Could your gap year crew survive the apocalypse? In the Aussie outback? With monsters, magic and RPG rules?
Keat brought three things to the Aussie mana apocalypse... 1) His trusty BBQ fork (+15 damage). 2) A giant wombat 3) A group of mates he hadn’t seen since high school.
Australia already had the world's ten most poisonous snakes, crocodiles, and sharks. Then the monsters showed up. Isolated in the Aussie outback with his best mate Nugget, Nugget's sister Mel (who he definitely did not have a thing with), Mel's new latte-sipping boyfriend, and a British backpacker, why isn’t Keat panicked?
Because Keat’s a gamer.
And every gamer knows, there’s always a way to power level. (also...because he has a giant wombat).
You’ll love this LitRPG Western, set in the Australian Outback, because it reminds us how people change on a gap year, and because it takes the piss. Get it now.

A good example of the genre and a solid book overall; the MC is sensible and reasonably capable without being OP. Didn't quite push it into 5 star territory, but I'll be reading the next one when it comes out.
One quibble: set your grammar checker to catch unnecessary apostrophes in plurals; a common problem these days, but still an avoidable flaw.
A few times the narrative disagreed with itself (stats on subsequent pages being different for no reason). Things move at a very brisk pace and the characters don’t develop much.
But.
It’s a rollicking good time.
I read this in KU, but I’m going to go back and buy it. I look forward to a sequel.
This is really to short to be called a book. It lacks detail and tends to jump about. Class changes and skills are pulled out of thin air as needed. Characters are not worth noting as the MC is the only one able to do anything. This was poorly done, but could have been really good if detail had been added. As is it feels choppy and rushed.
I read the first two books within 24 hours, but I did enjoy them. I get the feeling of LitRPG with young adult genre thrown in. There's a'bit of humor and wit in the story. I feel as if I learned a little more about Aussie culture than what I knew before; basically nothing =) I enjoy discovering new worlds that an author creates and the litrpg systems they employ. I look forward to the next book in the series.
This book was excellent. It was a good combination of LitRPG and a regular adventure. The characters were well written and likable (the ones that were meant to be likable anyway) and I like the idea that no matter what people's talents they have a tailored class and abilities. I'm not gonna lie, if I didn't regularly listen to an Australian podcast I would have been totally lost with the slang, but it served to set the the story in it's environment perfectly.
Great and quick story about friendship and survival. I enjoyed the authors take on litrpg genre, from the creative class names to world/ game building. The Australian outback is filled with so much deadly and weird wildlife I can't to see what this amazing author does with it. Im hoping someone will gets a pet platypus or riding mounts like ostriches (chocobos) and kangaroos! I'm also hope the author includes the Aboriginal Australians and really show case how diverse Australia is.
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Second, I am not a bot...at least I don’t think I am. Yes this is copy pasta (just learned that term, so fun!) simply because I feel like any book I read deserves acknowledgement but at the same time my feelings on reviews conflict with the normal review process.
I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. If you are a potential reader, just stop reading now and take the above as all you need to know. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
If you are a member of the IAK Guild (thanks, Jason) or part of the review police, feel free to criticize me and challenge my philosophy on reviewing art. I think we all love a good debate. The forums are open and I welcome your comments. I was wrong in my previous request to get you to stop. Your blatant disregard for that request has led to some fun discussions. Growth is important for us all.
I listened to this on audio and loved it. Being an Australian myself the book got me right ‘in the feels’. It is a cracker of a yarn with a bunch of hilarious references and that typical Aussie humor. The characters were simple and fairly uncomplicated but that was the point I think - to focus on the RPG aspect and basic silliness and humor. But still really well written. If you want to experience Australian humor and have an RPG bent then this book/series will fit the bill. She’s a little ripper
This book was ok, but was written to be a bit silly. Everything about it was a bit ridiculous and it was too short to truly judge as a series.
The main character is a bit of an idiot who makes poor decisions. I am not sure if that was intended or an accident, but everything is done with little thinking involved. It gives off more of an action adventure vibe than a progression litrpg fantasy. It actually kind of reminds me of Critical Failure's by Robert Bevan(the writing style, not the plot)
I will most likely continue to read the series once more books come out, I am skipping book 2 until I at least have 4 or 5 more books.
I throughly enjoyed this book. I listened to the audible version rather than reading it. The narration was excellent with different accents, animal noises and sound effects. As well as being a Lit RPG novel it is a cross between science fiction fantasy and comedy. The characters a very amusing and well named. I don’t want to give anything away but I like Dan and Ned Skelly. Do yourself a favour get a snack from Deb’s Dellie. (If it is still open)
Audiobook: This was my first experience with Christopher Timms' work, and I enjoyed it. The tale was funny; there were laugh-out-loud moments, over-the-top bits, and some bathroom humor. I'm looking forward to more from this author. Chris Miller's narration was great. His performance was a joy to listen to and added layers to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
The Slang can be hard to wrap a head around if you're not familer but it's easy to get the gist if not the full context lol a solid read, entertaining and it was quick so I can keep up my reading with all the others. This book made it in lto my queue and has solidified that
The only thing really special and unique about this book is that it takes place in Australia. Cast is alright, dialogue is bland and the plot is incredibly fast paced, how can it not be at only 139 pages? Won’t be picking up the next book but I can see the intrigue, I really only started it because of the Apocalypse setting and that’s exactly what I got, same tropes and everything.
This was a fun book. A total piss take on the Aussie stereotype while also being quite a good lit rpg. Worth a read, would be good if it was longer but at least the second book is out
I listened to the first three volumes of the Aussie Mana Apocalypse as audiobooks. I was crying laughing the entire series! Some of the best books I’ve read in over a decade. The author's humor and comedic timing is impeccable. The voice narrator had sound effects that were remarkable!
Good times reading this, though it does have a fair bit of regional slang native to Australia. That should be a given, though, considering the title. Give it a go!
Interesting characters, great first person perspective. You feel complications building that the main character isn't aware of. Interesting classes and skills.
