few thoughts on what it means to write a good story. I appreciate what Singshong did here with this story and I'm grateful for the experience.

“The vast, indescribable time would cycle over and over again, leading them to reach and meet one another, only to part ways again.”

“Because Han Sooyoung wrote the Ways of Survival, Kim Dokja got to read it.
Because Kim Dokja read the Ways of Survival, Yoo Joonghyuk began his regression.
Because Yoo Joonghyuk began his regression, Han Sooyoung was able to write the 'Ways of Survival'.”

I honestly believe it doesn't get gayer than that. Además, tenemos esta frase like ??? Singshong really said gay .

"Tell me, you fool. If I continue to regress, will I ever get to meet you again?”

⸢If this story can really save you…
If you regained just a little of your memories and remember us just one more time…
Then I'll keep writing the epilogue for you until the end of the time, for eternity.⸥

this was, hands down, one of the most satisfying conclusions to any piece of media i've ever experienced. every reveal was handled exceptionally, and the meta aspect of this was insane.

a huge portion of that is due to yoohankim- they simply reach levels of soulmatism that is impossible for the human mind to comprehend. there are a billion things i could go on about but it really just comes down to every iteration of the three of them being in this loop of using their life to save the others, and not existing without the other two. i love the three of them to such an insane amount that i cannot imagine there was a time before i read orv where they didn't take up this much of my heart and soul. idc if you view their relationship as romantic, platonic, or a secret third thing, but it does all of their characters such a disservice not to examine the endless bounds of their love for eachother. they know it's doomed. they know there's less than a 1% chance of them being reunited in the way they all want. they know it'll take a lifetime of pain to secure that chance. and they'll do it anyways

on that note, joongdok is truly the doomed yaoi of all time. i'm not going to go into the entirety of their dynamic's progression throughout orv because it would take me a lifetime, but

i am so eternally grateful to have stumbled upon this book. it is one of those stories that is so all-encompassing and compelling that when you finish it you feel like you lived a whole extra life. it has over a million words, and i would eagerly read that many more. hell i honestly might have to learn korean just to read this as intended. kim dokja i will hold this piece of you in my heart with love for the rest of my life <3

[This story is for just one reader.]

I'm sorry, what am I supposed to do with my life now?
This story is over. Yet it can never be over for me. I hadn't even finished it before I started yearning to reread the novel. It happens to me sometimes, and I'm glad it happened here. I feel like this story is a huge part of me now.

This webnovel is more than 1,300,000 word. Can you imagine? I can. And I devoured it with pleasure.
And will do so again. I hope in a few short years we'll have the full official translation ready, cause I would love to see this work become more coherent. Although I still think that whoever did the fan translation did an amazing job, as much as they could.

Now, my real question is — how do I make people around me read these books? I don't have anyone who's ready to dive into such a huge series, yet I want everyone, e v e r y o n e to read this masterpiece and gush to me about it.

I highly recommend you guys go and read this short comic after the epilogue. It brings some closure if you need it. And fits the lore perfectly in my opinion. I loved it.

a masterpiece !
perfect possible ending. i feel understood as someone who loves reading and stories.

spoilers!

< spoiler > han sooyoung the mvp! she did so much for dokja! no one did as much as she did! the way she cried for him and how she wrote just to save him. not once but twice. the $ui€id scene broke my heart to pieces.
when everything was connected through this loop! the 0th turn! how han sooyoung ends up writing the book. and becomes tls123.
the ending was the perfect ending possible. dokja never got to read the epilogue of ways of survival. the story han sooyoung wrote later and yjh spread it in different timelines also didnt have an ending. yjh never got is ■■. and we also didnt get the ending of orv. but we will imagine the rest. and we will become the older dream.
dokja ... i hated him through the epilogue so much but also after i finishedthe book. i could understand him. as a reader i can feel how he feels. and if i get to go to the universe of the book i love so much i would do exactly the same thing. i also have a story that saved me exactly like him. i also talked about it with my mom everyday. i also imagined the different endings or different scenarios that would happen after the book ends. i did also imagine that i was a character in that book. so i understand him.
and every story is written for its reader. < / spoiler >.

This story has always been about the epilogue.

My mind is blown, my heart is broken. I’m going to need some time to recover from this one. As someone who has always found solace in reading, this story really hit home for me, and I honestly did not expect it to hit as hard as it did. I’ve read very few other books that truly capture how stories can change and save lives, and what it actually means to be a reader.

This entire book is an existential crisis—a brilliantly paradoxical meta masterpiece. I had no idea what I was in for.
