What I adored about Standby is that the heroine kept doing *smart things.* I’m so tired of seeing romance heroines who run straight towards danger or who avoid great advice when it’s given to them. Shayla is that rare heroine who actually follows advice when she’s given it, who does the smart thing to protect herself, and who acts intelligently when she’s in a dangerous situation. I can’t overstate what a breath of fresh air that is in a romance novel, and heaven bless Jameson for delivering this!
Shayla’s hero Jake is equally wonderful. He understands the danger Shayla is in when she’s being gaslighted by a former lover, and he goes into alpha-protective mode just when it’s needed. Shayla and Jake do fall in love really quickly, but the intensity of their situation and the clever bet they make not to fall into bed right away makes this setup work.
I really appreciated that the suspense part of this book didn’t drag out. Instead, the focus is on the focused interaction Shayla and Jake are forced into due to the threat against her and what results from that.
There are some minor quibbles with Runway; at the end, I can’t see how Shayla would be comfortable in bed with Jake when her body has endured some damage. But that’s a small price to pay when a book has two really smart people who do mature things that, you know, most of us would do when placed in these situations. To see that in a romance is a rare treat that I wish we’d find more often!
Shayla had made a wrong decision when she partnered up with pilot Hawke. When she told Jake she didn't expect him to want her to go home with him because he was scared Hawke might hurt her. He was wanting her to go out with him. He was very polite and caring of her and tried to help her get Hawke to quit texting her and being abusive. She didn't know Hawke was married until Jake found out by checking his records. She later received a call from his wife which Jake set up for her and she had seen his phone and how many times he'd called her and and she told her how many he had done that way. She said she was not going back home but her 2 children were at her parents house and for safety she'd call him from there to tell him she was leaving him. Shayla had a flight from Dallas to Seattle and when they arrived she and the other flight attendant had supper together but their rooms were in different parts of the hotel they were going to change clothes and meet back at Shayla's room. When she went close her door Hawke was there and knocked her out and kidnaped Shayla and took her to a cabin he owned. Jake found out where it was and rescued her .He later tried get her & Shot self.
Shayla made a big mistake when she started seeing senior pilot Hawke Richman. They never went out, they had hookups when they were in the same place. Shayla broke it off, but he won't leave her alone. Everyone has noticed the changes in her and they're worried about her. She won't open up about it, not even to her closest friend. Friends who have heard the rumors Hawke is spreading.
Jake has wanted to go out with Shayla since they first met, but she was seeing someone so he really couldn't make a play for her. He has a feeling they are perfect for each other. With that in mind he decides to find out the truth about what's going on with her.
Once Shayla has opened up and lets him see the texts and listen to the voicemails, Jake is concerned for her safety. He talks her into staying with him while he figures out Hawkes motives. There's no way this man hasn't done this before and Shayla's concerns about being fired must be the same reason no one else has said anything.
I love the way Jake and the guys handle this even as thing escalate.
Plenty of intrigue, some action and that simmer to sizzle romance I love so much!
Another great read in the Open Skies series, "Standby" which is the fourth book. I honestly couldn't stop reading for wanting to know more about Shaylas problem and the Developing feelings for Jake. Developing an attraction for someone who was dating another was happening with Jake. Shayla was dating a jerk of a pilot who she broke up with months ago but with everything that's happening with him she wasn't ready to move on into another relationship. That jerk of an ex boyfriend was starting rumors and harassing her. She believed everything was her fault, which it wasn't. Jake decided she would stay with him after reading the disturbing text messages from the ex boyfriend and all at once starting a relationship with her. Especially when it came out they both found each other droolworthy. To find out what happens with the ex boyfriend and there budding relationship I believe as a reader you should find out. I highly recommend this book.
I was given an advanced reader copy this book for my honest review.
Another wonderful addition to this series Shayla had recently come out of an abusive relationship and was slowly rebuilding her dented confidence; she is still trying to stay clear of him but Jake is continually making his presence known and it is becoming extremely wearing. She is too embarrassed to ask anyone for their help or to even talk to anyone about the problems she has been having. However, Shayla knows as the threatening messages and behaviour increase, she has to be more proactive and she tells Hawke about her stalker. This has been a simply riveting read and I know that you will find yourself like me unable to put the book down once you start. It draws you in and you find yourself reading whilst holding your breath as you hope the culprit gets what he deserves. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Another amazing instalment of the Open Skies series. Shayla has lost her outgoing and happy demeanour and her friends want to know why. Jake has had his eye on shayla for months but hasn’t taken it further as she’s always been taken. When he finds out she’s currently single and he retreated into herself he goes to find out why. The answers are shocking and threaten any budding romance they might have
Loved this edition of the series. What actually struck me was the theme of sexual harassment in the work place and how women still aren’t taken seriously. Especially when it comes to someone in a high ranking position. I totally loved the support and love the Jake gave to Shayla and I totally loved all their snarky banter. Have a few giggles. As always I love how their team pull together and how the girls all rally round when required.
