When All Else Fails

Rate this book
Gage McGinnis has neglected her love life over the years, preferring to focus on work and her son. Until she takes up a job running the Office of Emergency Services. She strikes up a friendship with her new assistant, Kit, and it soon stirs up feelings she hasn’t had for a long time. But Kit’s life is not as straightforward as it would seem, and an abusive husband threatens their new relationship.

Sherryl grew up in San Diego, California the youngest of three. She began making up stories as a teenager.
Working for the State of California at the Department of Justice taught her the inner workings of law enforcement. Her first stories centered around law enforcement situations. She married her husband and had two children. She continued writing and attempted to be published. When an agent returned her submission for the third time she gave up.
Always the romantic, the stories came with a vengeance after marrying her wife. Her biggest fan, (other than her mother) her wife, Tirzah, decided these needed to be published. First self-published then contacted by a publisher this is a dream come true for Sherryl.

*sighs* I really wanted to like this more 'cause the story with Kit and her kid was intense, and Jos is such a complicated character... which I liked about her. But it fell rather flat. The story's so incomplete and ends abruptly even with an epilogue.

Another awesome read and story, This time it's one looks at Gage and Jocelyn . Gage moves to LA to a new job as a Director in law but finds her assistant doesn't speak English well and all her paperwork is in Chinese she hires Kitas her new PA and she is excellent, But Kit is in an abusive relationship a and Gage find out and gives her her card yelling to ring her if she needs help. Meanwhile Jocelyn comes to work for her and meet sable when they go out with the group.

Gage (AKA Jock) is a 'take no prisoners' type of woman. Jocelyn (AKA Gun) is her best friend, confidant, with benefits. Better as friends than as a couple. It works for them; not so much for the women who want to be in their lives. Until Gage meets Kit and Jocelyn meets Sable (because she's friends with Gage's mother!). There's something going on with Jocelyn and that leads to the next in the series. Good writing and always good to see characters from the previous books.

I like that the author can still surprise us with so many different characters from all these books, and still finds new ones. This one was left a bid open ended for me and I'm looking forward to reading the next one. I want to find closure

Another amazing hit by Sherry Hancock. Strong butch characters with fiery femmes. You just tend to fall in love with the group. I will continue to read this series as it comes out as well as rereading it.

The Differences in Love

First I love this group of women. They are smart, strong and definitely protective of each other. Putting people in places to make decisions was awesome. Great read.

Bangarang!

I always have fun when I read about these women, whether new characters or old ones.

I am pleasantly surprised that Hancock stepped away from the typical butch/femme dynamic and introduced us to three new characters who all fall on the butch spectrum. Gage, Jocelyn, and Kit. I related very much to Gage and Jocelyn's relationship, friends-with-benefits without hearts getting broken. Well, their hearts weren't getting broken, but any woman who came along and couldn't handle their closeness was getting a broken heart. Honestly, none of that bothered me because Gage and Jocelyn were the kind of women who were up front and straight with their intentions and feelings. You can't fault them. Then there was Kit. She was adorable! The kind of cute you just want to wrap up and protect and love and cherish. And I understood Gage's feelings toward Kit to want to do that with the young woman. Kit was sweet, caring, intelligent, quick, but unsure of herself. I hate that she was stuck in a situation that a lot of women have found themselves in. An abusive marriage with a child and too scared to change things for fear of being homeless or starving. I understand... one hundred percent. Predictably, the knight swooped in and recused the damsel, and yes, it was sweet, hot, and swoon-worthy. Was it a cliché? Yes. Did I care? No. I love characters who are natural protectors and want to save the girl. WeHo has a lot of protectors.

This story ended on a cliffhanger, leaving us with a ton of questions. Well, I was left with a ton of questions. I'm holding out hope that Hancock will deliver answers in the next installment of a series I hope will never end.
