प्रसिद्ध फिल्म अभिनेता आशुतोष राना की यह पुस्तक मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम श्रीराम के जीवन-दर्शन पर आधारित है। उन्होंने अपनी विशिष्ट लेखन शैली में उन प्रसंगों की व्याख्या की है जो आमजन के मस्तिष्क में उमड़ते-घुमड़ते रहे हैं। पुस्तक इतनी रोचक है कि एक बार पढ़ना प्रारंभ कर देने के बाद बीच में रुकना लगभग असंभव है।

33/100....33% अंक दूँगा।
1st thing फर्स्ट..... इसे रामायण न समझें। रामायण के कुछ प्रमुख पात्रों की मनोभावना/मनोस्थिति और उनके माध्यम से रामायण की कहानी का लेखक के नज़रिये से आध्यात्मिक सार है.... खूब सारी quote करने लायक ज्ञान की बातें हैं, शब्दों का शानदार प्रयोग है.....kind of कलाइयों का सुन्दर उपयोग और गेंद बॉउंड्री के बाहर टाइप।
मुख्यतः जिन पात्रों की चर्चा है, वे हैं - कैकेयी, सुपर्णा उर्फ़ शूर्पणखा, मारीच, कुम्भकर्ण, विभीषण रावण और मंदोदरी। अब आप सोच रहे होंगे कि राम-सीता-लक्ष्मण-हनुमान का ज़िक्र नहीं किया मैंने !! ये चारो भी हैं; लक्ष्मण और हनुमान को काफी कम जगह मिला है। सबसे ज्यादा जगह सुपर्णा उर्फ़ सूर्पणखा चैप्टर को दिया गया है।
कोई भी विलन नहीं है(एक है, उसकी चर्चा अंत में करूँगा); सभी लोग ज्ञानी ही हैं.....बस माया में फंसे हैं और राम के माध्यम से मुक्ति की चाह रखते हैं...मुक्ति का माध्यम बनना चाहते हैं।
ये जनरेशन सवाल बहुत करती है.....खासकर रिलीजियस मैटर/किस्सा-कहानी पर। संभवतः हर जनरेशन ही करती आई है, लेकिन लोग खुद के जनरेशन के लिए ही ऐसे इंटेलेक्चुअल वाली फीलिंग रखते हैं।
अब लेखक उन घटनाओं को, जो सुपर नेचुरल/असंभव टाइप की हैं और जिनका कोई लॉजिकल एक्सप्लेनेशन नहीं दीखता, कल्पना और तर्क की डोर से कुछ ऐसा बुनते हैं कि वे नेचुरल या संभव प्रतीत होने लगते हैं। बहुत ज्यादा spoiler न देकर केवल एक बताता हूँ ― कुम्भकरण के 6 मास निद्रा और पहाड़ जैसे शरीर के बारे में लेखक ने बताया है कि वो वैज्ञानिक टाइप राक्षस था; अपने शोध कार्य में व्यस्त रहता था इसलिए रावण ने ये बात फैला दी थी कि वो सोता रहता है ताकि उसे कोई डिस्टर्ब न करे और वो एक से बढ़कर एक आविष्कार करते रहे। उसने एक पहाड़ के साइज़ का रोबोट टाइप कुछ बनाया था और उसी के अंदर बैठ कर बाहर जाता था, युद्ध करता था इसलिए लोगों को लगता था कि वो पहाड़ जितना बड़ा है।
इसी प्रकार शूर्पणखा के नाक-कान काटे जाने, स्वर्ण-मृग, सीता जी की छाया का अपहरण, अग्नि-परीक्षा, रावण की नाभि में अमृत कुण्ड आदि का तार्किक, छायावादी और आध्यात्मिक एक्सप्लेनेशन दिया गया है.....पच भी सकता आपको, अपच भी हो सकता है या समझ में नहीं भी आ सकता है (मुझे रावण की नाभि में अमृत कुण्ड वाला तीन बार पढ़कर भी समझ नहीं आया)।
सीता परित्याग वाला मैटर थोड़ा touchy हो जाता है और इसपर लेखक ने सलीके से अपना दृष्टिकोण/तर्क बिठाया है। आस्थावान हैं तो सहमत हो जायेंगे आप। लेखक ने सभी पात्रों में गुण दिखाया है या उन्हें राम को नर से नारायण में परिवर्तित होने का माध्यम माना है लेकिन दुर्मुख धोबी के साथ कोई रियायत नहीं है; वही एकमात्र विलन है इस पुस्तक में।

