When Lexi Davies discovers that her father has sold the fishermen’s cottages she runs as holiday lets and where she also lives, she is heartbroken. Then Oliver Whimsy arrives at the boardwalk and announces that he is the new owner and Lexi realises that the future she was looking forward to enjoying at her cottages is over. Oliver might be handsome, wealthy and very sexy, but he’s new to the island and has already made a terrible impression on the locals. When the Scottish entrepreneur offers Lexi a job, she’s unsure whether she should accept. Unfortunately, she has little alternative if she wants to keep a roof over her head for the winter.
As Lexi gets to know him better, she discovers there’s far more to Oliver Whimsy than she or anyone else had imagined. Just what is the heartache Oliver’s trying so desperately to hide? And why was he so determined to buy the cottages? Lexi wants to find out, but in order to do so she’s going to have to spend rather a lot of time with him…
Winter Whimsy ( I just love this title!) is the third book in Georgina Troy's series of novels set on the island of Jersey, The Boardwalk by the Sea. If you have read the previous novels, Summer Sundaes and Autumn Antics, which were about Sacha and Bella, you must have been waiting to find out more about their third friend-Lexi. Although technically the books can be read as standalones, I would recommend reading them in order as you would get a fuller experience and better understanding of the friends' life circumstances.
Twenty nine year old Lexi has recently lost her mother who left her to manage three fishermen's cottages. Popular with holidaymakers in summer and mostly empty in winter, they are Lexi's only source of income. The cottages have been passed from mother to daughter for several generations. Imagine Lexi's shock when Oliver Whimsy, a Scottish businessman, arrives to the cottages and claims Lexi's father has sold them to him. After a brief confrontation with her impractical and artistic Dad, Lexi realises that now she will have to find a new job and a new place to live. She also suspects that Gloria, her father's new girlfriend, may have had something to do with this transaction.
Oliver is very understanding. To make things better, he hires Lexi as a typist to help him work on his new business book. She can also stay in one of the cottages. Perhaps, the man isn't as bad as the island community makes him out to be. The islanders' opinions aren't easy to change, though. Lexi, however, spends much more time with him and gradually finds out what real Oliver is like (spoiler alert: he is lovely, sensitive and thoughtful) and why he was so keen to purchase the cottages.
It was great to see how Lexi's friends go out of their way to show her support. They are indeed friends for life. We also find out a bit about how Sacha's business is getting on and what Bella's relationship with her mother Claire is like now. The oldest resident on the island, ninety-year-old Betty, is as lovely as usual and it is wonderful to know that there are places where people care so much about their neighbours, old and new.
What I liked the most was the setting. Life on a small island may not be glamorous, but the nature and the island history make up for the lack of comforts. The descriptions of theweather are also wonderfully atmospheric and you get a very good feel for the bitter cold and gushing winds our characters have to deal with on a daily basis. Winter is also the season for so many marvellous holidays, including the Burns night and the villagers do seem to like a good party!
The book is very easy to read. In fact, I raced through it in half a day and now can't wait for Jool's story which is coming out in spring 2021. If you like series about groups of friends and don't mind reading about grief and changing family dynamics and love winter descriptions, this book is for you!
Thank you to Rachel from Rachel's Random Resources and the author for the gifted review copy. All opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.
Winter Whimsy is the third book in this heartwarming series but can be read as a standalone perfectly well.
This Time round the story focuses on Lexi. Lexi has just found out her father has sold her beloved Cottages off to Oliver. Her dad didn't even tell her, she found out when Oliver turned up. Which potentially has now made her jobless and homeless.
But Oliver feels terrible and comes up with a temporary solution. He asks her to help him proof read and type up his business book.
But Is there more to Oliver’s story than meets the eye. He's certainly charming and has a mysterious and Intriguing side. But can Lexi discover more about Oliver and will there simmering connection lead to romance!
I loved this book it was Charming, Cosy, Uplifting, and Heartwarming with a gorgeous setting, wonderful Characters and an Endearing Storyline. What's not to love. The perfect read to snuggle up with!

