Drake Ackley - Death

They call us the men who will drive the world to its knees.
The Four Horsemen.
A pity for them really.
Prescott, West, Francis and I are done with our masks of civility.
Gods who turned on their subjects.

When you unleash death, nothing can withstand it. Everything perishes in the wake of the executioner. The only things left to show for it are ash and dust.

We had allowed our enemies to take from us for far too long. The tables had finally turned. Our woman had arrived to usher in the end.

Scarlett was the catalyst. The fuse.
The match was burning. Time was running out.
And we were about to bring war to the man who stole her from us all those years ago.

A dark why choose (MFMMM) contemporary retelling of the four horsemen of the apocalypse set in Sarah Bailey's Dark Universe with cliffhangers and a HEA in the final book.

This is a DARK romance and therefore comes with a content warning. Please see the author's website for full details.

I usually do not take the time to write a review. But I make an exception for when a book has impacted me so deeply that it brought me to tears (because I never cry).
And I am making an exception for this series.
Because I have never been so disappointed, annoyed and disgusted with a piece of “literature” (if we can even call it that) in my life.

I want to first state that my displeasure with this series has nothing to do with it being a dark romance or it being reverse harem. One of my favorite series is The Ravenhood which is also multiple partners. While knife and blood play are not my thing at all, that is not the issue.

My complaint is based on the fact that this was SO poorly written!!! There is absolutely no plot. No details. No secondary characters. No rhyme or reason to the characters motives or actions and I found it IMPOSSIBLE to connect with any of the 5 people featured in this book. And it was IMPOSSIBLE to understand their connection to each other. While the concept of 5 POVs seems like a dream because you can get into everyone’s head… it was executed so poorly and I felt like I was reading the same exact POV because their internal monologue across all 5 MCs were the same, just a different name slapped on it. They all describe the world the same way and they all use the same exact phrases when expressing themselves. Not to mention that each book is dedicated to one horseman and we probably spend more time in everyone else’s POV. Like it makes no sense to have it be West’s book but we keep spending time with Francis. This should have been written as a third person POV.

And what is more this could have been one long book AT MAX 2. Literally the first two books is just everyone saying the same thing over and over again while saying nothing at all. We have no idea what happened with Scarlett, or what she is doing for the horsemen, ( ask me what they do for work right now and I couldn’t tell you. It’s just “finance” and that’s funny because their “empire” was all part of their scheme to get her back but that is never explained. Like wth does finance have to do with your enemy. Make it make sense). We learned nothing of their history or why they are so attached to her, we don’t understand what their plan is for her. The entire first two books is us just standing around talking about amber eyes, indigo eyes, hazel-green eyes, having extreme, repetitive sex, and talking about how Scarlett had been taken away but she belong to them. She belong to them. She belong to them. She belong to them. She was taken away and she belonged to them….( has that sunk in yet for you or do you need me to tell it to you again?? You know what I’ll do what the author does and say it for the people in the back). SHE WAS TAKEN AWAY AND SHE BELONGED TO THEM.

The author has a unique way of using words over and over and over again like her vocabulary bank was limited and she had no idea how to create the scene. I have become utterly disgusted with words like “whilst” “lamb” “wisp” “ours” “yours” “mine” “I need you” because those seem to be the only words the characters know how to say. Overall it was poorly written. Here is a non-spoiler example of how the entire book is written : “She was still dressed in a sleep shirt and shorts, so hadn’t got ready for the day yet” ( me while reading oh wow being in her pjs meant she hadn’t gotten ready yet 🤯). Or there is this artistic sentence : “I don’t know what it was about her, or maybe I did.” (profound).

And then there is the killings. If you’re gonna kill people and you are going to tell me they deserved it. Make me feel the hatred for them. Killing people Willy nilly for the most thinly veiled “offenses” and then just saying “they deserved it” is not enough, because I’m going to be honest. No one deserved any of the deaths handed out over the course of this series. Some of them were straight up ridiculous and laughable. One victims knew her death was coming and was stomping around like a 2year old having a tantrum saying she was inconvenienced by her impending death. HOW IS THAT AN EVEN REMOTELY REALISTIC RESPONSE????!!! America explain!!