"हमरा पुरुषार्थ अग्नि के सदृश्य होता है और हमारा अहंकार उस अग्नि से निकलनेवाला धुआँ के जैसा। धुआँ तो अग्नि का प्रतिस्वभाव होता है जिसे समाप्त नहीं किया जा सकता, किन्तु हाँ, उसपर नियंत्रण अवश्य किया जा सकता है, और करना भी चाहिए, जिससे अग्नि के समीप बैठा हुआ समाज अग्नि की ऊष्मा का आनंद ले सके।"

Ramayana is a beautiful well known epic written by Rishi Valmiki but it raises so many questions in the minds of the younger generation including you and me. Why did Kakeyi, who loved Lord Ram the most, asked him to go on exile? Despite being a reincarnation of God himself, why did Lord Ram let Ravana kidnap Sita? Why did Lord Ram take ten days to kill Ravana and why was Sita asked to go on exile again?
The author has worked on answering all such questions intelligently and diligently. This book is Hindi literature and the writer's finesse is visible. He has used authentic hindi words but has also mentioned meanings on every page which makes it easier to understand for someone who is not well-versed with the language.
The book is beautifully written in a conversational manner which helps in building the momentum. The author’s ideology in portraying other strong characters of the epic like Kakei and Surpanakha in detail is unique and appreciable. Overall it's a good book, it kept me glued till the end and I enjoyed reading the author's perspective on different topics.
I admire Mr Rana for his knowledge of mythology and the way he expressed his thoughts. Although, I will request the author to get it translated into English to help this book reach to a wider audience.

