I enjoyed this book so much that I bought 6 copies for friends immediately and then a few more in the next months. I am fairly new to Colorado and just learning about what makes it so special. The history as presented in this little gem is accessible and not too big to bite off. The photos, old and new are perfect. This is not in competition with the commercial travel books out there. It is a little gold nugget written by a local that me want to go see every single site covered in the book. I'm using it as a checklist to make sure I do.

Essential Denver was such an easy, enjoyable read, and it really helped me become better acquainted with my own city. After reading this, I appreciate Denver more than ever now! Especially since we have been unable to travel, this book was so refreshing in that it allowed me to explore new places "in my own backyard," so to speak, and to approach these places with a more in-depth knowledge of the history and meaning behind them. This book was especially lovely to read in the mornings when I needed a break from news but still wanted to feel like I am learning new things and engaging with the world around me.
I would recommend Essential Denver to people who are from Denver and who may have lived here their whole lives as well as to new folks and visitors! The book has something to offer for anyone interested in this city and learning more about it.

As a Denverite myself, I found this book to be full of this city's most meaningful highlights, written in a style that is outrageously digestible and undeniably engaging. True to its description, this guide caters to all ages and backgrounds and is perfect for locals, immigrants, and visitors alike. What further elevates this book is its inclusive historical and contemporary tributes paired with the exclusive Native-Denverite footing of the author herself. I have yet to find another book that accomplishes the task of providing Denver essentials as well as this one does.

Great overview of the history and places of interest in Denver. The checklist at the back is really handy, as well as the additional information links in each section. Some of my favorite spots in Denver will included and now I have more places to explore.

One of my favorite things to do is the Crush Walls event mentioned in the book. Even if you miss the event itself, the murals are outstanding and there are many great breweries and bars along the path to quench your thirst. Enjoy Denver!!

Lisa Shultz knocked another one out of the park! Essential Denver is easy to read and packed with amazing historical facts and encouragement to deeply explore and respectfully appreciate the numerous gems in the diverse and beautiful city of Denver. As a Colorado native, I was familiar with much of the content, and the book has renewed my curiosity and enticed me to revisit many of these highlights. Lisa's enthusiasm is contagious and will leave you begging for more! I learned so much about the timeline and origination of various aspects of this glorious city, and the pictures are fantastic! The book is packed with resources and encouraging suggestions to make the most of its exploration. Even though we are living in the midst of a global pandemic, there is so much to be explored and enjoyed just from a walk or periphery view. I will definitely use the Checklist at the close of the book to make sure I don't miss anything! Five stars for this streamlined Denver resource. I am already eager for the second edition!