Book three finally gives some answers and even those answers are just surface level. And book four was literally ridiculous. In the end. I sided with Stuart, who was the enemy of the entire series. Stuart deserved better. I don’t condone kidnapping or abuse ever but he was the only one with a motive behind his actions that I could kind of sort of understand.

So if you are into books with absolutely no conversation and no plot and a lot of repetition and sex scenes every 2 seconds ( too many slices) with amazing seduction scene consisting of “ I need you” “Don’t stop” “You’re mine” (I kid you not she says that for every guy every time)
Then I highly recommend this series

I kept hoping action will come, romance will come, something will happen. And I was thoroughly disappointed. They said dark romance, I said I want it. Well, it's just dark smut. And even though I like me some smut, I also like me books with plots. I didn't get that here. So, so disappointed.

*Slight spoilers ahead*

This series was not what I expected. I wanted more.

The premise of the books, the idea of them, the idea of the plot was good. Like really fucking good. I mean, come on, four dudes who have a reputation as the four horsemen of the apocalypse? Gimme!

Well, these books didn't gimme at all. If it wasn't for the smut all my rating would be 1 star. And even if there was smut, it was in almost every single fucking chapter. I love me some good sexy reading material, but that was excessive.

But that's not the main problem. The problem was that the author wanted to show the connection and love the heroine felt for the four heroes and what they felt for her through sex. But there wasn't an ounce of romance! Ok, they said they loved her and would do anything for her and they killed a bunch of guys to keep her safe and yada yada...I think the author relied heavily on the fact that there is history between the five of them before the events of these books and it shows.

I get this a dark romance RH and they were supposed to be big and bad and scary, but I needed more. Like show me they love her. Show me, don't tell me. Make them do more romantic stuff towards her, other than killing the people that want to harm her and then fuck her. That's all good and well, but relationships aren't based solely on sex.

I've read plenty of dark romances, much darker than this one with much more unhinged characters, and that's something else that bothered me. I wanted to see them lose their shit. I wanted the author to show me, not just let me know because a character in his POV said he liked killing, didn't have remorse, did depraved things and then have them kill like one dude, go fuck the heroine and then call it a day. They call them the four horsemen for fuck's sake, but I didn't see anywhere the reason why. Just having them have dirty sex with weird kinks doesn't do it for me, if there's no plot.

And here comes an other major issue. So, you have this girl who had an accident, almost died, lost her memories, got kidnapped by a rich guy with a grudge. Then you have the four main guys who were her best friends, were devastated when she disappeared, moved mountains to find her (supposedly, because that to is told, not shown, except maybe a chapter), finally did find her, made themselves rich and powerful (again we're not shown of this power they have over London, they just act like they're the shit), build a company from the ground to get her back. She then comes work for them, because the rich dude who kidnapped her wants to destroy them, and she doesn't remember them or anything about her life. All this to me seems like the premise of an amazing book series, and you didn't fucking deliver.

Where the hell is the plot? Where is it? Where did it go? Why is it missing?

When you tell me the main characters are so powerful and rich and everyone fears them, I want to see it. I want to see their business deals, their connection with underworld, with the mob, with gangsters and bikers, with anything for that matter. But there's none of that. Aghhh. I want to scream.

I kept expecting for things go change. For something to happen that would shock me. After last book's cliffhanger I thought there would be more action. Nope. Obviously we don't do that here. And the fucking big finale, the terror they were going to reign on the guy who took their girl from them and kept her ten years, was anticlimactic. They spent the whole book fucking and saying things like "Oh he doesn't know what's coming to him, he'll be sorry he ever messed with us" and have them do nothing at all to us what they are planning.

These books were full of unnecessary "mysteries" and repetitive. They could all be combined into one big book or a descend sized one.

The "plot" was there just for the heck of it. Just to say there is one. The main theme of these books is kinky fuckery. Literally. Don't expect anything heavy, other than smut with a dash of a plotline.

This is the final book in this series and everything is wrapped up really well. All the questions and mysteries finally answered! And let me tell you, its been a journey!

What I really loved about this series, is that while it revolves around criminal activity and violence... It heavily focuses on the relationship between the five main characters. Which isn't the case a lot of the time with gang themes, mafia or criminal tropes. We get to see these people find each other again, go through tough and trying situations and then comes out the other side stronger. I also love that we got to see them tell their families about their poly relationship. I definitely wish that was in more RH's.