I really love this series, and it was great to be back in Jersey, with all the people from the Boardwalk by the Sea.
This book focuses on Lexi, who is one of the four friends that this series centres around, and it is now Winter, as each book has a new season, which is a great way of doing a four book series.
It was the character of Oliver Whimsy that intrigued me the most, just why has he bought the cottages from Lexi's dad, in fact why was Lexi's dad heartless enough to even sell them, and is Oliver really as bad as the limited impression we have had from him in the past?
Well these questions are of course answered, and I loved the character development from Oliver. I was also delighted to catch up with so many of the familiar faces from the previous books.
Although it has been two years since the previous, book, it really didn't take too long for me to feel back at home amongst all these characters, that I have grown to know so well and love.
I can't wait to see the conclusion of this series, and have a feeling some loose ends may be wrapped up. I'm not really happy with the way that Lexi has things with her father currently and can't help but hope there will be a better resolution in the final book.
And Lexi the heroine of this book, is just lovely, she is a good friend, and just all around nice person. Very likeable and I loved her various interactions with Oliver, as well as her family issues. And there are some ideas and gestures that make it clear what a special person she really is.
A quick and easy read, that I really did enjoy a lot.
Encompassing all the winter months and not just the lead up to Christmas, this really is an enjoyable winter's tale, with just a hint of whimsy too!
Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Winter Whimsy by Georgina Troy is an inspiring story about making the best out of a dire circumstance and finding love while at it.
It is book #3 in The Boardwalk by the Sea series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Lexi lived her whole life by the sea and had endless memories of her deceased mother and grandmother at the family-owned fisherman cottages.
She was surprised to discover that her father had sold the cottages without even consulting her.
The new owner was the wealthy Oliver Whimsy, a man Lexi knew from having refused a public wedding proposal during a friend’s party.
When Oliver learned what Lexi’s Dad had done and that she had lost her home and work, he felt guilty and hired her to help him with a book he was writing.
I liked how Lexi never blamed Oliver for buying the cottages and how gentlemanly he behaved towards her.
Lexi’s father was abhorrent and got on my nerves more than once. I was impressed by how mature, and pleasant Lexi was in all her dealings with him.
I have not read the other books in the series, but I enjoyed the sense of friendship and community and really liked the other couples that were probably formed in the previous books.
The atmosphere is very well described, and I confess I had to tuck under my blankie because I could feel the cold snow and the wind.
Winter Whimsy is a snowy and inspiring holiday read.
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I have read by this author. While it is the third in the Boardwalk By The Sea series, I read and enjoyed it as a standalone story. I greatly enjoyed getting lost in the lovely descriptions of the Jersey coastline. The characters were likeable, especially the leads Lexi and Oliver. I also liked the community around the Boardwalk and the touch of snow that added that all-important wintery feel. The ending was warm and cosy; overall, the story offered a moment of escapism at this time, when we can all do with a big hug and a smile.
