The rules at Broken Hearts Ranch are pretty simple: no romance between staff and visitors. Ryan Prosper, rodeo has-been and ranch manager, hasn’t had a problem with that. His sister runs the therapy side of the place while he handles the ranch itself, and the balance has worked well. But when Talia James shows up for her turn at the retreat, things get a little more challenging.
Talia needs this therapeutic retreat badly, and hopes that it will be just what she needs to get unstuck after her tragic loss. The charming cowboy brother of her new therapist is a ray of sunshine she hadn’t anticipated, and spending time with him seems to do as much good as her sessions. But is her still broken heart ready for romance, and does she really have the heart to resist him?

Lost Creek Rodeo Series: Round Up Chute Boss Rough Stock Full Rigged Half Hitch Ace High
I was born once upon a time, and I started making up stories right away. Eventually, I started writing them down, and never stopped! I have a day job, which gets in the way of my writing, but it pays the bills so I CAN write, so I guess that's okay! I am a bookworm, which I think is key to being a writer, and I am always looking for inspiration! I live in Indiana, am obsessed with hot chocolate, and I am on track to be the best aunt in the world.
Can I just say that I've been so excited about these books since these three authors announced what their next project would be. Rodeo Cowboys! Woot Woot! In case you don't know, this is the third series that these three authors have written together. The first was The Belltown Six Pack (Baseball). The second was the Northbrook Elite (Hockey). And now Rodeo Cowboys. And it was awesome seeing several of those characters from those books show up in this series and their connection to the main character, Talia.
It was so fun to dive into Round Up and discover that it is set in the town in Texas. If you've also been a fan/reader of Heather B. Moore's books (one of the authors writing in this series), you'll notice that she wrote a trilogy also set in the same small town, and if you've read those books you'll recognize a couple characters.
But for those of you who haven't read or know anything about those previous books, no worries. You'll be able to enjoy this one just fine. It's just fun for readers who know those previous books and characters. I think most everyone yelled out someone's name when they came across it...Grizz! Am I right? ;-)
This first book does a lot to set up this group of friends who were Rodeo stars together in college and are just reuniting. I'm so excited to see more of them all throughout the series. In the previous series, these characters were such great friends with each other and constantly having each other's backs. I love reading books that have those good relationships in them.
The book isn't all sunshine and roses though. There is heartache and loss. And I feel for these characters. At Broken Hearts Ranch, women are offered a refuge, a place to go to heal. Talia needs that. She has had a major loss in her life and she is just going through the motions of life. I loved how the author touched on those emotions. The struggle and sorrow and heartache was real and raw and the friends and family were so good at offering support without brushing aside or dismissing the struggle Talia was experiencing. Then I loved her journey of healing and coming to realize what some of the pain was that was holding her bound. It was a sweet and tender part of the story. I loved Kelly and Ryan, these two siblings were so great. I can't wait to read more about these Rodeo cowboys and the women who are coming to this ranch for help and healing.
Ryan and Talia were just so cute! I loved them together. I loved their support for each other and their offering a safe place with no expectations or demands for the other's healing. And as that healing started happening it was so tender. Even with the slightly more somber nature of this story, there was still joy and laughter and fun. I loved the balance the author was able to create!
Content: Clean. *****Spoiler*****This book deals with depression and loss of a child******END SPOILER******
I received a copy from one of the authors. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I think this is the third series that these three authors have written together. Baseball first. Then hockey. Now cowboys. It's some fun stuff! I loved how a couple characters from those previous books made an appearance in this book. The community and family is growing!
Ryan Prosper must be the sweetest man ever. He is kind, perceptive, and genuinely wants to support and help Talia. He says and does the sweetest things. That's my adjective for Ryan. Sweet. I loved how his own hurts and insecurities lessened as he helped Talia with hers. There is strength and healing in sharing and helping.
You can't help but feel for Talia. Her loss is great and overwhelming. I can't even imagine. It was so good to see her find some peace and healing and yes, love as she and sweet Ryan connect.
This was a good introduction book and set things up nicely for the books to follow. I sure do love a good cowboy story!
Content: mild swearing, kissing, mention of teenage pregnancy
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
I may have squealed out loud when I realized that this new sports series has some connections to both the Belltown Six Pack AND the Northbrook Hockey Elite series! And add to that, there's also a connection to the Prosperity Ranch series--I think I've died and gone to heaven. I'm so excited for the rodeo setting and the dashing cowboys that come with it, and this one was the perfect introduction to the series and its characters.
Some people deal with so much hurt and pain and I was overjoyed that Talia was able to find peace and healing at the Broken Heart Ranch. Talia is a resilient character. Although she has obvious grief, her positive attitude and determination to heal were very endearing. Ryan Prosper was written in a way that "speaks of a country song" and caused me to visualize the perfectly imperfect cowboy--all sinewy muscles and gentlemanly manners, with a hint of roughness.