I also love how well done the kink is in this series. Each man has a different kink and using said kink on Scarlett helps her, heals her, and makes her stronger. I think Francis and Prescott are my favorite... But I wouldn't kick any of the boy's out of bed. I also enjoyed the bond the men had, found family will forever be one of my favorite tropes and it is very present in this series.

With all that said, I did think some of the things that happened at the end of this particular book were a bit predictable. But that could just be me being such a fan of RH's and criminal tropes that I read so many that I see a lot of the same formula in them. But it doesn't take away from how much I enjoyed this series. If you love RH, revenge plot, found family and INSANELY WELL DONE SPICE!!! Then this is the series for you!

As usual this was all smut and no plot. Even with a literal blood bath it felt anticlimactic and rushed. Only reason this gets 3 stars is because the Preston smut was excellent.

If I could give this book a zero, I would. As I’ve said before, this series was the choice for the romance book club I’m in. Otherwise, I don’t think I would have ever even decided to push through.

I consider myself a pretty open minded person and know everyone has their kink (if you catch my drift) but blood just ain’t it. The bathtub scene (iykyk) had me cringing and I ended up skimming all 3 chapters of it.

The plot by this point is so nonchalant and about 90% of this book is intimate scenes. Don’t get me wrong. I love my steamy scenes but these felt so repetitive and way too often.

Character growth? Maybe for Drake but I don’t see what everyone else is talking about. I don’t see how degrading someone can strengthen a bond but that’s just me. I don’t find Scarlett a strong heroine either. 😅🤷🏽‍♀️

The grammar was horrible as well. Did anyone proofread this book?

Overall, just not my cup of tea and that’s okay.

I skimmed this book.. I’ve never lost interest in sex scenes before. But there was just too many and they were too predictable, I think I was desensitised. I like to have a little more build up to sex, the anticipation, the thrill.. it was just all gone for me.

Omg! Sarah has blown me away with this masterpiece.

Cataclysm is the fourth and final book of the Four Horsemen series and we FINALLY have all the answers!

The feelings this book evokes are next level. Not gut wrenching sad feelings either. But all the loooove feelings. The way Scarlett and all her boys love each other and express that love in this book is just…🥺. You’ll literally be left as a puddle of gooey good feelings.

Scarlett really finds herself in this book and becomes a total badass that you’ll be cheering for and wanting to give her high fives. She absolutely defeats her demons in this book and it’s a sight to see.

Now about the spice. I honestly wasn’t sure how Sarah was going to top the previous books with the spice level but hot damn did she ever! My spice level meter was SHATTERED!

Thank you so much Sarah for giving me this opportunity to be an arc reader for you! It’s been a journey that I have loved every minute of.

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't skim through this one. The last book in a series should be one that wraps it up well and leaves you feeling satisfied. This was the opposite. It was a hot mess. It felt like the author had gotten tired of writing these characters so she just rushed with the ending. It felt very...anticlimatic tbh. But still, 3 stars. I'd say that I'm being generous with my ratings for these books what with the whole manhoes thing + "You're the only woman that I loved so when I lost you, I fucked the entire female population" + the guys not sharing a girl for the first time. I like thinking/seeing that there's something the MMCs have done for the first time with the MMC yk? Props when it comes to the possessive scenes tho throughout this series - they were good.

To say that Sarah Bailey has done it again is absolutely an understatement. Anyone following me knows that this is 50% a Sarah Bailey fan account, it’s just the way it is… but it’s for seriously good reason.

𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑐𝑙𝑦𝑠𝑚 is the fourth and last book in the 𝙵𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝙷𝚘𝚛𝚜𝚎𝚖𝚎𝚗 𝚂𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚜 and all of your questions will be answered!

I’ll be honest with you all, I bawled like a toddler on too many occasions to count 😅 None of the crying was anything other than my heart literally bursting with rainbows and butterflies over just ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑚𝑢𝑐ℎ Scarlett and these men love one another. This truly was a love story that is going to stay with me forever.

Watching Scarlett go through her trauma and come out the other side a badass warrior goddess has been a fucking pleasure. She’s such an amazing heroine. Everything she goes through would have broken weaker women, but her growth is just so beautiful.