I absolutely love discovering new authors and Georgina Troy is a new author for me. I didn’t realise when I agreed to take part in the blog tour for ‘Winter Whimsy’ that this is actually the third book in the ‘The Broadwalk By The Sea’ series. The fact that it is part of a series didn’t put me off taking part in the tour. As soon as I had the necessary reading cup of tea, I gabbed my Kindle and settled down for what I hoped would be a fabulous read. I was spot on as it was a fabulous read and then some. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Winter Whimsy’ but more about that in a bit. As soon as I started to read the story, I just knew that I was in for a treat. I had taken so well to Lexi Davies that I began to think of her as a friend. I felt compelled (in the nicest possible way) to keep reading to see how life panned out for her. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. II became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and I didn’t realise just how quickly I was getting through the story. The first time I looked up to check I was staggered to realise that I had actually cleared a third of the story in one reading binge. It didn’t take me long to get to the end of the story and than I had to say goodbye to Lexi and her friends. ‘Winter Whimsy’ is really well written. Georgina certainly knows how to grab your attention from the start and draw you into what proves to be a feel good, cozy and heart warming story. For me, reading this book felt more like a chat between friends rather than reading an actual book. I hope that makes sense. Georgina made ‘The Broadwalk By The Sea’ come alive and sound so idyllic that I was all for packing a case and jetting off for a holiday there. I felt as though I was part of the story and that’s thanks to Georgina’s very vivid and realistic storytelling. I found ‘Winter Whimsy’ to be a delight to read and on finishing the book, I felt as though I had had a hug from a mug, leaving me feeling all fuzzy and warm inside. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Winter Whimsy’ and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Georgina’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
This is book three in the boardwalk by the sea series, so I came in very late to this series but it read perfectly as a standalone for myself and gives me the option to go back to the previous two books. Woo hoo. I absolutely loved it. This story focuses on Lexi who owns and rents out some lovely cottages in this beautiful small town on an island. The description of this place sounds amazing. Friendly town, friendly community, beautiful settings and views. Add a dash of snow and winter. Bingo. One to cosy up with. Lexi soon finds herself in a situation however which introduces us to Oliver. Phew. What a man. Let's see what happens now eh? He's certainly one to watch! Not like a lot of blokes. He was a lovely, charming and open character from the start for me. Throughout this story you really get the whole community coming together all helping each other which is lovely. A beautiful ending. A cosy, warm, uplifting read. A well deserved four stars from me.
I would just like to say a very big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for forwarding me a copy of this book for my Kindle in return for an honest review. Even though this book is part of a four book series, I did read it without reading the others and was still able to follow what was happening. Lexi and her friends were wonderful characters and I loved how everything was beautifully described and made it all very heart warming. This was a wonderful Winter story - with a tiny hint of whimsy!!!
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Zip up your puffer coat, winter has arrived!

My Opinion
It was nice to visit The Boardwalk By The Sea again, whilst this is the third book in the series it could easily be read as a standalone - although for the best experience it would be better to read them in order.
This was a quick and easy read. With the cold weather described in this book I would recommend having a blanket on hand. So far, I have enjoyed reading this series and I am looking forward to seeing what comes in the next book.
Thank you to @rachelsrandomresources for a #giftedkindlecopy of this book by @ajerseywriter.
This is the 3rd book in the series I haven't read any of the others and enjoyed this one as a standalone no problem but will definetley go back and read the others too.
Lexi davies discovers that her father has sold the fisherman cottages where she lives and works from under her to Oliver whimsy who had appeared in a previous book and who not many people like.
Lexi is extra distraught as the cottages belonged to her mother's mum and they were used as holiday let's and now with both her gran and mum dead she feels extra hurt that he would sell them and not tell her. But luckily lexi and Oliver come to an arrangement about work and her living there.
You get lots of lovely descriptions of jersey were the book is set. You get lots of fun and laughter ad you go through the book as well.
I really enjoyed this book and whizzed through it in a day I could not put it down.
Most books set by the sea take place in summer but the winter setting for Winter Whimsy is simply perfect reading for this time of year. It was great to see the characters 'out of season' and that the story takes place over several months, not just Christmas.
Georgina Troy's writing style carries the reader along and is as light and crisp as the first snowfall of the year. Her characters are so well drawn that I spent most of the book really disliking Lexi's father for selling the cottages. I like how Lexi is independent and doesn't just take the easy option offered and by the end of the book, the author skillfully makes us feel a little bit sorry for Lexi's father.
Another fairy cute story with the Jersey boardwalk setting. More new characters introduced and some dubious characters as well. The romance wasn’t very romantic, not much happening there. But a nice quirky village to read about.
This is book three in the Boradwalk series and my first time visiting! Winter Whimsy focuses on Lexi - she has lived by the sea all her live and takes care of her late mothers three fisherman's cottages that are used at tourists lets during season. He mother died in a car crash so these houses are her legacy, but she has the rug pulled from under her feet when Oliver Whimsy arrives on her doorstep announcing he is the new owner of the cottages! Lexi's father has sold them without even telling her, leaving her without a home and a job! It appears her fathers new girlfriend Gina may have had a hand to play it all this happening.
