Feast of the Swamp Goblin

Rate this book
Something is lurking deep in the wilderness...

When five young friends from the University of West London go travelling in celebration of their graduation, they begin by venturing into the near-isolated regions of British Columbia.

But, in the mountainous forests, beyond the empty roads and scarcely walked trails, something even more unbelonging than themselves awaits... and its hostility is rivalled only by its appetite.

Let the feast begin.

Feast of the Swamp Goblin is the first of Lewis Stone's horror "B-Books", paying homage to classic 80s slasher, creature feature, paranormal, science fiction, and splatter-fest horror movies in novel format.

We have a love of B-horror movies in this house. My husband suggested this book for me to read and I have to say that I was not disappointed. Dubbed by the author a horror 'B-Book', it's just that and it's so much fun.

Five 20-something kids go into the woods on a graduation hike across the Canadian wilderness. They have no idea what they are walking into. They're the typical B-horror movie characters, the jock, the pretty one, the average girl, the guy in love with the average girl who has no idea and the nerd, throw in a grizzled old man on a vendetta to kill the "goblin" as he calls it, and you have the perfect story. If this was a B-horror movie, it would have all the tropes that make them so wonderful, partaking in drinking, drugs and sex, plus splitting up and they saying, "I'll be right back"(clearly, they don't know the rules of a horror movie). This book oozes B-horror, from the beginning to the very end and you will not be disappointed. It's a fun, quick read that will keep you entertained from page one.

It's called "Feast of the Swamp Goblin" and if you're expecting anything more than exactly that, then this isn't for you. It's a wonderfully campy novella inspired by 50s monster movies that adopts virtually every trope there is. It's quick, easy to read and a lot of fun. With plenty of gore along with some hilariously cheesy lines, this book does exactly what it says on the tin. If you're looking for something quick and easy that doesn't take itself too seriously, then look no further. It's a lot of fun and you get exactly what you would hope.

B a shame to miss this!

A really good read, a horror that makes you smile, even if that smile is a little twisted. Read it in one session, would definitely read more from the author.

Feast of the Swamp Goblin

5 Stars.

Lewis Stone describes this story as a horror B-Book, stemming from his love of popcorn horror flicks, and he delivers a compelling, entertaining, splatter-fest of a tale. I knew I was going to enjoy this read from the very first sentence. After the opening chapter, we are introduced to our ex-students, a rag tag bunch of English university friends, travelling to the back of beyond of the Canadian wilderness for drinks, drugs, and sex. And as any horror film fan knows, partaking in such activities is a death sentence!

Stone is a dab hand at utilising tropes for the slasher fans. I wanted to scream at the characters, “no, don't split up!”, “noooo, do not say you will be back soon!”. However, at the same time, the characters are believable twenty-somethings, with fleshed out back stories and their own personalities that shine through in their actions.

It is a short read (took me 45 minutes), but price accordingly, and I am really excited to see more of these B-Books.

Like Lewis says in prologue it a fun quick homage monster slasher film.
Fun quick romp in northwest Canada swamp monster.
Easily could be an episode of Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt. Due to not just gory horror but amusing anecdotes.

I *LOVED* this! For me it was pretty damn perfect. I knew what I was going into, and I liked the little intro that explains the difference between the serious saga Lewis is writing, and how this was a fun side project. It was refreshing to be reminded not everything has to be so serious and formal all the time, especially when you just want to enjoy some slasher gory horror! That aside, I have read and enjoyed and adored Birthing the Beast and Monsters and Men and I am patiently waiting on the next addition because that saga is also VERY VERY VERY good so definitely check that out to fulfil your dark fantasy needs.

This little book was sooooooo much fun. From the very start to the very end it absolutely bled classic slasher gore b-horror and had every little element we all know and love from the films. The characters are easy to rank in the group of hopeless young adults with doomed fates and I had a lot of fun reading this unfold. It certainly brightened up a rainy afternoon, this little swamp goblin is definitely ready to read some more b-horror goodness from Lewis Stone.

Spooky book. I enjoyed how most of them got picked off one by one. Not a fan of dogs dying but good for the plot I suppose. This was a quick read!

AHH! I LOVED THIS BOOK!
Feast of the Swamp Goblin by Lewis Stone is a perfectly written campy, grotesque, gory horror story!! A real fun read that feels like an 80’s classic!

The Lycanthrope Saga, also by Lewis Stone, is at the top of my TBR list for this year now!