In Standby, Becca Jameson shines the spotlight on workplace sexual harassment and why so many women refrain from reporting it. Even in today's environment, harassment is still prevalent and it's a "he said-she said" situation and most women are not willing to risk their jobs to report it. This premise made for an interesting, intriguing and suspenseful story.
Despite being interested in one another Jake and Shayla's timing has always been off. Now she's free and he is determined to start dating her. He's also determined to keep her safe from a stalker who seems to be escalating. Together they do a little digging and find out there are other victims of this man as well as a bombshell bit of information that no one saw coming. Spending time together and getting to know one another gives them both what they're longing for...real love.
Jake has been interested in Shayla from the beginning but he never asked her out for one reason or another. Just recently he finds out that she has been single for 3 months but something is up with her and she isn't sharing. When Jake finds out she is being staked by the pilot she dumped 3 months ago he moves her into his house to protect her. The only problem is, he doesn't want her to think he is only in it for a one-night stand. A deal is made to keep their hands to themselves but Shayla is determined to win. A stalker gets closer and loses his temper as things get hotter between Jake and Shayla.
Jake is a bit dominant and Shayla seems intrigued. She is exotic and sexy and very secure with who she is. She and Jake heat up the sheets and the pages when they finally get together.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Standby . This story is well written and I really like the characters . Jake has been interested in Shayla for months but unfortunately she was dating someone . Shayla broke up with Hawk months ago but he doesn't take the hint not only is he abusive but he sends messages and threats . Jake goes to Shayla and questions her because she's not acting herself . She breaks down and tells him what's been going on . He takes her safety in hand and has her stay with him . They both have feelings for each other but they want to deal with Hawks first . This story is suspenseful and intense . It's really action packed . I highly recommend reading this story .
Open Skies series book 4 a must read of all 1-4 loved the characters and romance and action packed with Open Skies team and the Westside programmers team and ex military personnel. In this book we meet Shayla Cosman a open skies flight attendants who loves her job ,loves the team she has until she mixes business with pleasure and gives in to the pilot Hawke Richman who doesn't take no for answer and starts making Shayla life unbearable. Jake Robinson aka Tank the owner of Westside programmers and a great team finally meets Shayla and there story evolves into their own journey. the song by Stand by you - Rachel platten sums up the whole book. Excellent storyline touching and emotion emotional and an impact on everyday lives . Be safe
Sometimes bad things happen no matter how many times you do the right and smart things. This is the situation Shayla is in. Months after breaking up with a coworker she's still being targeted. I really liked that this book mirrored society. Multiple women being stalked and gaslighted by a man in a senior position know that they will be made the 'bad guy'. So they don't go public. I love that Shayla did everything she should do. She protected herself. Then Jake gets involved and she doesn't have to do it all on her own anymore. Yes, this book speaks of current events and society, but at the heart of it there are a group of friends who are there for each other and will do whatever they have to in order to take care of each other. This makes the story very believable. The relationship between Jake and Shayla was just so sweet and flirty and fun that this was a very enjoyable standalone read.
This was a wonderful story of Jake and Shayla. He’s been wanting to ask her out but she has a boyfriend. So he just waits. But then they break up and he goes to ask her out and finds out her ex is threatening her because he wants her back. He asks her to move in with him so that he can help keep her safe. She agrees and as they spend together getting to know each other. They become closer and want to be more but will he ex leave her alone? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
WOW! Another awesome Open Skies book and probably my new favorite in the series. The chemistry between Shayla and Jake is off the charts.. oh and throw in Jake will not allow touching for a week to give them time to get to know each other ... the tension. Shayla has a stalker but she does not want anyone to know. She refuses to do what is needed to put a stop to it thinking it will go away. Jake makes it his mission to protect her. But can he save her? I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.
This has been a good series with each book about a different couple. In this one, Jake steps in to protect Shayla when her ex won't stop harassing her. She's reluctant to report her ex's abuse and harassment since she doesn't think anyone will believe her. Victim blaming and shaming is real. The story takes some twists and turns as Jake works to protect her and make her see he wants something forever with her. Another HEA in the series.
I love romance books. This one is just as tense and written beautifully as the rest I've read. When you write an interesting story line that is amazing. I also love the type of men brought in the stories as well. I like that there is airlines involved giving more story lines to be brought in.
Standby is the fourth book in Becca Jameson’s Open Skies series. This is Shayla and Jake’s story. Shayla is going through some serious and difficult things with a former relationship. Jake steps in to protect and help Shayla. This is a beautifully written alpha hero story.
Book 4 and we get Jake and Shayla's story. Jake has wanted to ask Shayla out for awhile but she's been dating a guy named Hawke. She breaks up with him and when Jake finds out he goes to ask her out but, he finds out her ex is calling and sending her threating texts. Jake asks her to move in with him till they get this taken care of. This has a great storyline with great characters and it's wonderful seeing how their going to make their relationship work. There's humor, some action, and seeing them come into their own make this book worth reading.
Each book in this series is a variation on a theme. Drama, trauma and the man trying to convince the woman they should be together despite their issues.
A fmc that actually does something for herself and doesn’t just sit around waiting for her psycho ex to show up should actually be the standard in a story in this book. Very spicey 4/5🌶️, good read