Oliver and come to an agreement that allows her to work for him until the summer season starts, which gives her a few months to work out what she is going to do. During their time together you can feel the chemistry between them and it was only natural how their relationship progressed.
Lexi and her friends all live in this delightful location, and you really get a feel for the island life and community spirit. Set in the midst of winter this book will leave you feeling all cozy and warm as you follow Lexi and Oliver's story.
I cannot believe this is my first time visiting the Boardwalk and its inhabitants. This is the book I didn’t know I needed this weekend. It was like chocolate for the soul and melted my heart whilst soothing away the stress. Despite being new in time I felt welcomed, like an old friend being enveloped into the bosom of the community. Each character has a different personality and brings a new spark into the mix. I adored the protagonists Oliver and Lexi. Oliver has a cheeky side to him that I was completely attracted to and he’s honest and sweet. Lexi had a nasty shock in the beginning of the story and I really felt for her. It left her vulnerable but to be honest, it did push her to think about her own life a little too. She is lucky to be surrounded by a wonderful community of friends and I have to say my favourite is Jack. He is so funny and energetic. The setting is so wintery but delightful. The markets, café, a walk by the Sea and picturesque and unique cottages paint such a perfect and cosy picture. The delicious food and drinks served in the café followed by a peruse around the second hand bookshop make this somewhere I would love to be all year around. The plot does span over Christmas but it isn’t a huge part so this is a perfect novel for this time of year. It’s completely uplifting and wonderful and I cannot wait to return to The Boardwalk and visit again. I am definitely off to buy the previous books in the series. Highly recommended for a little bit of indulgence and escape.
While the cover posted on Netgalley conveys the idea that this is a Christmas story, it was disappointing that the holiday plays a very minor role in the novel.
The setting is Jersey, one of the Channel Islands near the coast of France, in the bitter cold of winter. A native to the island, Lexie Davies manages three small cottages that are the legacy of her beloved grandmother and mother. When she discovers that her father has sold the properties without her knowledge, she is thrown off course. Not only has she lost her source of income, but also her home. With the support of her friends and Oliver Whimsy, the handsome new owner of the cottages, she creates a modicum of stability as she determines her future, which includes confronting her father’s duplicity.
This is the third installment in The Boardwalk by the Sea series with the promise of a fourth to follow. I have not read the first two books and felt I was missing significant context and content in this story; it does not do well as a stand-alone novel. This was a “okay” read, but it did not hold my interest for the following reasons: the pacing is slow; there is much repetition; the characters were not engaging; the resolution of the conflict Gloria, Alexie’s father’s girlfriend, was unrealistic; and the romantic outcome was predictable.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
BLURB: When Lexi Davies discovers that her father has sold the fishermen’s cottages that she lives in and runs as holiday lets, she is furious and heartbroken. Lexi realises that her whole future at her beloved cottages is now over. New owner, handsome, Scottish entrepreneur Oliver Whimsy arrives on the island in a blaze of glory and immediately upsets the locals. When he offers Lexi her old job, she’s unsure whether to accept but needing a roof over her head for the winter, she finds herself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Pride does not pay the bills. As they get to know one another, there’s far more to Oliver Whimsy than she or anyone else had imagined. What heartache is Oliver trying so desperately to hide from? And why was he so determined to buy the cottages? Lexi is on a mission to find out…
REVIEW: This was a cute read. Set on a small island, the book follows Lexi and Oliver, and a supporting cast of likeable characters.
Finding out her father had sold her livelihood to Oliver was a shock for Lexi, but is Oliver really as bad as everyone seems to think? It was nice getting to know both Lexi and Oliver better and I enjoyed the way their romance blossomed.
I’ve never heard of this author, but this is book three in a series, and can obviously be read as a stand-alone. A sweet, easy, fuss-free read, easily finished in an hour.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this in return for my honest review.