आशुतोष राना कृत "रामराज्य"
परंपरागत राम कथा :नई भाव भूमि पर

राम कथा भारतीय जनमानस में इस कदर घुली मिली है जैसे फूल और खुशबू. ग्रामीण अंचल में आज भी अपनी बात को वजनदार बनाने के लिए रामचरित मानस की चौपाइयां- दोहे बोलना आम बात है. और जरूरी नहीं कि ऐसा पढ़े-लिखे लोग करते हों, खेतिहर मजदूर किसान से लेकर घरेलू महिलाएं तक ऐसा करती हैं. श्रद्धेय रामानंद सागर की रामायण छोटे पर्दे पर प्रसारित होने के पूर्व गांव गांव में रामलीला का मंचन साल का प्रमुख उत्सव हुआ करता था. श्रावण माह में अखंड रामायण पारायण आज भी बड़ी श्रद्धा और उत्साह के साथ आयोजित किया जाता है. सैकड़ों साल से राम कथा रस धारा के अविरल प्रवाह के फलस्वरूप राम और उनका चरित्र भारत के जन-जन के हृदयों में वास करता है.
अनेक कथावाचक अपने अपने भाव एवं समझ अनुसार राम कथा का गायन निरंतर करते ही रहते हैं. अनेक स्वनामधन्य लेखकों ने रामचरित्र पर लेखनी चलाकर अपने लेखकीय कौशल का परिष्कार किया है. अलग-अलग सभ्यता, संस्कृति एवं श्रुति परंपराओं के अनुरूप राम कथाओं के भी अनेक अनेकानेक रूप हैं. कहा भी जाता है - "रामायण शत कोटि अपारा"
जन-जन में व्याप्त ऐसी परंपरागत लोकप्रिय कथा पर अनुज आशुतोष राना ने क्या नया लिखा होगा? "रामराज्य" हाथ में लेने के पूर्व ऐसी जिज्ञासा होना स्वाभाविक था. कौतूहल मिश्रित उत्सुकता इसलिए भी थी क्योंकि मेरी उठक बैठक रानाजी के बड़े भाइयों के साथ रही है जिसकी वजह से रानाजी के प्रति मेरी दृष्टि हमेशा अनुजवत रही है, जो एक कुशल अभिनेता होने के साथ- साथ हिंदी भाषा पर भी अच्छा अधिकार रखते हैं, जो इन दिनों प्राय: दुर्लभ बात है.
लेकिन एक बार "रामराज्य" का पारायण प्रारंभ करने के बाद मेरी कौतूहल मिश्रित उत्सुकता रानाजी के प्रति प्रशंसा और गौरव के भावों से भरती चली गई. मैंने पाया कि आशुतोष राना जितने कुशल अपनी संवाद अदायगी और वक्तृत्व कला में हैं उससे कहीं अधिक वजनदार उनकी लेखनी है. गुरुदेव दद्दा जी ने वैचारिक चिंतन मनन की क्षमता तो उन्हें मुक्त हस्त से प्रदान कर ही रखी है.
और लगे हाथ यह भी घोषित करता चलूं कि यह बातें मैं आशुतोष राना को अनुज मानकर स्नेहाशिक्त भाव से ना कह कर एक ऐसे पाठक के रूप में कह रहा हूं जिसे राम कथा का अवगाहन करने का थोड़ा बहुत सौभाग्य मिला है.
पूरे उपन्यास में उक्तियां तो जैसे भरी पड़ी हैं. कथा वही पुरानी, लेकिन पात्रों का चरित्र चित्रण एवं उनके द्वारा व्यक्त किए जा रहे उदगार एकदम नई भाव भूमि पर.
कैकेई एवं शूर्पणखा (सुपर्णा) के चरित्रों पर ऐसा चिंतन, उनके बारे में आम तौर पर प्रचलित धारणाओं को बदल कर रख देता है. कमाल की दृष्टि है.
प्रसंगानुसार रावण एवं मंदोदरी का संवाद तथा रामेश्वरम शिवलिंग की स्थापना के समय पुरोहित के रूप में पधारे रावण एवं राम के बी��� संवाद भी रावण के प्रति जन मन में प्रचलित आम धारणाओं को पुनर्विचार करने के लिए विवश करने की क्षमता रखते हैं.
श्रीराम द्वारा रावण से यह पूछे जाने पर कि "महात्मन, मुझसे मित्रता करके आप सब कुछ प्राप्त कर सकते थे, फिर मेरे प्रति आपके शत्रु भाव का कारण क्या है?" देखिए रानाजी के चिंतन एवं लेखनी का जादू, वह रावण से कहलवाते हैं - "राम तुम्हारी मित्रता मुझे ज्ञान से भर देती, किंतु रावण को ज्ञान नहीं, ज्ञान से मुक्ति चाहिए थी. "
उपन्यास के चरित्र आपसी वार्तालाप में जिस परिमार्जित, सुसंस्कृत, संबंधित पात्र के अनुकूल भाषा का प्रयोग करते हैं, उससे स्पष्ट परिलक्षित होता है कि आशुतोष ने प्रत्येक चरित्र का बहुत बारीकी से न केवल अध्ययन किया है अपितु वह सभी के प्रति निष्पक्ष भी रहे हैं. यह लेखकीय कौशल वर्षों की तपस्या से हासिल होता है जिसकी झलक आशुतोष राना ने अपने पहले ही उपन्यास में बखूबी दिखा दी है.
सरल, सहज और ग्राह्य उक्तियां और सुभाषित इस उपन्यास की जान हैं. बानगी देखिए-
• "सिहासन पर बैठकर किया गया आग्रह भी आदेश ध्वनित होता है, किंतु समाज के साथ खड़े हो कर दिए गए आदेश भी आव्हान सुनाई देते हैं. "
यहां पर और अधिक उद्धरणों का उल्लेख मैं जानबूझकर नहीं कर रहा हूं. पाठकों को चाहिए कि वह "रामराज्य "उपन्यास का सांगोपांग पठन-पाठन कर स्वयं उसमें से मोती चुनें.
यहां पर कुछेक बातों का उल्लेख कमियों की दृष्टि से नहीं अपितु अपेक्षाओं की दृष्टि से किया जाना समीचीन होगा.
जगद्जननी सीता माता पर केंद्रित अध्याय और विशद होता तो सुखद होता .
राम के जीवन में भरत का विशेष महत्व है. उपन्यास में भरत पर केंद्रित पृथक अध्याय ना होना तनिक खटकता है. मुझे लगता है कि आशुतोष जी के मन में भरत के चरित्र चित्रण को लेकर अवश्य ही पृथक से कोई योजना होगी.
आज के इस दौर में जब हिंदी का पाठक वर्ग बहुत उदासीन है, आशुतोष राना कृत "रामराज्य" उनमें पढ़ने के प्रति ललक अवश्य पैदा करेगा क्योंकि इसकी रोचकता एवं लालित्य है ही ऐसा.
उत्तरदायित्व रानाजी का भी बढ़ गया है, क्योंकि उम्मीद जगाती उनकी लेखनी से उनके प्रति अपेक्षाएं बढ़ जाना स्वाभाविक है.
वह सभी की अपेक्षाओं पर खरा उतरते हुए अपने लेखकीय उत्तरदायित्व का कुशलतापूर्वक निर्वहन करते रहें... अनेकानेक शुभकामनाएं...

