Navarro is a bounty hunter who stumbles upon a woman who has been kidnapped in the wilds of Colorado in 1877. He rescues her and befriends her, but she has enemies, lots of enemies. She talks Navarro into being her bodyguard, and he takes off after her enemies and the result is another exciting novel from the pen of R. O. Lane.
This was an entertaining adventure story that started in the Southwest, shifted to the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Michigan, then ended with an epilogue down in Matamoros, Mexico and south Texas. Fast paced with plenty of action, part western & part detective novel, it was a fun read.
A Knight with Honour in a savage land is Navarro. Son of a Mexican mother and an American father, he grew to manhood along the Border developing skills, personal integrity, and a tough hide in the years following the Civil War. Having tracked a murderous trio across South Texas bringing them to justice, he answers a silent and mysterious call that draws him to the adventure of his life time. A kidnapped young woman nearly kills Navarro before he answers that call which leads him (and her) from the mining town of Ouray, Colorado to the Toledo, Ohio headquarters of a successful Great Lakes shipping firm. Violence and danger dog their trail and betrayals are the order of the day before multiple villains are brought to justice in this tale (and trail) which satisfyingly takes the reader from Matamorros to the Rockies, to Lake Erie and from Wisconsin to Missouri to New Orleans and finally back to South Texas. Author R. O. Lane crafts an exciting and enjoyable story which will keep you turning the pages in anticipation. Read Navarro and take an enjoyable trip back in time to a land you thought you knew.
Navarro was a bounty hunter who happened on a young woman who had been kidnapped and sexually abused by three brothers. He kills the brothers and takes Rena home. But her troubles are not over because her 2 step brothers had paid someone to get rid of her. Navarro saves her life twice and almost loses his when he is shot 7 times. There is action, excitement, racism, and romance in this well written story. I enjoyed it very much.?
This book was especially enjoyable for me, Mr. Lane...I was brought up in the harsh winters of upstate NY, live on Whidbey Island, WA , now....but I've experienced the frozen edges of Lake Ontario and have had to snowshoe into remote areas many times, snowmobile, too.....my whole family is made up of excellent rifle, pistol, revolver and shotgun shots....our family owned a lighthouse on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario, maybe you could bring a lighthouse in to one of your novels ....keep up the good work ! I am at scotshot1@att.net if you'd like some help with the Selkirk lighthouse.....
Like all of R.O. Land's books, this is very well written and uses real sites and lets the reader "travel" through the West as the story unfolds. Like Louis glamour, you can really get a feel for the West. I have read all of his books and eagerly await the next book!
I don't understand these rave reviews. I could hardly get through this book. The writing was amateurish, the plot completely predictable and cumbersome and to call the dialogue stilted would be to over-praise it. I wish I had skipped this one - obviously.
Seriously flawed. She is the daughter and sole heir of a deceased multi millionaire. When she decides to take a cross country tour does she line up a ladies maid or traveling companion. A body guard. An experienced travel guide. Nope. She has a friend of her stepmother who is an old drunk travel with her. The old drunk aka hired killer flubs his job. He sells her to three shabby brothers living in a shack for $1000 . That right 1000 bukeroos. Where they would get that kind of money or why they would spend it on a woman sight unseen even if they do get to rape and kill her is not explained. Maybe they were new to the whole degenerate creep/rapist thing and thought that was the going rate. All this in the first few chapters. Enter the hero. Juan Navarro who was actually born Robert Kline. Don't ask. The story and the characters dont add up . I'm an R.O. fan but this one bombed for me.

5 STARS for this intense & savage storyline that tells the tale undoubtedly of the fate of more than one young woman in this time period. We know that because of how men without morals or empathy who didn't care thought nothing about raping farmer's wives & young daughters after killing the husband & father then either leaving them beat & bruised without food or dead. They thought nothing about being foul mouthed to any women anywhere.
This storyline reminds us of that bit of horror & dishonor & further discusses prejudice. How some people's lives are not considered valuable. Don't miss out on this page turner.
