Herald of Shalia #5

Herald of Shalia 5

Rate this book
Sebastian Frost frequently found himself marrying women he barely knew. His first wife demanded that he marry her as payment for saving his life, his second tricked him into marrying her, the third he married to secure an alliance, and his fourth was Lysandra. Lysandra was the only woman that Frost chose to marry and she was also the future mother of his child. He thought that after marrying Lysandra he would be finished marrying women he just met but it seemed he was mistaken. In the heat of the moment, he made a reckless wager that resulted in him being engaged to Olivia Moray, a noblewoman from the obscenely wealthy Moray family. If he married Olivia, he would have access to her vast fortune. If he didn't marry her, the Moray family would take it as a grave insult. It was an easy choice to make. Frost had more important things to deal with, like his agreement with the Goddess Riliandra. The goddess found her next prophet and per their deal, Frost needed to protect her. The only problem was that the cute demihuman prophet in question was located in Nir, a country that did not welcome visitors and happened to be at war with Rilia. Frost was going to have to find a way to smuggle himself into the country, find the prophet, and escape. All without getting the attention of the Herald of Niri, a powerful sorceress rumored to be immortal. Herald of Shalia is a fun fantasy light LitRPG/Gamelit by Tamryn Tamer and contains attention starved elves, naughty harpies, creative catgirls, foxy madams, foul language, and completely over the top love making. You've been warned.

Tamryn Tamer is known for tawdry fantasy stories focused around filthy elves, fairies, demons, and really any other mythical creature.

She's a discovery writer whose work focuses on following a character as they explore a new and interesting world and meet new and interesting people...and most likely have sex with them.

Currently focused on Forbidden Arcana. The series follows the mage Jericho as he gathers familiars and unlocks new magic to become the most powerful spellcaster in the VRMMO Forbidden Arcana.

"First, let’s state the obvious. Tamryn Tamer is a pen name. We actually had a few pen names thought up that we still may use in the future. But for now, it’s all about Tamryn. We’re a two person team who does all of their own writing, editing, marketing, cover design, research, formatting, etc. All while working full time and raising kids.

So, what do we write? We write playful over the top GameLIt/LitRPG stories full of memorable characters and graphic sex.

Why graphic sex? We could write some artistic tripe about how it’s necessary but in reality we just like it. It’s fun. It makes us laugh and smile. It makes us fall in love with the characters a bit more and makes them feel more alive. And sometimes you just want to see characters fuck.

But the fisting! The double fisting! The ungodly amounts of bodily fluid! The sheer impossibility of it all! Why that? For the same reason we have magic, dragons, and monsters! It’s fantasy!

Just read our work and decide. We like to chase smiles. That means we like our work to be funny, cool, happy, and memorable. And we just hope you enjoy it .

Thank you so much for reading and let’s have some fun!"

Very enjoyable
This is an erotic harem novel set in a game world with sexy monster girls. (Oh yes, there are sex scenes) People who think that erotic fiction is trashy don't realize how hard it is to write well. Writing erotic fiction well is a high-wire act of delicate balance. Here I could go on about all the ways to get it wrong, but Tamryn Tamer really gets it right.
All five books have had a nearly perfect blend of action, romance, plot, and sex. Another thing that very hard to do is to combine all these elements with out the final story feeling creepy. The Herald of Shalia has heart, and charm, and no small amount of comedy. I am impressed. I'm really looking forward to book six, and I'm going to check out the Forbidden Arcana series while I wait.

***Update: 5 Years Later ***
This update is for the Audiobook.
Sadly, I have to give the audiobook a poor review. At least this first version of it. ...although after all these years I do not expect anyone will ever go back and fill in the missing pieces.
While the performances are fine, there are gaps in the dialog where the narrators would perform different voices. Most all the main character dialog is done and in there, but not all. Many places where a one-off person like a guard, or a restaurant patron, or some random person would have something to say there is a moment of silence followed by the line: "Said the person at the next table over". and your like, "What!? What did they say? there was nothing but silence"
I can only assume that Tamyrn Tamer tried for years to get Kieran Flitton to finish recording his lines but eventually bowed to the inevitable and released the flawed and incomplete version that they do have, instead of hoping for some perfect world where it would be 100% done.
This is areal kick in the pants after every other thing that has happened to these good people who did nothing by try to bring some joy into our lives.