उपन्यास के चरित्र आपसी वार्तालाप में जिस परिमार्जित, सुसंस्कृत, संबंधित पात्र के अनुकूल भाषा का प्रयोग करते हैं, उससे स्पष्ट परिलक्षित होता है कि आशुतोष ने प्रत्येक चरित्र का बहुत बारीकी से न केवल अध्ययन किया है अपितु वह सभी के प्रति निष्पक्ष भी रहे हैं. यह लेखकीय कौशल वर्षों की तपस्या से हासिल होता है जिसकी झलक आशुतोष राना ने अपने पहले ही उपन्यास में बखूबी दिखा दी है.
सरल, सहज और ग्राह्य उक्तियां और सुभाषित इस उपन्यास की जान हैं. बानगी देखिए-
• "सिहासन पर बैठकर किया गया आग्रह भी आदेश ध्वनित होता है, किंतु समाज के साथ खड़े हो कर दिए गए आदेश भी आव्हान सुनाई देते हैं. "
यहां पर और अधिक उद्धरणों का उल्लेख मैं जानबूझकर नहीं कर रहा हूं. पाठकों को चाहिए कि वह "रामराज्य "उपन्यास का सांगोपांग पठन-पाठन कर स्वयं उसमें से मोती चुनें.
यहां पर कुछेक बातों का उल्लेख कमियों की दृष्टि से नहीं अपितु अपेक्षाओं की दृष्टि से किया जाना समीचीन होगा.
जगद्जननी सीता माता पर केंद्रित अध्याय और विशद होता तो सुखद होता .
राम के जीवन में भरत का विशेष महत्व है. उपन्यास में भरत पर केंद्रित पृथक अध्याय ना होना तनिक खटकता है. मुझे लगता है कि आशुतोष जी के मन में भरत के चरित्र चित्रण को लेकर अवश्य ही पृथक से कोई योजना होगी.
आज के इस दौर में जब हिंदी का पाठक वर्ग बहुत उदासीन है, आशुतोष राना कृत "रामराज्य" उनमें पढ़ने के प्रति ललक अवश्य पैदा करेगा क्योंकि इसकी रोचकता एवं लालित्य है ही ऐसा.
उत्तरदायित्व रानाजी का भी बढ़ गया है, क्योंकि उम्मीद जगाती उनकी लेखनी से उनके प्रति अपेक्षाएं बढ़ जाना स्वाभाविक है.
वह सभी की अपेक्षाओं पर खरा उतरते हुए अपने लेखकीय उत्तरदायित्व का कुशलतापूर्वक निर्वहन करते रहें... अनेकानेक शुभकामनाएं...

It is not a retelling of Ramayana, but more about how author perceives that. Language is lucid and makes justice to the theme of the book.

Good one. Kinda needed this book after the irritating “Vanara” by Anand Neelkantan . I liked Aushutosh Rana’s version of Ramayan ( Never thought a “Dushman” guy could write such a beautiful book. Real talent always shines..😊). I could neither disagree with his point of view nor feel disappointed with the thought process.
The book has so many beautiful quotes, such as:
“रावण राजनीति के माध्यम से धर्म को नियंत्रित करना चाहता है और राम, धर्म के दंड से राजनीति को सही दिशा देने के लिए संकल्पबद्ध है।”
“बल द्वारा व्यवस्था को संचालित करना शासन है और आत्मशक्ति से व्यवस्थित रहने की कला अनुशासन कहलाती है । एक साधन है और दूसरी साधना । एक को बाहर से थोपा जाता है, और दूसरे को अंदर रोपा जाता है ।”
A few sentences were repetitive though .. Like, “राम ने मुस्कुराते हुए अपना दाया हाथ .. के कँधे पर रखा.. ” etc.. Suparna took more part of this book compared to other characters. Last chapters felt a bit rushed; but not incomplete.
Overall a good read. For many years, Ramayana’s characters are questioned one way or another. This book tries to answer them well.. 👍🏻✌🏻

