I love romantic suspense, so “secrets and lies” was a perfect prompt for me. I went digging through my category romances and came up with one that has a rather unusual twist. I’ve dealt with books that have big secrets or people living double lives, but could your whole life be a lie without you realizing it? That’s the premise of Dangerous Deception.

Rachel Garrett appears content with her life in small town Oregon. She works at a coffee shop in Sleepy Cove. It’s the kind of town where everyone seems to know everyone – and Rachel’s friends are all loyal and protective of her. Rachel suffered a terrible car accident some months prior to the main action of the story, but her friends have helped her get back on her feet.

Rachel’s peace is interrupted by a mysterious man she has seen standing outside and watching the coffee shop. One day he is able to speak to her, and tells her that her entire life is a lie. He calls her by another name and tells her that everything she thinks she knows about her past is completely made up. This part of the story drew me right in because Rachel’s uneasiness over this stranger’s claims felt very real. Like most people, she felt sure of who she was but she also can’t help being curious. And because she’s curious, she starts digging.

The book starts off strong. While there are some things about Rachel’s life that feel a little bit off, the story is full of believable details about her backstory. Rachel has a cozy apartment, with a few mementos of her earlier life, such as her childhood Bible. Sure, Rachel’s boss and BFF seems a little overprotective, but then again, Rachel lost her parents as a child and she herself had a bad car accident some time ago. Her life seems to make sense and yet she cannot help but want to figure out what is going on with this mysterious Michael Sullivan who keeps telling her that he thinks she is someone else.

Not your run-of-the-mill amnesia story.

Squeeeppp! Another fantastic fresh voice in the Love Inspired Suspense line. And -- whoooheeeeee -- but this is one crazy amazing read. It starts out all foreshadowy -- "The stranger was trouble. Rachel knew that the moment she saw him." but then it seems kinda more mysterious than suspenseful as the author lulls us into a cozy reading place and then...WHAM...reader whiplash.

And there's so many things I want to say but I don't want to spoil it for you so I won't. There are twists and turns and some lovely romantical pacing culminating in a toe-curling, furious-fanning frenzy that made me dizzy with delight. Happy, happy sigh. Meanwhile the mystery just gets curiouser and curiouser. A very clever spin on a classic suspense trope.

Imagine living life in a small town and then one day a stranger shows up and tells you that you have been brainwashed and everything you believe is a huge lie. What a load to take in! All of a sudden you can no longer trust anyone and nothing makes sense.

This was the first book I had read by Evelyn M. Hill and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Every minute. I love suspense and this one ticked every box. I look forward to more from this author.

Dangerous Deception by Evelyn Hill is a thrilling contemporary Christian romantic suspense that will have you questioning as you read.
The novel concerns truth, lies and trust. A character finds trust in short supply as she wonders just who is telling her the truth. Everything she has built her life on comes into question. Life is confusing but one thing she does know is that she can trust God to light the road ahead. This shows that it is important for us to have firm foundations in our lives.
Confusion is the order of the day as a character is told two completely different scenarios. The character leans on God, knowing that “The Lord knew her even if she did not know herself.”
If fear rules our lives we may become inactive. We need to face our fears in order to move steadily forwards.
Dangerous Deception was a nail biting read as I had to separate the truth from the lies. It was an exciting read for a gloomy autumnal afternoon.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

This book intrigued me from the very beginning. I knew this was my jam right away. Rachel thinks her life is pretty good. Little does she realize that it is far from normal. When a man shows up in town claiming she is Nora, a scientist, she thinks he is the crazy one. But she soon realizes that the people around her have been lying to her and all is not what it seems.

Wow, is all I can say!

I was so enthralled with this book. I wish it had been longer just so I could savor the awesomeness of it all. I am not sure if this is Evelyn’s first book but I think it is the first one in this line. She is just the type of author I love! I can’t wait to see more from her. Definitely a book I will remember!

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Dangerous Deception. This is the first book of Evelyn's I have ever read but I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of her work. This story is well written, action packed, and full of faith. I know you are going to love this one.

Rachel Garrett has the perfect life. A job she loves, a town full of friends, and wonderful memories of her family. Unfortunately she suffers from an anxiety disorder brought on by an accident when she woke up in a hospital in Sleepy Cove. The whole town seem to want to care for her. Then suddenly everything is turned upside down when a man comes to town and seems to be stalking her. He tells her Rachel isn't her name and everything she has been told is a lie. Can she trust this man? All of her friends tells her not to listen and then she finds someone is trying to abduct her.

US Marshal Michael Sullivan is searching for his fiancee. She had just disappeared. Now he has found her but she has been brainwashed and drugged. She doesn't believe him. Is the whole town involved in this deception? How can he convince her that she is a doctor not a waitress.

A terrifying journey as men chase her and her mind is doing strange things. Is she going insane? Where are the nightmares coming from? Who can be after her and why? Can he protect her? God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life. God can make a way when there is no way.

You will wonder who is right - Michael Sullivan who claims to be a federal marshal and believes he has located his missing fiancee, a research scientist, or the waitress who claims to be Rachel Garrett. Why do people "protect" Rachel all the time and never let her be out alone? Can she trust a doctor who keeps her medicated? I recommend Dangerous Deception to others who enjoy suspense. I won my copy of Dangerous Deception by Evelyn M. Hill in a giveaway. This is my honest opinion,

I really enjoyed this clean, Love-Inspired, Suspenseful romance. I bought this from our local Goodwill store, and I've given it a 5* rating. The bad guys in this created a tangled web of lies on this one. Lots of twists and turns to pull you in and keep you reading and a pretty nice ending. It's tied up pretty good at the ending, but not too tight. Still a few questions to think upon.

Money and Fame causes more trouble.

Wanting to be famous was the reason why a young Womans Life was almost completely erased. When love came back to her,, her feelings remembered even when she was totally convinced to be another woman.

Dangerous Deception

This was a good story , however, it had a rambling tendency to it that threw the story off kilter for me.

Wow! I loved this book! It was exciting and scary. It was very well written. I really was intrigued by all the people involved in trying to keep her from remembering who she is. I read this book in one day. That never happens for me. I just couldn't put it down.

A very interesting story line

It is so refreshing to read this story about a person who faces the loss of her identity and the struggle with fear.
This story could continue in another. It would be interesting to explore further the implications of the product on others.

She doesn't believe him. But can she trust him?

Let me just start off by saying that Dangerous Deception was one of the most interesting Love Inspired Suspense novels that I've ever read. Amnesia is a well used plot device in romantic suspense but it's almost always attributed to an injury or a traumatic event that the brain wishes to forget. I think this may be the first time that it may be drug and brainwashing induced. I loved it!

Evelyn M. Hill is not exactly a new-to-me author but this is a new genre and I have to say that she does just as good with romantic suspense as she did with historical romance. I was kept guessing, which is always a fun part of reading, and, boy, was I in for a few surprises!

I sincerely enjoyed Dangerous Deception and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any Love Inspired Suspense fan or romantic suspense lover. I, for one, can't wait to read more from Evelyn M. Hill, she's good!

(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)