Writing is good, characters and banter are generally amusing, and the story, when it surfaces from the marathon sex scenes is interesting.

For my part, I skipped extensive graphic sexcapades to get back to the narrative so I won't hold those against the book, as we know what we're getting with these books. If you've read them to this point you'll probably enjoy #5 about the same.

After the intense impact of Book 4, Book 5 kind of returns to the filler-y territory that Book 3 resides in (and to a lesser extent, Book 2 as well). We travel to a new land and meet new characters, but nothing truly important happens. It's all setup for things yet to come. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's a bit of a disappointment after how engaging Book 4 was.

I don't really get the point of having

The writing still needs work, but it has seemed to improve ever so slightly with each installment. Although, the last scene of the book seemed to have the largest concentration of errors, for some reason. One character is described as having black hair, and then in the next paragraph it references his red hair. A name of a character not present in the scene is used instead of the actual character it meant to say. Things like that. It was an odd confluence of errors all in one small section.

This is not the end of the series, as the back pages claim Book 6 is coming. But this book is less than a week away from being 1 year old as I write this. The largest gap between publishing before this was 6 months. I sure hope that means it'll be a good one! Hopefully there's no cause to be worried. I'll definitely be reading it whenever it comes out.

A good continuation of the series. Herald Frost goes to a neighboring kingdom to help the prophet of Rilandria. He goes with the beastkin and the Kina along with his mother in law but none of his wives. He also meets another Herald on his journey. Overall this is a pretty good series and I enjoy the characters. Renna is the most fun. I wonder how many books are planned for this series?

😑😤 okay

Not pleased with this book. This book upset me quite a bit… it wasn’t as funny as the rest… it was more of a chore and a annoyance. For one it was filled with brynn and Olivia…. NOTHING came of that, absolutely nothing… also what about Des? Did she get pregnant? What about Lysandra? Did she have a baby? What did they have? Ka was extremely annoying… Frosts mission across the ocean was an interesting one and would have been better if it wasn’t filled with three women constantly screaming BORING, BOR-ING, BOR-ING when he was there to complete a mission. They knew he was there to do a job, a job to help the gods and instead they saw it as a trip to vacation, show off and party. Forget what they were suppose to do and how many times did they almost blow his cover? What happened to the rest of the villages? What happened with Hestia and slade? What happened to des brother and his marriage? This was the most horrible ending imaginable to a book unless there’s some continuation that I don’t know about…. If there is I’ll revise my score and my review…. If not it stands. I should give it a 1… it’s truly a 1.5 but I rounded up to a 2 star rating. I’m upset because I enjoyed this soooo much and laughed so much and enjoyed frost as a character but was given this as the last book. I’m kinda speechless here. 🤷🏽‍♂️ oh well. What can you do? I’m kinda nervous to read other books from these authors because of this.

Unfortunately, this is the first book in the series that I'm not very keen on.

After the events of the previous book, I was really hoping for some depth, exploring the ramifications and character relationships after the fallout. Unfortunately there is none of that, and the series seems to be falling into the harem trap where we just constantly get brand new characters added to the harem, keeping it all rather shallow.

Brynn was in dire need of some form of redemption arc after her actions, however, the aftermath is never properly addressed and just glossed over. No apologies, self reflection or remorse is shown. "Yes, we know your self-centred actions very nearly caused a genocide and the destruction of our entire nation, and was only subverted thanks to a freak accidental discovery of an energy crystal, but it's totally fine!".

I also wasn't keen on the new harpy harem member. I found the way they were introduced and added to the line-up was disappointing and uncharacteristically dense of Frost. I imagine the new character is meant to be a bit of comic relief but it fell flat for me, I didn't find her endearing at all, just annoying.