The book actually was getting a 5 star for its subject matter, the writing, the flow, almost everything. I have reserved the 1 star because of the philosophical disalignment. Although I understand that it's a work of fiction and authors can take the liberty of imagination and their own prejudices can easily make way into the subject matter without being alleged of right or wrong. But I have prejudices too.
I have come across very few books which gives a feeling of justifying their title to evey bit, and this is one. Its title most appropriately parallels the main idea of the book. Every chapter picks a character and makes them the protagonist of the story and what role they're playing in making Shree Ram fulfill the purpose of his life. This is the central idea of Ramrajya as it is preached widely and also what the author has described.
The book doesn't go far from the general mythological content of Ramayana, it only adds some point of views which are usually seen as black or white and paints them grey.
Climax is the part where comes the reason for my disalignment. Although even the climax had a very profound statement that is going to stay with me forever and I will find my peace in it, i.e. "आज मर्यादा की विजय के लिए पुरुषोत्तम को परास्त होना पड़ा था।"
The why and what of this matter, is not appropriate content for a review though, so taking a pause and acknowledging that it is a work of fiction.
My praise goes for the author, as we already know him as a polished actor, he doesn't disappoint in writing either, as expected.

This book has changed my thought about Kaikeyi, Suparna(Shurpankha), Warrior Ram, Ravan, Sita, Laxman, Vibhishan and Kunbhakarn and Sita's abandonment. Such a great writing with tons of knowledge. Really blessed to read this.

Most Indian epics (The Ramayana, The Mahabharata, Any of the Puranas etc) are dangerous territories to venture into when it comes to commentaries, derivative works, screen adaptations etc. That such works represent almost 10,000 years of cultural continuity via oral and written traditions and have a deep seated veneration for millions, makes any "new" retelling, prone to immense criticism if not straight up boycott.
Thankfully Ashutosh Rana's Ramarajya treads this fine balance gorgeously. This book is a retelling of the Ramayana and weaves different parts of the story to create an abridged version. It is full of Rana's own philosophical interpretations much inspired by his Guru's discourses Sri Daddaji. Particularly interesting are Ravana's lengthy expositions on his philosophy of life and morals. There is unmistakable flair in Rana's hindi prose and one can make out how effortlessly the book exudes a cinematic vibe given Rana's profession.
One only has to go to YouTube and check out any of Rana's interviews to realize this is a man given to deep and meaningful introspection. Thankfully those meditations find their way into this book with immaculate writing. If you're looking for a Ramayana retelling this can be worth your while if you read Hindi

The best gift you can give yourself this year is a remarkable book by the famous actor-turned-writer, Ashutosh Rana.
I read it when it was first launched, and since then, I find myself returning to it whenever I seek positive direction in my life. It offers an incredible portrayal of events from the Ramayana era.
For example, we've all heard stories from our grandmothers or seen them depicted in television serials, particularly regarding Ravana and Kaikeyi. We know about Surpanakha and how she ignited Ravana's dark path. We've also heard how Ram fought and ultimately defeated Ravana. However, how good it will be when we share these stories and make it look like more positive perspective on even the darkest incidents from that age?
I've gifted this book to around ten people, and none of them took more than 2 days to finish it. The author presents the narrative in such an engaging way, sharing uplifting messages that resonate deeply.

Episode of why Ravan does this mistake even when he is aware of Ram being an incarnation.
Its very relevant as ruling party in India ( BJP ) is hell bent on hindutva ideology the whole narrative is twisted and made to embrace bitterness whereas Ram is about inclusion.
Its one of masterpieces of Hindi literature. If u do not know Hindi.. learn Hindi language to read it. You will not be disappointed

Read once to know actual part of Ramayana.... There are lot of different perspective about Ramrajya... In this book author give a different but real perspective of Ramayana....To know how Raja Ram and other characters of Ramayana to help to established Ramrajya...
