Eddie Hunter's pretty happy with his stay in Light Online so far. Even with a major raid coming up, he's still making progress on getting his castle built. His business ventures in the game are performing admirably and the testing he's been doing has recently been going quite well.
With other settlements to create, a forest elf town to find, a settlement quest still to finish, and the king's quest beyond that, Eddie's staying busy. Unfortunately, the NPCs in the game are far too much like real people, so treachery and backstabbing are also within their grasp.
Tom Larcombe was introduced to fantasy books at a young age. Those that were aimed more at children hooked him in, but not well enough for him to remember their names at this point in his life. Their draw led him to books aimed more for the adult reader and so he found himself, at around age eight, starting in on the Steven R Donaldson 'Thomas Covenant' series and the Hobbit, followed shortly thereafter by The Lord of the Rings books.
His reading tastes have never looked back, although they have broadened to include science fiction and the occasional non-fiction book.
He lives in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with his wife, two daughters, three cats, and a variable number of chickens.
AD&D w/ the MCs doing character development (NOT just attack type development)!
The 5th & final book? I sure hope not! This is my first actual review of this series. Why you may ask? Because I didn't want to take the time away from reading the next book in the series! (Maybe I'll go back and review the other books when I re-read the series?) Great MCs! Great supporting characters! Great NPCs! Interesting plot that kept evolving! Seriously, I really, really, really like this author & his writing style. I like that the sex is kept low key. I like that the story doesn't run from one fight to another, that he develops the plot. I've already picked up the 1st book in a different series. Keep up the great work TOM, from one original D&D player to another.
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Second, I am not a bot...at least I don’t think I am. Yes this is copy pasta (just learned that term, so fun!) simply because I feel like any book I read deserves acknowledgement but at the same time my feelings on reviews conflict with the normal review process.
I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. If you are a potential reader, just stop reading now and take the above as all you need to know. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
If you are a member of the IAK Guild (thanks, Jason) or part of the review police, feel free to criticize me and challenge my philosophy on reviewing art. I think we all love a good debate. The forums are open and I welcome your comments. I was wrong in my previous request to get you to stop. Your blatant disregard for that request has led to some fun discussions. Growth is important for us all.
Nice gentle continuation of the series. Book is a little slow not as much action. That said there is a lot of empire building and a lot of new activity IRL. The focus in this book is split between the regular MC and other characters. With the other characters starting to take up more and more of the book. Not necessarily a bad thing but It does make a few divergences.I enjoy the series and this was a good filler but certainly not as super exciting book.
This book Light Online book five: Ruler the last in the series. As well as the series it's self. Were totally fantastic to read. Containing great characters and writing as it does. I had a wonderful time reading it. The only. Thing bad about the series. Is that the series is finished. I honestly would have liked to learn. What happens to Eddie and Tiana out side the game once she is healed.
Not a ton of action and only minor conflict but has been a fun journey. There is a good balance between world building, base building and adventuring. Not a lot of exploring and some decent but not too extensive character sheet development. Feels like the basics are set if the author ever decides to write more in the world he has created.
I am going to be honest, this book was not as good as the previous four. It felt a bit rushed trying to tie up some loose ends. The secondary plot line outside the game just didn’t feel as good as it had. We have clarity now regarding that but it seemed to be not as fleshed out.
I am looking forward to seeing what Eddie does next.
Always sad when an arc ends. Really enjoyed the characters and story line and did not realize this was the end of the series until after I had finished it and was very surprised because it seemed like it was still building and had lots more to go. But still a great series!
I wish I had picked this series up earlier. But if I had then I wouldn’t have enjoyed plowing through these books as quickly as I have. These are a fun light hearted series and I’m ready for more or an offshoot of the main story. Keep writing and I’ll keep reading!!!
Fun to finish the adventures in the The Meadowlands, with enough set up to make a potentially interesting series later if the author chooses to come back to this world. Good resolution, nothing left hanging that was promised to be resolved in earlier books. In a lot of ways this was the wrap-up - the real conflict (literal, in this case) ended in the first 25% (or less?) of the book.
I'm torn between being happy at the ending and sad at the end of the series! I truly enjoyed this series! So many wonderful "friends" that are not going to be part of my daily routine anymore. Sigh. I would highly recommend this series. Hmm! Gotta check out the author's other books.
The style of this series stayed consistent, but with a lot of growth in world building (both literal and literary), which made it a very engaging read. I do appreciate how the major plot points were all wrapped up, but now I’m curious to know what they’d do with all they accomplished!
A very enjoyable read! Good, Clean, very well edited text. Great continuation of the series. I enjoyed the dialog between characters and the characters personalities - even the AI's. Seems to be more volumes coming! can't wait!
Nice finish to solid series. A really nice ride on a great slice of life series. Crunchy and solid town building. Good nice npc interactions and outside of game stories as well.
Holy cow there was a lot of subplot in this book! Loved seeing a lot more of what was going on. And now I REALLLLLLY want to know what Vanessa, Lydia and Aaron did that night!!!! Hahaha. Long live the king.
Another interesting book in a great series. It’s fun to watch the gradual progression in character relations including team relations during raids. Individual growth is recorded and nice, but the overall growth of the area is the real story. Recommended (14+)
I really enjoyed this series. Even though it often felt slow paced and slice of life, it was enjoyable to read, I was rooting for the characters, and watching things grow over time was very satisfying.
Still a great book and series but starting to get a little less exciting. The backstory is also getting to be more of a distraction than an addition to the book but to be fair this is still a good and unique series that is way better than the a lot of the litrpg out in the world.
Very enjoyable series. The characters are mostly compelling (or easy to dislike) and the world building is grand. I enjoyed the crafting and skill progressions very much. The overall series is lighter than many LitRPG books, making it very enjoyable and addictive. The writing is fine.
I really enjoyed these 5 books, they were different than I am used to reading. I liked the way he put the enthusiasm into what the characters wanted to do and plan and become. Excellent series.
Well made it through the entire series! Loved it. Series where unlike most other LitRpg ,it ha a really good post of it devoted to the building of a society/ town/structure . As well as the fighting , levelling up ... Overall , highly recommended
Does a good job of being a world builder while having some drama and personal interactions. I like to find out what happens next, which is always a good test.
And the story marches on steadily with the characters growing with experience. There are battles and city building and a coronation. What more can you ask for?
I loved the entire series and Ruler was an excellent ending. I was fully engaged with every book and the characters were great. I have just started the Crow Hill books, and it is looking gooood!!
It was ok. That's the best I can say. I wouldn't have finished if it wasn't supposed to end the series, but it leaves several loose ends. I doubt I'll bother to read any follow up books though.
Another great instalment. Love the interplay between characters and there development. Really looking forward to more books. Can't wait to see what happens next.