This book was a pleasure to read. It is a great story, quite believable even if it is fiction. What I enjoyed most was that Mr. Lane, the author, told an entertaining and exciting story without vulgarity or explicit sexual scenes. That in itself is so refreshing. As adults we can read between the lines without the need for verbal descriptions and that is hard to find now days. Thank you R.O. Lane for an excellent PG rated story. I could hardly put it down and look forward to a sequel, hopefully!
I especially loved this book ,the location on Lake erie and lake Michigan are very familiar to me as I have spent many years living on both shores. I have read almost all of your books but I really enjoyed this one ,keep writing your wonderful stories I enjoy them and pass the word to all of my friends at book club. During this past year all there is to do is watch TV or read, I have read over 100 books.
Irecommed this book to anybody that likes this kind of book. The reason I choose this rating is the book keeps moving along with the story l have read all of your books and I re
Enjoy them. Can't wait for the next one.what will the next book be able to come out. Yours truly Bob MILLS
Another great western book by a great western writer.
I don't know how you keep writing such great western books. You keep surprising me with every book. Don't every stop writing, you are a true , died in the wool, western writer to the extreme. You keep writing, and as I've said before, I'll reading. Thank you.
Excellent story of half Mexican hero and the woman he saves.
Great story of courage, strength, justice, fairness, and discernment. Navarro is looked down upon for his heritage and a scar an Comanche brave have him on his face. He does what it takes for peace to prevail. Highly recommended for all readers.
Surprising joy to read this book - one day on Kindle at SBI. Old style Western. Bounty hunter/body guard/mellow husband, Navarro, and his ultimate love interest, Rena, have plenty of issues to keep plot moving. I enjoyed straight forward and succinct writing which seemed to me to match time and place of story.
A good Western novel. The elements were all there, a larger-than-life hero, a beautiful rich female victim, exciting encounters, and chases. The contrast between East and West in the late 1800s. In addition, there was a great ending, I couldn't ask for more I look forward to reading other R.O. Lane Western novels.
Mr. Lane writes a cohesive, entrancing story about the wars real man would have dealt with any problems he faced in the 1870's West, or as this story ran, up into the Mieast Great Lakes' shores. Mr. Lane is an excellent craftsman and fully rounds out each of his character's personalities to the point that they seem to step off the page into real life.
This is an excellent story of the kind of man every woman wants. He saves her from her captors and brings them to justice. All of the books by this author are definitely worth reading (and re-reading).
Most western novels I've been reading, have the main woman character as flawed in one way or another, (but it is never her fault) and the hero is just perfect in every way. If I ever write one, the hero will have my faults, because I know them so well.
This guy is good so I’ve got somebody else to keep me company through this lousy pandemic honestly these books are my lifeline without them I would have gone crazy so thank you people you done good
Having read several of Mr. Lanes novels before I wasn't surprised at this great read!
This novel was one of the best I have read! I usually can figure out the conclusion early on but not so this time. I would recommend this novel to anyone! I
I liked how book kept your attention through out the entire book. The main characters were down to earth and remained as such rather than super hero's. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good western
This story was filled with thrills and spills. Hard to put down. I loved the caring way that the Hispanic culture was brought in. Great writing. Bravo,
I very much enjoyed this story. I found it interesting that more than 100 years ago there was a communication system to track criminals. I enjoy westerns and plan to read more books by. R.O. Lane
I loved reading this book very hard to put down every page was interesting and exciting to read, something always happening,I love stories like this. I recommend this book to all western fans. R.O.Lane is a very good writer, I have enjoyed all his books.
I enjoyed this book very much . It was full of excitement and just fun to read ,it had a little romance as well . All and all I think R.O. Lane is a really great writter.
This wonderful story is exactly what I have come to expect from the author. Great storylines with plenty of action with enough romance to keep you entertained. I can't get enough of R.O Lane's writing as I am definitely a fan.
Another great read by R. O. Lane. I picked this one up and couldn't put it down. Good thing I'm retired and don't have to get up for work in the morning!!! Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
I really enjoy this author's writing, and this one was another incredible story! A good storyline which captures your interest in a hurry! The sad part, I'm reading these books way too fast!
This will hold your interest from the very first page. Fast paced action makes this book fly by to the point that you can’t put it down. Definitely a very interesting book with many twists.
