[Mature content] *No rape* Despite her uninterest, Madeline Harris is dragged to the Hawthorne’s annual masquerade ball along with her older sister in order to find rich husbands. Madeline gives her best effort to spend the evening unnoticed by anyone, but a silver-masked stranger returns her missing handkerchief before requesting to dance with her. After spending the rest of the evening evading his eager, and arguably aggressive, approach, she returns home only to have a betrothal letter from the King arrive at her house the next day.
Enter his Royal Highness Calhoun Hawthrone, the narcissistic and self-obsessed despot of the entire Devon land, the silver-masked stranger, a man who never takes no for an answer because he never had to.
Coerced into agreeing to a union with the most selfish and evil man she has ever met, will Madeline find a way to escape his clutches and marry the tailor of her dreams before living the simple life she always desired? Or must she accept becoming the wife and queen of a man who treats people as things?

"Your bed is cold," spoke a voice in the room that had her eyes go wide in fear. Nervously, she turned around, gulping softly to see a shadow on her bed as if someone laid down there. The man who had been lying down sat up emerging out from the shadows where he had been waiting for her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked when his feet touched the ground and he pushed himself up to start walking towards her. His handsome features looked darker than usual because of the lack of light in the room.
"I came to meet you," he tilted his head, "Where did you go?"
"I went out for a walk," came the quick reply that had him smile, a smile that scared her the most.
She took a step back when he came close to her. It didn't stop him from cornering her, and her back hit the wall behind her. He raised his hand towards her face, and she closed her eyes, scared. She shuddered when his fingers trail down from her temple and her jaw and neck. Her blonde hair was left open.
"In the middle of the night?" she didn't answer him knowing he could decipher her lies through her words. He stepped closer that had her turn her face away from him and his words vibrated on the skin of her neck,
Honestly the best webnovel i've ever read This is honestly sooo good I mean Everything about this makes me fall in love The theme Okay so its all about vampires , demons , dark angels ,angels amd MORE fictional demonic entities Omg I just luv it sm Also this review is coming from someone who has read and reread this 2 times. I luv the enemies to lovers trope in this. Its really so addicting and hard to put down U really will never get bored So much is happening Its chaotic and honestly funny how fast things change A vampire king × human girl And then literally everything changes The plot twist has me curling in a ball The character development is soooo great U hate them abd then you love them Honestly i really get what the phase 'there's a thin line between luv and hate' means now bc mwahhhh <3 JUST READ IT THE MAIN CHARACTER CALHAUN MAKES ME SO SAD!!!
Yet another masterpiece by Ash. I got so used to the LDG world but reading this story with another fantasy background was great. I love Calhoun and Madeline's story.
Cal is witty, sarcastic, dark, possessive, teasing, so loyal and loving. I loved his character progression from being a stubborn and not flexible man in love to an adjusting, supportive and understanding man who let's Madeline thrive and shine the way she wants to.
Maddie is a stubborn, strong, good natured woman who in the journey of finding herself, finds love with Cal that breaks boundaries of all realms. The timeline from hating Cal to understanding him better and knowing that he is the one for her, is amazing. There is so much character development.
The setup of this world is very interesting. The characters written are so intricately woven that it will leave you gasping in amazement. The number of twists will make you dizzy (in a good way).
I absolutely adore some of the side characters. It's great that I got to read about them too in Volumes 2 and 3. It's satisfying to read about others and it's a good closure.
It's a great story and I'm sure I will remember it for a long time. ❤
I'm excited to get the rest of this book in hard copy! Book 1 is chapters 1-49 out of 868! I'm excited to get each one! It's a great book with a pride and prejudice meets beauty and the beast vampire vibe. If you like an enemy-turned-lover story with twists and turns, Ash Knight17 is your girl who won both a gold and silver award for her other web novels. I can't wait to watch her flourish in the handheld novel world. She is someone to watch, in my opinion.
Maybe it's because of my moral radar, but I hate the ML of this book shows how great you are as a lovely writer, no amount of lovey-dovey with Madeline could blanket how much he was an asshole to everybody else, and also even if this is a work of fiction the stories about heaven, earth, angels, and God, the angel Raphael in a relationship with the werewolf girl Elizabeth and the messed-up prophecies? don't even get me started with the bringing people back to life and hitting the doors of heaven because the ML lead simply didn't care and that God is merciful; this book was cringe and unrealistic so much I had no excuse anymore; I mean yes fiction is unrealistic but this took it to another immature stoop-low level, and all that stuff with Calhoun's pride darn angered me! But then let me be the hypocrite here when I say, I dunno why but the Second ML Theodore really stuck out to me, and I liked him a lot... But there's a thin line between this fiction book and profanity. And please author, what goes on in your head? I'm sure the FL was supposed to be what the story surrounded, but the ML stole her show.
A fun, enjoyable read with a unique mix of fantasy and romance. It kept me interested, but some parts could have been more believable. From start to finish, it took me over two months.
The story flowed well, and everything came together nicely in the end. What started as a simple romance between a king and a commoner grew into a much bigger fantasy plot involving angels, demons, vampires, and werewolves. I liked how the plot expanded and kept surprising me. I was happy that everyone had a happy ending, but it felt a bit too perfect at times.
The characters went through great development, which I really enjoyed. However, some parts didn’t feel realistic because things always seemed to magically work out for the main characters.
My favourite couple was Lucy and Theodore. Their love story was so cute to read, even if it had heartbreaking moments. On the other hand, I wish Helena and Vladimir’s relationship had been developed more. It felt a little rushed and abrupt.
I've read this sometime ago, long enough to forget it but here I am still hung over this book, fell in love with the characters, the style of writing, just everything, so much so that I look for this book and the feeling it gave me, in every book I read.
Definitely stored in my core memory, Joy plays it to me whenever she wants to cheer me up hahaha
There aren't even words for how much I loved reading this book. I still check back for new chapters even tho it's been over for a while. I wish I had a copy on my bookcase with all my other favorites.
This is one of the first novels that actually got me into reading and I've read it 2 times and am about to read it again because this is one of my things and I'll always love this