So charming, what is not to love when you live in a brilliant cottage on the boardwalk overlooking the breathtaking sea. Going out your front door, the sea spray cools you and the view is amongst the best you've ever seen. Lexi Davies seems to be living the charmed life, living on the boardwalk in a cottage and renting out the other two is the perfect supplemental income for her. It's also the last link to her mother she has left as they were owned by her mother and passed onto to her. When she finds out her father has sold them out from under her, she is more than devastated. Sold to a Scotsman, Oliver has his reasons for buying them and it's actually a pretty good one. Would it be weird to start to have romantic feelings for him? Would he think it was weird? Would she lose her friendship that is newly started? Ugh, so much to think about, should she try to take that first step? When something unexpected happens in her family will she embrace the changes, or will it be a hinderance to all she has accomplished so far? A heartwarming rom com about the choices you make not only affecting yourself but those closest to you. Warmth, family, choices, personal growth and friendships all blossom in the gorgeous book.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
About the Book: Lexi runs a group of holiday cottages in The Boardwalk by the Sea that her Gran and her mom ran before her. Her mom suddenly passed away 2 years ago and her father has recently started dating. Without Lexi’s knowledge Lexi’s dad has sold the cottages to Oliver Whimsey, a non native of this close knit town. Now Lexi is without a home or job. Oliver offers her a job to help type the manuscript of his book. As Oliver and Lexi spend together, the closer they become.
My Thoughts: ❄️First of all let me say I think having a 4 book series set around the seasons is brilliant and just for that I would read the other books to see what the town looks like year round. ❄️ This is written so that I really became invested in all the characters and their interactions. I really like Oliver, he is just a good guy! I’m really angry at Jeff, Lexi’s dad! ❄️The description of the town in its winter season is very well done. I felt like I was walking the streets, bundled up, ready to grab a hot chocolate at the cafe. ❄️ The story is great, the romance is sweet and now I’ll be buying the other books.. @rachelsrandomresources thank you for a copy to review
What a wonderful treat Winter Whimsy is. I felt like I was with Lexie and her friends and the mysterious, brooding Oliver Whimsy in their idyllic boardwalk seafront homes. I love the fact that I'll be able to visit some of the other characters in the series in the other books. The unique Jersey setting helps make this story stand out from many others and I couldn't wait to see how things would work out for Lexie. You won't be disappointed! Winter Whimsy is like a warm, cosy blanket being wrapped around you as you read. A wonderful feel good contemporary romance with a solid emotional story running through it when Lexie falls out with her father and his new girlfriend. You'll love the relationships between all the friends, and wish that you could take a vacation and stay at the Boardwalk in Jersey yourself. A definite 5 stars from me. Thank you to the author and publisher for the review copy.
I loved this book as I admit to being a fan of all Georgina Troy's books. She has a knack of of finishing all the ends to her stories. I particularly like how the girls are so close and look out for each other. Lexi and Oliver were meant to be together. They certainly went through so many trials before they realised it. Christmas and Valentine's Day came together nicely and was not the traditional way. So looking forward to the next book all about Jools. Well done Georgina another well deserved review.
This is the third entry in The Boardwalk by the Sea series and you may find it helpful to read the first two books, as many of the same characters make an appearance here. This is a gentle and sweet romance that begins when Lexi discovers that her father has sold the three cottages she manages as holiday rentals to Oliver who did not make a great impression when they met a few months earlier. Faced with an uncertain future, Lexi tries to make the best of the situation.
Very poorly written book. Non-existent/incorrect punctuation throughout the book meaning I had to keep re-reading sentences to make sense of story line - so annoying. Missing/duplicated words, wrong names... Story plots not developed fully and fizzled out at the end. You need to use a decent proof reader and try reading what you write yourself!
This was a lovely uplifting story and despite not having read the others in the series, I’ve loved getting to know Lexi and her friends. Lexi and Oliver have such an honest relationship and I loved how their friendship grew. Jersey is described beautifully and was so captivating in this Wintery read. I’m looking forward to catching up with the rest of the series and visiting the Boardwalk again.
It's a good guide to Jersey seeing through Lexis eyes the sights and landscapes would like a bit more about the boardwalk these stories would appeal to some people the books seem to join together and love finds away to join two opposites together
