I'm a middle-aged woman who works in insurance, doesn't have children or pets, can't drive, has lived in Christchurch my entire life, and currently reside a two-minute walk from where I was born.
For some reason, I've developed a rich fantasy life.
I like to write mysteries, some set in my hometown of Christchurch, others ninety minutes up the road in the beautiful township of Hanmer Springs, or in the quasi-fictional town of Pinetar. These mysteries range from hard-hitting psychological thrillers, through to police procedurals, or the lighter adventure of a cozy mystery.
Like small towns and murders and cats enjoy every ome of these books
This is two small towns close to Christ Church both bring richness in family and friends and redemption in life that has failed in the past. The stories are fresh and full of real life just asking you to join in and stay through the bad times and murders that come up all to often for the people involved. Help find the killer before anyone else gets dragged into the plot. Stick around well worth it. Grwat stories great olots real life.
I enjoyed reading these cases - the settings, characters, and storylines. Quite intense relationship and family issues, but at least Holly communicates versus just running. I do however think she should have eventually offered to bring Esmeralda into the business and acknowledge her ownership of the recipes - that would be a win-win situation, yes? :-)
The two story sets are different from each other and both progress in a delightful set of intrigue. Could there be more to the stories, yes. But each is a delightful read that pulls you along with no friction. Can you figure out The Who and why before the last page?
I liked the storylines and characters in these books but what I didn't like was the amount of errors in these books. I am not sure who is editing them but they do not have an understanding of the English language. It is very distracting when ready a book to have to reread parts simply due to bad editing. I would love to edit these to make them easier reads.
A great who done it mystery that doesn't seem to stop!
Every were this girl goes she finds a body! Her & her sister own a bakery shop from her dad who passed & the recipes have a secret & they get stolen. There's a wedding, a soup kitchen, a hair salon, and more muder!!!!!!!! A sister gets arrested what a mess! Good read for young kids but moms check first!
There are twelve books in all....the first six regarding tea and how a teashop becomes a part of the towns newest business, only to find that each one has a murder mystery attached to each story. Great writing and I loved each story. The last six books are regarding cupcakes and again a murder mystery involves each story line. This set keep me wanting more. Great job Katherine Hayton
This 12 book Cozy Mystery was an average read overall. It didn't keep me interested in the whole plot of the series. If you like slow stories, then this is the series to read.
If you're looking for recipes in this set you'll be disappointed. The set of twelve books is divided into two stories. Each one has some eccentric characters. In the first set I found the supporting characters more interesting and the editing could use some work. The second set was more interesting to me but, was a bit in the weeds when it came to the personal relationship of the sisters. One reader said she thought they were set in the USA, however; there was a specific sentence that mentioned New Zealand. It was really hard to place them because the dialect jumped around and the description of the land/towns was not quite USA.
I have just binge read through these books. Thoroughly enjoying every moment. If you want a nice comfortable mystery this is it. You get caught up in the chats and their lives. You won't be disappointed.
A truly enjoyable collection of stories. The characters are likeable and very good story line. The mystery is not predictable therefore more fun to read!
Small town amateur sleuths help solve crimes. Leaving her job as an attorney and her ex husband in Christchurch New Zealand, Holly joins her sister in a small town. Can they save the bakery? Who tried to murder the bridegroom? So many mysteries!
The problem with collections is, for example this one, I liked the first section well enough with Marjorie and Hammer Springs, but the cupcake ones after we're bland, nonsensical, even ridiculous in too many places, with a school of red herring that seldom made sense, plus the so called relationships that were ridiculously juvenile and unbelievable. So the rating is 5 for the first part but 3 for the rest. If I had realized the second part was so disappointing, I would have looked to see if first part was in collection of own, since is easier to read that way, well listen since use voice because legally blind, but still noticed typos and issues.