Also, I know everyone wants to know about the spice… because one thing this series has absolutely ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀᴇᴅ on is the steam. I can 100% confirm that this last book is not lacking in the steam AT ALL. In fact, if it’s at all possible, Sarah has managed to raise the bar in that department. When I tell you, dear reader, that you have 𝑛𝑜 𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑎… I mean it. I absolutely, positively, mean every word of that.

If you haven’t pre-ordered this yet, you need to get on top of it… and if you haven’t started this series yet, there’s still time before November 19th to get started and be caught up in time for the release!!

Damn.
I really enjoyed this.
Mostly because of the smut, but also because their relationships really flourish in this book.

The plot was a bit secondary, but also dangerous and murderous, and ended exactly how I wanted it to.

The sex. Fuck, the sex.
It was hot, kinky, full of praise and degradation and roughness and bindings and chasing and watching and biting and scarring and welting and hand collars and Blood…fuck, the blood scene was hot and depraved and I loved it.

The smut was just fantastic in every book.
And in this one and most of the 3rd they stop being so emotionally taxing from all the secrets and lies and start being incredibly satisfying.

They all talk out their feelings.
And they all get vulnerable with Scarlett and let her see them.

I loved it.
I’m glad I came back to it after DNFing the first book last year.
It was dark and dirty and full of smut.

Do I even need to say check TWs? Because for sure do Not pick up the first book or any of the others without looking at the full list of trigger warnings if you’re even a tiny bit concerned it might have something that could fuck with your head.

Ok. So now what?
Where the hell is Penn’s book?
That’s what I wanna read next, but I don’t think it exists.🥺

This is the fourth and unfortunately, final book in Sarah Bailey’s Four Horseman dark romance reverse harem series. If you haven’t read the first three books in the series, I suggest you do so,as the stories all have cliffhangers you don’t want to miss, especially since the whole series is now out and you can binge read to your dark heart’s content.

Cataclysm is officially Death’s or Drakes book, but if you have been reading the series, you know all the boys are involved. This book is where everything comes to it’s spectacular and particularly violent conclusion. If you have a weak stomach, and blood bothers you, you may want to give this one a pass. But if you are a dark romance fan who doesn't mind delving into the darkness and kinky delights each of the four horsemen deliver, then dive on in!

After dealing with Scarlett's kidnapping, the guys and Scarlett now have Stuart to deal with. He's the one who stole her away and locked her up for ten years, beating and abusing her, then sending her after the four horsemen, West (War), Prescott (Pestilence), Frankie (Famine), and Drake (Death), to exact revenge for killing his sons. But he wasn’t counting on her falling for them, and he certainly wasn't counting on her getting her lost memory back.

As I said, this final book is particularly violent, as Stuart comes after them hard in his efforts to get Scarlett back. But the boys protect Scarlett and show her just how much they love her. Sarah wrote this so brilliantly, balancing dark to light, taking a group of damaged people and making them a loving family who fit together like a puzzle, and make each other better for
It. Once Scarlett is with them again, they are whole, and Sarah does a spectacular job of making this reverse harem work as a cohesive unit, with a little kink and blood thrown in for good measure. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next
To the reviewers who give books like this dark reverse harem poor reviews based on content alone, I urge you to just put the book down. You were warned by both the author's blurb and her website. As for those for those who are picking apart her Grammer by using such phrases as "She was sat on the bench. " vs sitting or use of floor instead of ground, it's not American grammar, it's the UK grammar she's using. Pay attention!

“You complete us, Scar. I don’t have need or want for anything else other than this.”

This ending to the Four Horsemen series is everything I needed and even some things that I didn’t know I needed.

We end Corrode with Scarlett being taken, but by whom? The ultimate creeper, Mason. He has Scar held up and is convinced she is his to keep, forever. Thankfully the boys show up and finally teach Mason a lesson he has been refusing to learn. Scarlett is back with her boys. But the bigger threat is still lurking..

Scarlett has to come face to face with her past traumas, but not alone. The Horsemen are by her side and what’s their plan? To kill them all. Destroy the man and his empire that stole 10 years of their lives.

