I enjoyed the Seven books as I read them all together as one, part of a full boxset. You get a full sense of the world the author is trying to create with hot warriors from the bird realm.

The first, sixth and seventh books had the most in terms of story for me. The sixth book in particular had longer chapters. Otherwise they are generally novellas making them short easy to read books which is just what I needed at the moment.

In the first book you learn of Kabril who is the King of the Hawk Bird-shifter realm, you learn he is one of 8 brothers and that multiple births run in the family. They are mostly immortal and there are other bird shifter territories (Falcon, Vulture, Owls, Eagle and Doves). The books mostly centre on the Hawk shifters, although in the first book you are introduced to Lazar who is the true heir to the throne of the Falcon territory.

I found that the order of the books slightly disjointed, and in Lazar's book you learn that Gardelle might be the true mate to Lisa, but his story only comes 3 books later. Each book added to the overall story but Rossi's book was way too short for me. It was a bit of a find the girl, shag her, the end.

I know that most shifter stories there is the instant attraction, the pull to one another and I'm fine with the whole 'fated mate' idea. What I didn't like is that there is a proclamation the male characters make to the females in the heat of sex, something along the lines of do you accept me till the end of time, and if they say yes they are then wed to each other. The females aren't given much time to take in what they are being asked, and can potentially wed someone without knowing what they are agreeing to which might be fine for the first story but surely it can be explained at least once properly to the women the fates have chosen for these shifters as a mate?

I know that there is an 8th book in the works, which I'm hoping will resolve some of the loose ends. I felt there was so much more to tell about Lazar who is the true heir to the Falcons. There is a foreshadowing that he will usurpe his brother with the help of the Hawks, and there is a lot left unsaid about this brother; and the Vultures and what their villainous plans are. Rhios, Shelby's dad, also mentions something about the mother of his children being involved with the vultures somehow but it's an off-hand comment that is not explained or expanded on.

If you enjoy short easy to read shifter books then these are definitely for you

Book 1 - Kabril & Rayna
Kabril is king of his Realm and Rayna is a human vet who specialises in birds

Book 2 - Sachin & Paige
Sachin rescues Paige when she was young but keeps in touch with her as she grows up

Book 3 - Aeson & Shelby
Shelby is a schoolteacher who has visions of the future and so sometimes helps her cop brother on cases. She knows of the bird men as she is half shifter but without the ability to fly.

Book 4 - Lazar and Sabrina
Lazar is the true heir of the falco Realm and he thought his true mate dead, when in reality she has been in the human world.
A lot of potential for a more detailed story which you didn't get, I'd like to know if he does gain the throne from his half-brother.

Book 5 – Rossi and Lucy
Far too short and you actually get more to know more about Rossi in the other books. I got no sense of who Lucy was and can't remember much of who she was from this book.

Book 6 – Keonae and Lark

Book 7 - Gardelle & Lisa

I hope that in the 8th book you get a bit of a recap of the story so far.

I read the books one after the other and they more or less follow the same format, but I enjoyed them all and I also will get any others as I really am hooked to see how the story unfolds.

There is a bit of everything you want in a fantasy shifter series. Romance, action and adventure.

I read these when I needed to relax my brain and forget the outside world for a bit. They did the job nicely and I would recommend them. Can’t beat a bit of fantasy to chill you out!

Beyond Amazing!!

“King of Prey- Books 1-7” by Mandy Roth. Each and every story had an original plot which was filled with suspense, hot, alpha men, fast paced beautiful romance. I especially love the last book when most of our previous characters were present in the story. I wish there was more. I had another story listed, but I guess it was never written. I can’t find it. I hope Mandy Roth gets back to this beautiful wonderful series and gives us more.

Different and enjoyable.
I have reviewed each book separately but I also have all the box sets too.
Every story has a varied vibe with different characters and behaviours.
I haven’t loved all of them but I have liked them, even if the character was annoying.
The overall back story that runs lightly throughout is entertaining.