These characters and the plot they found themselves in was well-written. I really enjoyed the way this story came together, and although the romance was a little on the fast side, it felt authentic and was delightfully swoony. Bring on the rest of the crew--I'm ready!
Content: mild+ romance (non-descriptive talk of teen pregnancy, kissing); mild+ language (6-8 Bible swears); very mild violence (talk of rodeo injuries)
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
This book was so much more than I expected! I love that the Broken Hearts Ranch therapy retreat is as much a major theme as the rodeo, if not more so. Ryan is no longer able to ride in the rodeo, and is still struggling with the idea of being involved in any other capacity as he grieves his loss. Talia's loss of her son is so heartbreaking and it was inspiring to see the progress she makes after being stuck in the fog of grief for so long. Ryan's sister Kellie is a wonderful advocate and provides support as Talia balances a blossoming romance while doing some heavy work on herself and looks to rebuild her life. Ryan is a light in her life and I admired the way he was there for Talia in whatever capacity she needed him. I felt like the joy she finds as she chooses to face her feelings and come to life again is an example to Ryan with his own issues, and the happy ending is full of hope. Excited to read more in the series!

I've read the other swoony sport romance series (baseball with the Six Pack, hockey with Northbrook Hockey). I was excited to see a new series being released. Off the three sports, I know the least about rodeo. The basics were explained in a way that felt natural, and didn't leave the reader feeling like an idiot.
This story revolved around Broken Hearts Ranch. Talia James has gone there to heal after the death of her son. Ryan Prosper runs the ranch with his sister. He does the ranching, she does the counseling and camps for women who need a chance to work and heal. The first rule for the ranch hands, is leave the guests alone! Ryan doesn't start out trying to date Talia, but he is drawn to helping ease her pain in any way he can.
I wasn't sure at the beginning how Rebecca Connolly would pull of a romance in these circumstances, but she did it with her usual flair. Ryan was gentle, and the romance was slow burning. I loved the growth that both Talia and Ryan experienced. This story was deep, heart wrenching, funny, and sweet. I can't wait to see what happens next with this loyal group of men.
Content: clean (some kissing, no violence, mild language, loss of a child)
I love the sports romances written by the authors of the Swoony Sports Romance Facebook page. This series features rodeo. And I’m really excited to read them all.
I loved Talia. She’s just lost in the brain fog from when her son died. And it makes everything in her life hard. That’s when she finds Broken Hearts Ranch. It’s a therapeutic ranch set up for women to go, have some therapy, and work out their troubles while working on the ranch. What a great idea! I loved the way Talia was able to grow through the story. She had plenty of help from Kellie, the owner of the ranch. But also from her brother Ryan as well.
I loved the lengths Ryan was willing to go through to help Talia move beyond her grief. And that was even before he actually knew what her grief was coming from. He’s just a great guy. And he’s where the rodeo part comes in. He wants to save the Lost Creek Rodeo that seems to be having problems, so he brings his rodeo friends.
One of my favorite things about this one were the cameos from Grizz and Clint. I love seeing characters again from books I’ve loved.
Reading more of this series is on my list of goals! Next up, Chute Boss.
I was sent an e-copy of Round Up as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
I loved this first book in this new series from Rebecca Connolly, Heather Moore and Sophia Summers! I loved how they wrote about Rodeo and the excitement surrounding it and how they described the events. I also loved the idea of a ranch for healing broken hearts. I loved the romance between Ryan and Talia. I loved how they both needed to heal and how they could rely on each other as they worked through that process. I also loved that we saw other characters from the authors other sport romance series. I also loved the other guys in this book who will get their own story in the next books. I can’t wait to read the rest of this fun series!
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
The Swoony Sports authors have done it again!! First it was baseball, then hockey. Now it's cowboys and rodeos! What a great start to a new series.
I loved Ryan and Talia. They were both dealing with major losses in their lives, and although their loses were completely different, they both needed to learn how to acknowledge the loss and move forward with their lives. Ryan is the sweetest guy ever! I loved that he really listened to Talia and didn't try to fix her issues. I really liked that while listening and talking with Talia, Ryan was able to internalize the advice his therapist sister had already given him, so that he was able to put himself back out there, and not only help at the rodeo, but see himself helping in a more permanent way.
How fun to have Talia be cousins with Grizz and Clint McCarthy!! I LOVED their cameos and squealed with excitement when Grizz appeared. I was so excited I had to let the author know how happy that made me. When beloved characters appear in other books it's like seeing old friends again.
I think the author did a great job of introducing this new series and the rest of the "original 6" we'll be reading about in future books. I see more cowboy books in my future, and that's always a good thing. Yee-haw!
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions in this review are my own.
