Hello folks, My name is Solomon Carter, and I am the author of the Roberts and Bradley PI crime thriller series, The Last Line international thriller series, the DI Hogarth Darkest series and more. I write mysteries, crime and thriller novels and more besides.
I was born in Southend, Essex and lived there for most of my life apart from eventful student days in South London. But my life in Southend was even more eventful still. I ended up working in a string of jobs including as a jobcentre clerk, a book seller, tutor for youth with low skills and low self esteem, mortgage broker, and latterly manager of a food bank which dealt with all kinds of interesting people facing all kinds of eye-opening, jaw dropping problems. Because of these ear-to-the-ground jobs the majority of my novels are set in Southend. In 2016 I moved to North Cornwall because I liked the idea of never-ending holidays - but I also write almost every single day. My aim is to write action-packed thrillers and page-turning mysteries that readers love and my hope is to get better at what I do with every book across each and every year.
I like to give away lots of free books as part of what I do. If you would like to receive some of these and get the exclusives on offer, than you're invited to join my free readers group at SolomonCarter.net. I won't spam you, just send the occassional email with news on the latest books and forthcoming freebies.

What I am good at: telling stories What I am bad at: dancing, being patient. What I love: nature, the seaside, adventures Writers I heartily recommend: Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Henning Mankell, Val McDermid, Harlan Coben, Robert Crais. Writers I need to read more of: Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly and others. Other things I do beside writing: at present I like to keep my running going to balance out the sitting behind a laptop (a habit inspired by Haruki Murakami's 'What I talk about when I talk about running' - a great book). -I am currently doing surf lessons. When in Rome, as they say... -Getting out into nature as the weather allows.
I look forward to hearing from you. Until then I'll keep on writing. Or running. Or surfing. Or chasing my children around the house.
All the very best, Solomon :)
PS if you have enjoyed any of my books, I'd be honoured if you could post a review. Those reviews really do help!
I'm addicted to Solomon Carter's PI Roberts and Bradley and DI Hogarth series. This one is an Eva Roberts and Dan Bradley case. Kyle Montello is a celebrity artist who became famous a decade or so previously (time scale not specified) with his tableaux involving real sheep's hearts stapled to canvases - which reminded me of an actual artist several decades ago. Today, Kyle is desperately trying to keep his career going, although everyone around him, including himself feels he is washed up, finished. While he drinks, his detractors, a vitriolic art journalist and a representative from a prestigious London gallery continue to criticise him publicly, with only his assistants who believe in him, someone is sending him postcards featuring his past works, with sinister messages written on the back. Eva and Dan investigate together, even with their personal relationship broken. As usual with these mysteries, there are plot twists, red herrings and figures from Kyle's past, until the very unexpected culprit is uncovered. Like all Solomon Carter's books I've read, I was hooked from start to finish and have already nearly finished the next!
I enjoyed this story - the main one that was resolved - and though the one that carries onto another book wasn't, I expected it because this happens in all this author's books. I've also read some out of order so I tend to focus on the main story rather than the background stuff because I like them.
The characters fit well into the plot and the suspense and tension made for a great read.
Worth reading - and maybe one day, I might find out how all the rest of it worked out?
I loved the first book in this Roberts and Bradley crime thriller series which drew me into the complex juggling life of a P.I. There are plenty of twists and turns to grip readers. I became engaged in the lives of the people seeking help and recognised Eva and Dan’s message to help people if you have the chance....I can’t wait to read The Devil Inside.
Good. Will look for others to read. Didn't realise that this was not a first book with these characters but the first of another series but that didn't detract, it happily stands alone albeit with an ending that moves onto the next. The characters fit together well with their own personalities and have obviously progressed along a path from their first outing.
This is the worst book I've read for years. On every page someone is expressing/interpreting someone's feelings with their eyes. There are two stories running through this book, only one is resolved. You need to buy the next book to find out what happens in the second story line, what a con.
This is definitely a before fans of suspense and intrique. This book had action a running story of love lost. If you'll e books full of action and suspense then this is for you.
I finished this book and enjoyed the story. I must say that following the story line was a bit of a challenge at times but I was unable to figure out who was behind that action until the end. I do recommend this author to everyone as he is good at keeping you in the dark until the end.
Three different cases, one resolved. Disappointed that the domestic issue was not cleared as to who really are the wrong and the wronged. This book is quite a change up from the normal mystery genre.
I always enjoy books by Solomon Carter and this was no exception. The story was well thought though and well written keeping me wanting to read more. Like all books, it just depends on what you enjoy. I will certainly read more by this author.
