Time is running out for Erica to save Archer's Peak, both from its monster infestation and from the occupation of the Order of St. George. Will Erica be forced to finally stop being a lone wolf and accept help from unlikely allies?
Prior to his first professional work, Tynion was a student of Scott Snyder's at Sarah Lawrence College. A few years later, he worked as for Vertigo as Fables editor Shelly Bond's intern. In late 2011, with DC deciding to give Batman (written by Snyder) a back up feature, Tynion was brought in by request of Snyder to script the back ups he had plotted. Tynion would later do the same with the Batman Annual #1, which was also co-plotted by Snyder. Beginning in September 2012, with DC's 0 issue month for the New 52, Tynion will be writing Talon, with art by Guillem March. In early 2013 it was announced that he'd take over writing duties for Red Hood and the Outlaws in April.
Tynion is also currently one of the writers in a rotating team in the weekly Batman Eternal series.
4.25 stars. This continues to be in my top 5 ongoing series. We are at a point now with each issue a little more is unpacked and more threats are added to an already bleak situation. Can’t get enough of this.
Picking Hoopla borrows for the month is always a task, I feel like I never have enough borrows to read everything I want but also I never have enough time to read everything I want, but this month I wanted to be sure to pick up the next issue of Something is Killing the Children! I am still really enjoying this graphic novel series and I am always finding that I want more and more answers with each issue. Before we jump into a summary and my thoughts, there is a review up for all previous issues here and on Goodreads! If you are interested in this series I definitely recommend checking it out from the start!
SPOILERS AHEAD
Returning to our already dire situation, we begin to learn how the monsters came to be and see Erica trying to save the town, and the people, and keep the rest of her group from coming into town. But it’s much too late, they are already on their way. Now Erica just needs to try to wrap up all of this stuff and save the town before they arrive, and if she can not will she be able to accept help from them to save the town? Or will they take over the situation and do whatever needs to be done to save whatever is left of the town when they arrive?
This issue just gave us a bit more insight on what might be coming and how we got here with the monsters. I am still very curious about House of Slaughter (and have used another Hoopla borrow to be able to read the first volume of that series, in hopes to learn a little more). I know there are still several more issues for me to read so I am not sure how things will wrap up at this point but I can not wait to see where we are headed in this journey. I plan to pick up the next issue as soon as I have some more Hoopla borrows!
We get a vague explanation of how the monsters come to be and it is very exciting. I could have guessed that but I was in it for the ride and forgot to turn on my brain. This issue advances the plot tremendously and I am very impatient to see how it ends. Definitely one of the top series to follow right now.
The times seem to keep getting darker and darker in Something Is Killing the Children #12. An impressive feat, given the title and nature of the series. This is a world where monsters are real—and very, very hungry.
Erica Slaughter has done her best to keep the monsters, and worse, at bay. But everything is continuing to spiral out of control, as more monsters make appearances, all while more people begin to learn the truth of what is happening to one previously sleepy town.
Admittedly, this series is not for the faint of heart, yet it has been a thrilling horror series. One that very much lives up to its name and the promises made.
I’m confused. So a child’s thoughts create the monsters? Is that how the Order of St. George was formed? The members were children who saw them? Why is that Order desperate to keep this all contained. Geez, these single issues are getting shorter and shorter! Need to know what happens next!
I need the next issue stat, but it doesn't release into print until tomorrow and I don't know how long after that before the digital copy will be up on Hoopla. Sad Panda!
We finally start to see a bit more of what the mysterious order of Saint George does in the current storyline...I can't say it's all things good. Matter of fact, I'll agree with Erica and say they are downright bad people. Read on to find out more...if you dare!! 💀
Uh, well...that was kinda dumb. Here I was expecting some kind of well thought out rationale behind the monster, and, it's just...tell a scary story and they pop into existence? Okay.