Rebecca Connolly, Sophia Summers, and Heather B. Moore have woven a story that builds smoothly and effortlessly, bringing the readers along on a journey of friendship, love, loss, and healing.
WOW! Just, Wow! Talia and Ryan have both suffered, and are both picking up the pieces and learning to live again. This was written so well I could feel what the two felt. The heartbreak and healing that Talia experienced was rough, and couldn't have been easy to write about. I was crying in chapter 2! (And several other times throughout the book). I love that the characters felt real. I enjoyed the tough feelings right along with the jokes, laughter and fun of the characters. I enjoyed the connections to characters I love from other series, and ones I can't wait to learn more about! I'm very impatiently waiting for the next book!
The plot and the characters in Round Up are wonderful. I loved the idea of a place for women to go to heal emotionally with the help of a therapist and the great outdoors and hard work. The romance between Ryan and Talia is tender and sizzling (but clean). In spite of the odds, they get their HEA. I enjoyed the close relationships between the former college rodeo teammates and the relationship that Talia had with her cousins. It was nice to catch up on a couple of characters from another series, but this is definitely a stand-alone book. My only complaint about the book was a few curse words thought or said by Ryan. I was surprised and disappointed to run across them. I'm ambivalent about reading more from Rebecca Connolly. The story itself is really good. I received a complimentary copy. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.
I really liked this book. It was fun to see how people deal with what they have been given and deal with it differently and that is ok. I really liked how the author tied this series into the baseball and hockey series with its characters and relations. It was great to see Ryan and Talia each have their struggles and be able to help the other which in fact helped them as well. Great story and idea. Can't wait for the rest of the series to come out. Maybe football series could be next.... I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Lost Creek Rodeo series starts off with a bang and I cannot wait to read the next installment. Emotionally beautiful, Talia’s story of loss pulled on my heartstrings. I felt like I might cry and break right along with her. I loved the hope of Broken Hearts Ranch and the healing it offered. Ryan was so sweet and would make any girl want a cowboy of their own. I am longing for Texas, a rodeo, and wide open spaces after this story. Y’all won’t be able to put this sweet story down! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a great start to a new series! What I loved most about this book was the main characters and how much depth they had. The author's description of the grieving process was spot on and I loved that she showed it is not something you just snap out of one day. I loved that Talia and Ryan were able to help each other in so many ways. The romance happens pretty fast but I think their deep emotional connection speeds it along. I was very happy with the epilogue!
I really liked Kellie and hope that we get to see more of her in another book, and of course I am intrigued by the other five rodeo cowboys and am excited to read their stories!
I do need to give a trigger warning for this book - much of the story is a parent grieving over the death of their child.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but a positive review was not required.
A wonderful book with an engaging story and great characters A great book covering grief, loss and healing in an evenhanded way without becoming depressing for the reader. This book does an excellent job of depicting the struggles so many go through when life happenings turn their world, dreams and plans on end without warning. Ryan’s dream was to compete in professional rodeo. A dream he not only achieved but excelled in until a severe accident made it impossible to continue. Now he works on his sister’s (Kellie) therapy center/ranch trying to just survive. Talia was a single mother. She struggled to make a good life for her son who was her world. When he suddenly dies, she is left with only grief and emptiness in her life. With her life in shambles, her cousins suggest and encourage her to go to Kellie’s therapy center for help. Can either Ryan or Talia or both find the peace they need to heal, move forward and build a new future? I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Loved getting to know Talia and Ryan. I enjoyed following their journey together as well as individually. This is a touching and heartwarming story and an excellent start to the series. This is a sweet, clean romance with great characters, new and familiar. Can't wait for the next story!
The story begins with Talia and her all-consuming grief. She has blocked herself off and shut down as much as possible and yet still make a living wage. Her pain is palpable and as the story progresses, the details of the reasons for her pain are slowly revealed.
Ryan is also in pain and the writer does an excellent job of communicating his grief, as well.
Two broken people together at a ranch specifically design to heal the broken.
I loved that the author took her time to really delve into Talia’s and Ryan’s lives and heartache before they meet. She also takes her time in their character arcs; time to allow them to take the slow steps needed on their journeys of true healing.
I was touched by their pain (Talia’s more than Ryan’s, probably because I’m a mom) and encouraged by the things they learned in their healing processes.
I loved how their relationship was built upon complete openness (not always the case in romance novels).