We finally get to see another side of Death. Scarlett is determined to get past Drake’s walls and oh boy does she. Drake has this mindset that she couldn’t or wouldn’t want him the way she is with the other three. This man has defenses galore. But Scarlett wants the boy from her past, and she finds him in this man, who literally kills for her. I melted as soon as the switch is flipped with Drake, and all the daddy vibes that come with it.

I absolutely loved how Scar came into her own. Taking what she wants from her men and facing her demons. They was she transforms in order to be what each of her men need is intoxicating. In the final part of the book, she will amaze you. The five of them skillfully attack the Carver mansion, and show no mercy whatsoever. Moments at the mansion completely gutted me. But they can’t just kill them all without a little fun right? Buckle up for the final moments at the mansion.

It was such a bittersweet feeling going into the last book of this series, but Sarah definitely went out with a bang and gave us all the closure we needed. The emotions I went through were endless. A complete wreck and bawling my eyes out , to a panting mess, to nonstop giggling at one particular psycho, and then finally so content. There’s really no other way their story could have ended. Scarlett will always be Prescott’s little lamb, West’s little Scar, Francis’ little whore, and Drake’s little wisp.

The Four Horsemen and their goddess of night, Nyx.

So I’m glad that we got some closer in the end. But as I predicted in the first book this series could have been 2 really great books instead of 4. It was just drawn out way too much.

In this book pros is having a resolution and at least a bit of action. Spice is spicing a lot. I wish we got more of sassy West though, he was funny.

Cons: too long, pacing issues, I found an ick in the bath tub scene.

This was an ok read but not one I’d rave to for a friend.

This series had me in a chokehold from the beginning and this book was just chock full of spicy goodness and closure for these characters and I loved it.

Scarlett and her guys are finally working together to get their revenge and ensuring their family is safe and can never be separated again.
Scarlett is not fucking around. After everything she has been through, finally seeing her come into herself is everything.
The character growth in this series is so good. Looking back at how all of the guys were in the first book vs this book is crazy.
I don’t remember the last book that I read where I was this convinced that the characters were meant for each other. It’s so clear that Scar and her guys give each other exactly what they need.
This book is definitely more character focused than plot focused but I didn’t mind at all.

And I will continue to say the spice in this is pretty unparalleled y’all. The group scenes, the kinks 🥵🥵🥵 and then the aftercare 🥰 it’s so good guys.

If you haven’t jumped into this series yet, I highly recommend it!

The final installment of the series puts an end to the ongoing war between the four horsemen, their goddess of the night and enemy, Stuart Carter.

The last book ended in the note, that Scarlett was kidnapped and in need of rescuing. All of the open plot lines will be finished with this book and brought to a HEA.

I personally only read the last book in case I'd change my opinion on this series. The first book made the four horsemen out to be these incredibly cunning and witty figures of power, but in the end it was rather anti-climactic. Nothing came as a surprise and exchanging sex-scenes for actual plot, never goes over nicely for me. Some things were written way to fast (especially emotional development) while other things were dragged on way too long (can you guess which scenes?).

I ended up skipping several pages and can say I didn't miss out.

This series was absolutely incredible. I’m a massive fan of reverse harems and dark romance and this is now one of my favourites.
The kinks and smut in this was immense, the group activities were SPICY AF 🥵🌶
I’m in love with all four horsemen. I would sell my soul to be their little whore, little wisp, little warrior, little nyx.
Scar is an incredibly strong MC, not only does she get revenge and stay strong after all the shit she’s been through but she also keeps those four horsemen in line. She’s a queen. With her four Kings.
I loved this series with all my heart, not only was it smutty but the plot line was dark and heartbreaking.
Please read TW before reading as this is DARK AF.

The final book in the Four Horsemen Series and ill tell you I WAS NOT READY!!!
Book 4 follows on straight from the end of book 3.
Scarlett comes into her own, the growth of her character throughout this series was EVERYTHING.
The plot was amazing, pulling you into the story, so you're right in there with the characters.
Each of her men bring something different to the books, each with their own personalities and styles.
Now all the secrets are out, Scarlett is ready for revenge and Sarah does not disappoint with the action, drama, and angst of it all.
This last book was very emotional and had me crying.
The spice was out of this world and hit all the right places, uffffff.
So sad that the series has ended.

