After splitting up from the young bounty hunter, John Smith, Jess is on the hunt for Malcomb Ruel, which takes him to Muncie, Texas. While in Muncie, he discovers that since passing through the town of Kearny they hired a marshal, but he was gunned down hours after he took the job. He then hunts the two men who killed the marshal and returns to Kearny to let them know the men responsible have paid the price.
While there, he receives a request from United States Marshal Frank Reedy, telling him to meet him and John Bodine in the town of Calcutta, where five men have robbed the bank, killed two deputies and wounded the marshal, an old friend of both Bodine and Reedy.
While in Calcutta, Wildcat shows up looking for the elusive killer, Noah Cain. Jess promises to help Wildcat catch Cain if she helps them chase down the five robbers.
Jess, Reedy, Bodine and Wildcat team up together, and they hunt down the robbers. With these four on your trail, your odds of escaping aren’t good. The hunt begins. Lead flies and men die, but will justice be done in the end?

The 100 th of the series. I've been reading the Jess Williams tales for seven years.
Jess, Reedy, Bodine and Wildcat are looking for the outlaws that robbed the bank in Calcutta. Wildcat is looking for her own bounty. I'm not really a fan of the character Wildcat. But in this one she was more annoying than usual. Reedy and Bodine are their usual unflappable selves.
Congratulations on your 100th western. Have enjoyed all as they are relatively sex free. You always present a good plot, Jess with the help of others rid the west of the worst killers. It takes a lot of imagination to achieve 100 editions. I will continue to follow if you continue. The on!y compliment you receive sometimes is if they renew there subscription!

Thank you Robert J Thompson for all these great 😊 books on Jess Williams, I have read every one of them. I sure hope you have a lot more to write. You keep them coming and I will keep reading them.
They all have been great. Great characters and stories filled with adventures with bad men getting their justice and dying at the hands of Jess and his friends.
Oh please! Jess, Bodine and Reedy can't catch the bad guys without help from the ditzy but strikingly beautiful and always annoying Wildcat. Gag me with a spoon.
