Joshua Rhodes, bass guitarist, was hooked from the moment he saw her at the airport. He thought the feeling was mutual…until she got on a plane and flew away.
She doesn’t intend to get caught…
Elizabeth Bennet, screenwriter, understood the chemistry and enjoyed the flirting, but she was not interested in a relationship. Joshua didn’t give up and he didn’t push…until she went to him. Which was the only way she would accept.
Between heartfelt emails and playful texts—as well as challenging each other to stretch in their different creative modes—Elizabeth comes to realize that Joshua has been basically hers since Christmas. Just as she’s been basically his.
Sandi Layne has been writing for more than twenty years, publishing works of contemporary Christian romance, historical fiction, and posting columns on writing and publishing for various sites at one time or another. Her stories are noted for their attention to detail and striking heroines, and she enjoys bringing her readers through stories that surprise, entertain, and edify.
Married for more than a quarter of a century, she, her husband, and their two sons currently reside in Maryland. She was born and raised in California, where she worked as an educator, a minister, and a secretary, as well as in retail and department store security. Writing was never her planned vocation, but with varied experiences to draw from, she brings authenticity to her words and worlds.
Her interests include reading, autism, theology, reading, medieval history, and daydreaming. Did she mention reading? She is also the sheepish subscriber to at least three streaming services at home for entertainment and is a fan of podcasts on a variety of subjects. Her favorite hours are before the sun rises and her favorite day of the week is Monday. Yes, she’s serious.
This is such a sweet story! Perfect for a relaxed afternoon or a dreary day.
Liz and Joshua meet on a flight to Chicago and have an instant connection. Joshua doesn’t want to come on too strong, but is pleased to learn they’re on the same connecting flight to Nashville. They eventually exchange contact details and get to texting, with Joshua inviting Liz on two dates, which they both enjoy. Problem is: Liz doesn’t live in Nashville, while Joshua does, and is going home shortly after their second date.
Another complication is that Liz is very apprehensive regarding relationships, since she didn’t have the best example in her parents, to put it mildly, and their abandonment has hurt her deeply. Josh is very understanding, yet also points out that she has a wonderful example in her sister and brother-in-law. For the time being, they decide to be friends, which I think is a great idea in this situation.
Liz is a rather successful screenwriter and Josh is in a well-known country music band. I liked the nod to the Lipstick Outlaws! They share their experiences with fame, although Liz is much less visible in the public eye. They also encourage each other to work on something original, which I thought was a nice way to challenge each other to break out of their comfort zone.
I really enjoyed this story. It’s a quick, easy read full of sweetness without unnecessary drama.
This is the first book that I have read written by Sandi Layne and it certainly won't be the last one. I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end.
Liz is a screenwriter and she met Joshua who is part of a band. The cast of characters are great, enjoyed the story line and couldn't put the book down.
Check out this book I don't think you will be disappointed.
This was such a good clean romance! I just couldn't put it down. Literally took me just a day to read. Sandi really knows how to make you forget the world around you and make you feel that you are apart of the characters lives. You feel like you could call them up and say hey let's hang out together.