I don't know how to start this. I'm so speechless right now. Let me just start by saying I'm so sad this ride is over. It's one of the best series I've ever read (I may be exaggerating since this is my first reverse-harem series) and it was so wonderful I can't help but be content, happy and glad.

The plot is great. The characters are great. The smut is 🌶🌶🌶. I never thought I'd like reverse-harem since I've never understood how it works. But this has made me realise everything is possible as long as you fight for your loved ones and you're happy with how things are and not question fate and destiny.

Scarlett fought tooth and nail for her own survival. She is a very determined, headstrong and strong-willed person. A queen in her own right. Scarlett has always been her own person, not having a care in the world about what society deems normal and its rules and expectations. The boys are perfect in their own way. And by that really I mean fcked up in their own way. The friendship of five best friends blooming into something much more beautiful is swoon-worthy. And don't even get me started on their all-consuming love.

It is so hard to write this without spilling all the beans cause damn... I want to rave about this so much it hurts. The fact that this series has all five POVs makes it even better. The reason I gave this a 4.5 stars is because this is literally 75% smut and 25% plot.

I was content. I was happy. I was home. Because wherever Scarlett was, that was home.
The story of our life had begun with me and Scarlett. It ended with us too. It ended right here, where everything had gone wrong.
We weren't just Scarlett and West any longer. We were Nyx and War. And we belong with the rest of our family. Pestilence, Famine and Death.
The Four Horsemen and their goddess, Nyx. Etched on each other's hearts forever as one. Fate had woven the strings of our lives and brought us together. And it would never tear us apart again.

This book was absolutely amazing! It’s the final installment of the horsemen series and did not disappoint! The passion, love and omg the spice… 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. To say it was inferno level hot doesn’t do it justice. I’ve come to love each of the four horsemen in different ways and when I read the last page I was sad to see it finished. Scarlett is an amazing heroine and the true complement to the horsemen.

I would highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone who would like dark romance!

⭐ 3.5/5
🌶 5/5

I was so excited for this book and I loved the series as a whole. This last installment wrapped things up very nicely, everything solved and we got a nice HAE.

But... it was very sex scene heavy (which I never thought I'd complain about!!), and in ny opinion it got a bit repetitive about halfway through the book. I found myself skimming through scenes. I felt like the characters had a wonderful growth throughout the series, but not that much was left for them to do or grow in this last book. I especially loved how Scarlet grew into a strong, capable woman snd her relationship with all the guys is swoonworthy. I love all the guys, especially Drake. ❤🥵

I wanted to LOVE this book in the same way I loved the earlier ones. There's some action in this one, as we get the final showdown with the baddies, but I was left feeling a bit disappointed still. It wrapped up almost too nicely, everything went too smoothly.

Although I didn't love this last one as much as I wanted to love it, the series is still one of my faves and the smut and kink is hoooot stuff.

Dark Reverse Harem
Please read the trigger warnings

This is the final book in the Four Horsemen series and I’m so sad to see it end, but it definitely ends in the most perfect way.

This book is fueled by love and vengeance and honestly, what more could a girl ask for?

Daddy Drake comes out his shell to show us what Death is really capable of and that no one will keep him from his bratty, little wisp. Their back and forth together became one of my favorite things. Her pushing his buttons and his delicious punishments; I live for that Dom energy. Also a little blood never hurt anyone. 😏

All four men really come full circle within themselves and for our girl while strengthening her in the process. Scar works through a lot of her trauma to come back on top and take hold of her life again. Their ending was perfect and what they all deserved.

One last note, BRACE YOURSELF FOR CHAPTER 38 CAUSE THINGS ARE GONNA GET WILD! 🥵

Perfecto.

Oh Sarah...

Once upon a time I found this author on tiktok and I never looked back.

I held off on this series until it was finished because I knew I would become obsessed.
West has my heart. He was so beautifully written and I loved everything about him.
Drake comes in a VERY close second with his man of few words but when he did say them, be still my heart.
Frankie and Pres are tied at 3rd but still just as important as the others. They were flawless.

The nicknames in this series are also ON POINT.
Its like Sarah knew exactly what I needed in my ultimate RH series and created this series for my darkest desires.

If you are a dark, RH lover, Four Horsemen is a must read.
