Rate this book
Miss Eliza Moore has fallen.

Once a pursued heiress, now she's far worse than the poor relation—vicious rumors have caused her to be cast out onto the streets.

Lord Daniel Ashton has been in love with Eliza since his youth. When he learns she has been ruined, he races to save her by offering his hand in marriage.

Eliza agrees to the marriage only to thwart the machinations of a lecherous villain. She doesn't trust anyone with her heart, not even a man with kind eyes and strong arms who claims to love her beyond reason.

Will Daniel be able to help Eliza feel safe again after the betrayals of her life? Is he doomed to forever love his wife, but to never receive her love in return?

Beneath Spring's Rain is a clean Regency romance with a threatening villain and closed-door intimacy between a married couple. Join Eliza and Daniel in their journey to happiness together.

I so enjoyed this story! A little danger, a little desperation and a lot of romance:} I think I really like the whole idea of the guy totally in love with the girl and he tries to win her over! I thought Rebecca did a really good job of making this very real. This is a real situation and these people handle it in a very real way. I had to love Eliza she acts in a very true to human nature way, at one point I was irritated with her but I had to take a step back and think I probably would have acted the same way. Daniel is just awesome and amazing and I loved him:}
There is talk of closed door intimacy. Lots of yummy kisses and good tension. If you like your book squeaky clean with only one kiss at the end this might not be your thing. There is talk of prostitution.

I couldn't imagine being a young lady back in the Regency time period. Yes, I dream about it and have fantasized about living then. But let's be honest here, in all reality, a lot of the rules and restrictions for them were hard. Maybe I should clarify a little. The rules and restrictions were good for protecting the girls but at the same time society and those rules could be absolutely brutal.

Eliza finds herself ruined through the whisperings of society due to an unexpected kiss. How could this have happened to her? With no family or friends to turn to she finds herself seeking refuge at the Magdalen house for ruined girls. With this villainous man pursuing and seeking her out she hopes to stay hidden from him.

Daniel and Eliza have known each other since they were children. He has loved and admired her from afar. Eliza on the other hand doesn't remember too much about him. When their paths cross as Daniel seeks her out to rescue her from her current circumstances, she finds he is her only option of rescue.

This was a sweet love story. If you're reading it and find Eliza's back and forth emotions interesting, just think of her as having come out of a horrible situation and having shock or PTSD from it. It would not be easy to trust another man after her pursuer's actions. But Daniel was so patient and gentle with her. I loved how he showed her how a gentleman truly was and that his love for her was real and continuing to grow. Their sweet budding friendship and love was enjoyable to read.

And of course I've mentioned this villainous character a few times but will let you read and figure out more about him. On top of him there's some family drama and a lot of family support on Daniel's side. I cannot wait to read the next book in this story. I'm really hoping it'll be Frederick's story (Daniel's brother). And Cassandra having her own story would be wonderful too (and the other siblings). This family was great.

Content: Clean. There are a few innuendos throughout the story but nothing graphic. The villainous character talks about his mistress and indiscretion but it isn't in detail and graphic. There is also kissing and behind closed door scenes of a married couple. There is also no detail with the married couple.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

A fast-paced and clean romance with lots of heart. This author understands the Regency world, along with its idiosyncrasies and rules.

In a nutshell: Daniel has had a puppy-love crush on Eliza since they were teenagers. He goes off to war. Life goes on. Bonaparte is defeated and Daniel comes home to find that Eliza is not married (huzzah!) but she finds herself in a ruined situation because she was caught kissing a married man. (She didn’t know he was married and he had forced the kiss on her.)
Daniel offers to marry Eliza in order to save her reputation.

This book had a lot of soul-searching as the characters have to learn to grow together. Daniel has to be patient and Eliza needs time to heal from a traumatic event. For a while I thought she was just playing mine games with Daniel, but once I realized Eliza had PTSD, I realized she had to process that information before she could move on and open herself to loving anyone. The author does a great job of taking the reader through this process right along with the characters.

Fun, witty banter, with a little bit of mystery and a teensy plot twist to keep the story moving.
We are introduced to Daniel’s siblings and I am looking forward to more books in this series!

**p.s. If you have not read ‘The Darkest Summer’ run to the bookstore or click on over to purchase the e-book. You won’t be disappointed! It’s one of the most creative Persephone/Hades retellings I have ever read!

This was a charming read! I loved watching the romance develop between Eliza and Daniel. Additionally, the story's timeline was done really well. There were two different ones in the beginning but they really enhanced the flow.

Overall, I really enjoyed this tale! I loved how it slightly twisted the "marriage of convenience" trope by having one half of the main couple be in love and the other be a little more than indifferent. It was also refreshing seeing the male lead, Daniel, be head-over-heels, instead of the typical female lead.

I'm extremely grateful to the author, Rebecca J. Greenwood, for giving me an ARC of this novel. I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of this cast of characters! (Especially Cassandra Ashton and Major Thomas Yarrow, as well as, Florentia and Frederick's tales)

Beautifully written story with heart! Daniel and Eliza are wonderful characters, who struggle to come to terms with what has befallen Eliza. So much soul-searching occurs throughout the book and at times it is, as Daniel says “one step forward and two steps back”. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it to Regency romance lovers everywhere. I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This was quite an intriguing story for me. Marriages of convenience is not my favourite trope, I have to admit, but without giving too much away, this isn’t your typical marriage of convenience.