Was okay compared to the others

While I gave all the other books 5 stars, this o e only gets 3. The number of sex scenes was excessive and way to long. I have gotten to the point where I skip the 20+ pages of them. And all the fighting between the girls really got on my nerves. And the character Ka just gets on my nerves as well. At that part when Lysandra tried to go talk the Bryyn and Olivia, but Ka landed in front of her and shoved her face in Lys's. I literally threw my phone and yelled "annoying bird brained Bi@%&. If Tamryn makes a 6, I am not sure I will even read it.

I have to say i no longer read the sex chapters (skim through it). this book go more in to RPG world/system then previous books, story was slow compare to the rest and maybe the worst one to read in this series (in good way). still far better then most of the books out there on this category.

For the most part, I was pretty satisfied with this volume. It mostly dealt with the aftermath of last volume and the completion of the task given by the goddess alliance. Frost was required to travel to another country and I really appreciated the detail of the world-building as the scope of story setting expanded. The anticipated conflicts ended up being a bit underwhelming in their resolution but it was still a fun read. End scene set the stage for a potentially long narrative but it has been almost 3 years since release of this volume, so I am concerned about the potential of its continuation.

Some interesting developments.

The harpies are hilarious.
That said, overall the story has been very enjoyable. The smut has been good, some things I don't care for but I'll take the occasional well written kink that's not my thing over terrible smut any day.
Some editing would be useful, a wrong word here, an issue there. Not deplorable but... yeah.
The story kind of tries to address how Frost is busy so fast at coming up with things and no one else is, but still.. a little silly. Half a point off for that, half for grammar, 4 stars.

Herald Frost continues to romp with his demi human wives and cincubines. Between said romps, he gets a job from a goddess allied with Shelia. His temper is not soothed as he observes bullying treatment of demi humans by humans. He tries pacifism, but violence is so much more satisfying. I like the action, humor, and lust/love. I look forward to another book.

There was a month where all I read was haremLit just to see what's up and after reading maybe 20 titles, this is the only one I follow. It's well written and genuinely shows care and thought for the world. I personally skip most of the sex scenes now, but that's just me. For most people they come here for the sex and it's quite here, undeniably.

Slowly but surely becoming a favorite

Obviously this is the 5th installment in the Herald of Shalia series and damn was it a wild and fun ride! Tamer really flexed those literary chops to put together this piece of art! Not only was this book MASSIVE but it never lagged! It had a perfect balance of action. world building, development, and of course SPICE!

Best so far , by far

The wait was long. The wait was straight full. The wait was really really boring. And the wait was worth it.

this is by far the best book in this series so far, and it's just a fantastic book all told. Start to finish, every page I couldn't quit turning the page as fast as I could possibly read it

Terrible writing. Why?

I confess, I only read about 65 per cent of this book. So much cutesy writing. The Harpys and their fussing and whining were bad enough. Then Frosts girlfriends started talking and acting like 13 year old school girls. This was my last book in this series. Very annoying indeed. Yes. 😂

Kinda phoned this one in.

First off, the new wife Twi is just the worst character ever. She seems a lot more demi than human. And not in a good way. In like an ew way.

Second, there's a lot of unresolved stuff from previous books that just gets totally blasted right over.

Other than that it was mildly entertaining.

Love the world building elements.

I really enjoyed this book. Don't get me wrong, the over the top sex is great in the rest as well, but it's nice that it's a liiiiiittle shorter during the scenes. It gives more time for world building and character building.

More Gods, More Heralds

Fantasy and lots and lots of sex. It’s not a bad combination if well done, and this is well done.

These aren’t new novels, and they have plenty of solid reviews, but one more positive isn’t a bad thing. Give the series a try. I did, and I’m happy for it.

Great!

Frost has succeeded again. He has successfully set in motion a very profitable arrangement. Not only that but it seems the Gods are getting along better. So it would be nice if the authors would add illustrations to the books so we could see what the characters look like!

Nice book

To many things happening all at once. To many stupid characters making the book less enjoyable like the others. But I like how the author talk about the difficulty the MC has with having so many women.

Definitely just as good as the other books in the series, it was really awesome to see a new goddess come to life. I can’t wait to see the harpies priestess reaction to Frost meeting her.