Well-written, heartfelt and romantic. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
I have been looking forward to this new series by authors Heather Moore, Sophia Summers and Rebecca Connolly. I loved the Belltown Six Pack and Northbrook Elite series that they collaborated on. This first book did not disappoint! It was heart warming to read not only the relationship development of Ryan and Talia, but their personal growth as they dealt with hard things in their lives and how they mended their broken hearts. We are introduced to the Original Six, and I am looking forward to reading the next books in the series and getting to know each character more. (As well as updates to characters we met in previous series written by these lovely authors. 🎉) I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the first book of the Lost Creek Rodeo series. I grew up going to the rodeo with my grandpa, and was excited to read it. Even though Ryan was part of the rodeo circuit, he was injured and can no longer compete. So what is the story about? Healing! This is a sweet coming to terms with loss and grief. Ryan missing his life of competitive rodeo and Talia grieving the death of her son. Meeting at Lost Creek Ranch was the balm that mended hearts. Because of the real life trials, we all go through -the therapy “taking it one step at a time” - is a feel good treatment we can all benefit from. The touching romance was a added bonus to the story. I liked how we are introduced to the characters of the upcoming books and a little throwback to the some of the past swoony sports characters.
• The romance between Ryan and Talia was touch, sweet, and believable.
• The author masterly told the grieving process that Talia and Ryan went through. She accurately presented the severe depression and numbness that many go through when grieving the loss of different aspects of their lives.
• I liked that the author also showed that many people can recover with intensive counseling programs.
• Broken Hearts Ranch was a place where women went to heal from emotional suffering caused by various reasons. I loved the setting for this story. This was an amazing read that touched my heart.
• The author did an excellent job of character development. There were many secondary characters that added a special depth to this story.
• This was a clean read.
I was given an advance copy of this book. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own. I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading more books in this series and by this author.
This is such a great start to this new series. Rebecca Connolly is one of my go to authors, whose books I am always happy to recommend. This is the Third MAP series I’ve read by this author trio and I am really looking forward to reading the other books in the series. I loved how this book includes/refers to characters from previous series by these authors. Characters from The Belltown Six Pack series, The Northbrook Elite Hockey series and even characters from Heather B. Moore’s Prosperity Ranch series gets a mention. Having read all of the books from those series, I understood and enjoyed the references, however if you haven’t read them before, this will in no way diminish the story. Although, I would still recommend it 🙃 they’re great books, so why not right? I truly enjoyed the friendships in this story. Both between Ryan and Talia, but also between their respective family members and the friendships they in turn developed with others family members. I really hope Ryan’s sister Kellie gets her own story. There is so much potential there and I really enjoyed the glimpses of her personality that we got to see in this story. This is a clean and wholesome read that I can happily recommend.
I received an arc of this book from the author however this in no way influenced my opinion and I am under no obligation to leave this review.
I loved the character development in this story! It is a clean swoony romance but the character trials are relatable and real! Such a fun read and you can't go wrong with a good looking cowboy! I can't wait to see what the rest of the series brings!
I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
I love this book! It is emotionally evocative. I cried. I laughed! The characters are decidedly broken but trying so hard to heal and their journey is wonderful. I love the setting in Lost Creek and had lots of fun learning more about rodeos. Also, beautifully descriptive.
Let me start off by saying I am not a fan of contemporary and I’m not even remotely interested in cowboys and rodeos.... that being said. I was totally shocked when I actually enjoyed this book. It was really good! I read it all in a day and it held my interest the whole time. The story was great and the characters were awesome. I’m looking forward to hearing about the rest of the men in the group.
I LOVE the characters in this book. So fun! I learned a lot about rodeo. And the way everyone meshed together just left me feeling like all was right with the world. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read more in the series.
This is a great start to a new series. I loved Ryan's character. He is just what every cowboy should be chivalrous, protective, handsome, down to earth and a Texas twang for days. Talia is heartbroken from the loss of her child. When her cousins step in to help her out they suggest the Broken Heart Ranch. A place for women to go to recover and deal with their grief. Little did she know what was in store for her. I am excited to read this whole series.
I am loving these collections and Round Up did NOT disappoint. I've been a huge fans of the other sports series and this made me want to go to a rodeo for the first time in a long time.
Better than the rodeo though was the very sweet love story contained in these pages. This love comes after a lot of hurt and trauma in the lives of both of the main characters, and reading their journey through their grief felt very real. It was well-stated and not over-dramatized, as big life events often are in novels.
Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys fun, romance and a stellar read.
A wonderful story about redirecting one’s life after a soul crushing event alters life’s path. While the two main characters are worlds apart in circumstances they are walking a similar path of rediscovered selves. Each must rise above the blow life has dealt them, but find that when there is someone special near by it can be a bit easier. I enjoyed the crossover from the two other sports series ( Northbrook Hockey Elite and Bell Town Six Pack) via the support characters but it isn’t necessary to read them to enjoy this book...but I find it richer having done so. Well developed plot and characters! I look forward to reading more of these books!
You can't go wrong when Rebecca, Heather, and Sophia get together to write a series! I love how they tie in previous characters, and the continuing charm, wit, and banter.
These books are clean and well written with strong women, amazing men, and HEAs.
I received a free copy and would honestly recommend this book.