I truly enjoyed the level of suspense that the author was able to maintain throughout the story as well as the overall character development. I also found the historical aspects of the book interesting and appreciated the amount of effort and research went into this book.

This is a hard book to label as 100% clean and wholesome since the whole book is centred around a woman’s reputation being ruined (albeit falsely) and there are innuendos and situations involving mistresses and mentions of affairs etc. but they are not featured/described in any detail. So in this regard, I can deem this as a clean read.

As I said, the character development was well done. I liked how the heroine is such a strong individual despite the difficulties that she is faced with. She isn’t a “fit of vapours” or “wilting flower” type.

As for the hero... well what can I say? If I list exactly what I like about him I’ll give spoilers away haha
I suppose as far as personality is concerned though, I liked how throughout the story he is genuinely (and consistently) caring and generous.

For anyone who enjoys reading clean regency era romance that just leaves you wanting more (thankfully this is book one of the series!) then I can happily recommend this book to you 😊

I received an arc of this book from the author however this in no way influenced my opinion and I am under no obligation to leave this review.

This would have to be the most beautifully told love story I have ever read. The characters are magnificent in their coldness, rage, dishonour and especially standing up for truth and what is good and right. A completely clean book that swept me off my feet. Oh to be loved like that! I was enthralled with the rawness of all of the emotions. Thoroughly enjoyable.

A very touching love story

This is an angst ridden story of betrayal and redemption. The writing is poignant and often tender, and leavened with humour. Eliza’s slow healing from trauma shows her inner strength and resilience as Daniel’s patient wooing deepens his adolescent tendre for Eliza to a mature and steadfast love. The characters are well drawn, their motivation and emotions explored with almost forensic detail. Recommended. Triggers: sexual harassment, familial betrayal, verbal abuse

This story is probably more of a 2.5 rating for me but I rated it up for being well written and interesting enough to finish. For me personally, I didn't find the romance compelling and the story dragged out in the middle. I found it a little too dramatic and not enough substance but I did finish it so I felt it was good enough to continue to the end.

Content:
Sexual: kissing only
Violence: none
Language: none

A lot of action and rumors that need to be corrected as this couple marry under awkward circumstances. Our hero loves his wife, Eliza, although she only marries him because she is caught in a difficult situation. Still, over time and learning more of her husband she comes to see him for the hero he is.

Interesting read

Eliza was not my favorite character at first because she was so cold towards a man who loved her unconditionally. Yes, she had been mistreated by her family, but she was not a forgiving or trusting person. I am glad she finally accepted the love that Daniel offered .

This was very enjoyable and a quick read. Daniel was probably my favorite character. He was so selfless and quite the hero to give up so much to save the woman he loved (with no promise of love in return). I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed reading this book! A young woman, not knowing he was married, kissed a man. For this, she was ostracised and ended up in a place for women who had no place to go. Then, enter her savior----I recommend this book to everyone who loves a good romance!

Enjoyable read

I gave it 4 stars because even though it was a good story it seamed like it lasted forever. I finished this book because it had a good story line. I think it could have been shortened and still been enjoyable.

Eliza not my favorite

I struggled a lot with this book because I truly did not enjoy the main character. She was just so selfish! The writing was fantastic and the story line was solid.

So, true love conquers all! Eventually

Of course I read book 2 before book 1, but it was still a very compelling story. Wonderful characters and storyline. I can’t wait for book 3!

Just ok

Well written & entertaining. I just did not like Eliza. She was too irrational and wishy-washy. She got her HEA but by then I was so done with her snits & teasing manner I didn't care.

I gave this book five stars for being so realistic. The romance is messy, heartbreaking, and intense, yet the reward for Eliza and Daniel is worth the difficulty.

Very sweet regency romance involving a patient man who adores a traumatized wife. The mystery surrounding her ruin was intriguing and the historical accuracy was welcomed.

A Matter Of Honor. A Matter Of Love.
Lies, disgrace and a lecherous Earl. A Captain, marriage and a love strong enough for two. A complex scheme to steal a dowry, becomes a bed of lies. The one truth is the love of the Captain for the lady of his heart. Started as a four star book and ended as a five. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book gifted by the author.

Project ruination

Eliza is a trip! I have read thousands of historical romances and never read such a bitter, angry obnoxious, ungrateful shrew in my life! She is not beautiful on the inside at all! She is unrealistic, self serving and unwilling to face the huge obvious facts of her family obvious hatred! Daniel is honorable, handsome, loyal and loving and survived wars! How Daniel survived a war and married this... I can't fathom!
Yes Eliza was set up by her family and dishonored and thrown out of their home. Daniel came to rescue, honor and love her and all she did for 80% of this story was shine about her all about her losses and her life!!!!
Daniel even confessed how staying in the military for her sake so they could survive tore at his soul..she still didn't want the public display and what "people" would say to lessen his burden of finances and get his due which was her dowry! Ughh this author is new to me!
Eliza is actually 1 star the others are for Daniel! She was so nasty I almost didn't finish!!
