STORY:
I felt as though I was mind f$&!ed, and it’s now time to sit back, take out the cigarettes for after care. The thought process that went into this book must have been crazy. I kept imagining what the writer’s story board looks like with all these characters.
I’ll start by saying, you have to be invested in this series and the author’s style of writing and storytelling to appreciate this story. For maximized enjoyment, I definitely would say read the previous books in the series. I appreciate that Enzo’s and Allegra’s story spans a decade, so patience is key and with that patience, in between is still a beautiful story being told regardless of all the darkness. After reading book 2 Morally Blasphemous, I was scratching my head a bit. If you’ve read book 2, you know the story of Enzo and Allegra. I could not wait for the author to explain to me the scene Catalina from book 2 walked in on with Allegra. The infamous couch scene.
Part 1 The Meeting
Enzo gave me the impression, he was a bit into himself. His thought process of all these women throwing themselves at him was questionable. However, it makes sense once we get to know more. In part 1 he was likable, playful even with Allegra and I enjoyed their back and forth bickering; it was entertaining. They were both so guarded though, and I felt because of Allegra’s past, she jumped right from the frying pan into the fire in Enzo’s home.
Part 2 WTF, All Hell Broke Loose
Part 2 and even part 1 were played like chess in my mind between both characters. As we move into part 2 with Enzo and Allegra, we are still on cruise control. However, when the gears start to shift, and we move deeper into this section, I kept thinking, this can not be the same Enzo from part 1 *raised eyebrows*. Enzo evoked so many emotions from me, I love him, I detest him and then sympathize with him. He was a tortured soul. We see Enzo struggle with his demons, but following Allegra’s journey was emotional. She deserves MVC, most valuable character in this story. At 70% percent my eyes misted, how much can one person take. The climax of part 2, unreal the drama with this family, they need some serious sage.
Part 2 is like the heart beat pumping out all this information and characters. It also sheds light on a lot of details. Said details will be very disturbing. Be prepared.
Part 3 La Femme Allegra
Part 3 had me on the edge of my seat. Allegra’s transformation was epic for me. This is the climax of everything, so it was good reading it all. I will say this, I feel Enzo was more in his element in his Mafia role in book 2. Although this book had violence; I don’t feel I got to see Enzo a lot in his element with the Mafia. This story was more focused on the evolving relationship between Enzo and Allegra.
CHEMISTRY:
As much as both Enzo and Allegra were tortured souls, their physical chemistry was appealing. I am not one for the blood fetish, but Enzo and Allegra did it so well. I think they were both vampires in a former life lol.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS
Rocco, Enzo’s father, whatever. Lucia, how do I say this in the nicest way, mmmmmmmm, I will drag her outside, stone her, shoot her, take her to the hospital, get her well and do it all over again for each year she took a breath. That should convey my feelings towards her. I think Assisi’s story will be next. I am so curious with what’s going on with her and wanted to know since book 2. To all the couples from all 3 books, at the rate these couples are having kids, we might need a Next Gen series.
Overall, another good read for me by the author. For this book, it was definitely all about the storytelling and how it was conveyed to me. I am glad it had dual POV to experience both characters emotions and thoughts. Although it evoked all these emotions from me, I am please to see how it turned out.
**Triggers: torture scene, child abuse/molestation, gun violence etc.... triggers and warnings are noted by the author in the book prior to reading.
***I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read and hope this review was helpful.
