Aleigh K. Dean writes contemporary romance and romantic suspense featuring small-town charm, humor, happily-ever-afters, and as many quirky characters as she can create. After publishing the first book in her Whiskey Valley Romance series—conceived during many hours stuck in rush hour traffic—Aleigh continues to write nonstop. When not reading a good book, writing, or spending time with her family in her Indiana hometown, Aleigh is probably plotting a storyline, romantic scene, or the demise of an unlucky character.

Christmas. A love triangle. Murder. Intrigue. Humour. Two wild old ladies in a vintage Cadillac. I’M ALL IN!

Homesick and unable to continue working as a flight attendant after a bout of panic attacks, Callie Douglass returns to her hometown in Kentucky for the holidays. Bo Macklin, retired from his career as a pro football player, is happy to run his family’s various businesses, including Majestic, a popular local restaurant and bar. Two years previously, Callie had been engaged to Bo’s brother, Daniel, and had left him at the altar. The attraction between Bo and Callie is strong and ignoring their feelings for one another turns out to be harder than they could have imagined.

The first thing I noticed about this book was that Dean avoids giving you a big “info dump” in the first chapter. You get to discover Bo and Callie’s backstories as the novel progresses which keeps you invested and interested in the story. As a reader, you know that Bo and Callie are going to end up together (at least, you hope for that happy ending) but that doesn’t mean the book is predictable. There is still the murder of Holly, Bo’s ex-wife, to be solved and while there is a smattering of well-placed clues here and there, you can really only guess at the murderer’s identity up until the end.

In addition to the well crafted story, you will LOVE these characters. They’re multi-dimensional and relatable. They have flaws. You like them. You want to see them happy. The crazy antics of Aunt Mae and Grandma Thea (the two wild old ladies in the vintage Caddy) remind us that we all need a partner in crime, even when we’re in our eighties.
