As with all works by Mark Goodwin, this book contains no profanity and no embarrassing sex scenes. However, if you're offended by conservative principles and references to Scripture, this book might not be for you.
Mark Goodwin is a Christian author and host of the popular Prepper Recon Podcast which interviews patriots, preppers and economists to help people prepare for the uncertain times ahead. His previous fiction series, The Days of Noah spent several months at number one on the Amazon best-sellers list in multiple categories. His first series, The Economic Collapse Chronicles, also hit the Amazon best-sellers list in several categories.
As a Christian, I would have liked to see the characters a bit more dependent on God for direction and forbearance. As a reader, I found the plot to be well thought out and full of twists and turns. I loved the unexpected moments and the tough decisions that the characters were contemplating and their reasoning behind it. There was one area that I thought could have been expounded upon and that was the forest fire…why bring it into the picture if it was only going to be a red herring for battle? It never got addressed after its execution. This series takes on a whole different persona than the author’s other stories. I still liked it and read each book one right after the other because it was still great in its own unique style. Recommend for decent , unexpected, and interesting storytelling!
Remember, this is fiction. Just like every author, Mark Goodwin uses real-life events and other material as inspiration for his stories. It's fiction inspired by the non-fiction. I really enjoy Mark Goodwin's writing. He writes for the veteran prepper and the novice. The political, secular, and Christian narratives unfold in the telling of his relatable stories. You'll recognize similar events to real-life current events without feeling like you're being fed a cheesy story. For a "Christian" book, it has some shocking scenes that I did not expect but was unexpectedly pleased with.
Although there is a lot of killing in these books, they keep ones interest throughout. It reflects society's downward spiral as the economy forces everyone to either kill or be killed; to fight for freedom or to live as slaves. I highly recommend all of Mark Goodwin's books!!
As always Mark delivers an action filled story with very real and emotional human characters. Love his imagination and yet it’s realistic or seems possible that the end could happen like that. I am not crazy over all the shooting and killing, but it is a time of war and the collapse of society. On to the next book!
I enjoyed this entire series. Just thinking about how the demise of America could go down if our economy falls, is frightening. Knowing that one day it is going to happen is another thing. This story plays out during an unstable (to say the least) economic collapse of our government, and how people stood up to keep their small town free.
This is strong, fast-action writing with conservative social commentary, survival tactics, and solid traditional values, written in a clean yet gripping fashion.
Great book set. Really enjoyed this. I'm afraid America is very close to something like this. I pray to God ppl WILK wake up soon + believe in Jesus' sacrifice for their sins + live for God.
I can’t get enough of Mr Godwin’s stories. Feeds my soul with God. I bond with so many characters in his stories but I wish not so many died. I love listening to Kevin Pierce narrate.
This series follows Shane Black, a man caught in the chaos of a collapsing America triggered by the death of the US dollar. With a runtime of 17 hours and 40 minutes, the audiobook delivers a pulse-pounding narrative that’s hard to pause.
Shane, a former country rock star, navigating a dystopian America brought to its knees by an economic meltdown and an EMP attack. The series explores a chillingly plausible scenario where hyperinflation, corrupt local governments, and societal breakdown force characters to make tough moral choices. Goodwin’s storytelling is rooted in his Christian worldview, with scripture references opening each chapter and themes of faith and redemption woven throughout. While the conservative and religious undertones are prominent, they add depth to the characters’ motivations, though they may not resonate with all listeners. The plot is fast-paced, filled with action, suspense, and unexpected twists.
Goodwin’s strength lies in crafting relatable characters and a believable apocalyptic setting.
Kevin Pierce’s narration is a standout, earning consistent praise for bringing the story to life. His gravelly, measured delivery perfectly suits the gritty tone, and he skillfully differentiates characters, making it easy to follow the ensemble cast. Pierce’s pacing enhances the tension, especially during action sequences, and his ability to convey emotion adds depth to quieter moments.
