In Hate With My Boss

Rate this book
There are three things I know about Owen Bennett:

He’s worth billions.

He’s smoking hot.

He’s a total asshole.

Oh, and he’s my new boss. Which, I guess is technically four things. But who’s counting? Not Owen. Because all he can do is stare at my chest and make rude comments. He’s unprofessional, lazy, and the single most infuriatingly sexy man I’ve ever met in my life. That’s a thing, right? Hating him and wanting to end up in his bed all at the same time? Which can not happen. He’s my boss for one. And two, I hate him, did I say that already?

Either way, I’ve got 90 days to impress him enough to keep my job or find something new. The problem is, that I’m not great at keeping my mouth shut. And also, I think my libido might be stronger than my willpower.

Send help. And chocolate. And please for the love of everything talk me out of going home with my boss.

In Hate With My Boss is a full length, stand alone, steamy romantic comedy with no cheating or cliffhangers.

This is so bad, I don't even know what's worse: the writing, the plot or the inconsistencies.

TERRIBLE

The author wastes over half of this book with a ridiculous hate/attraction storyline. When these two finally get together is makes no sense and never feels real. Then there is the disgusting male lead who is of course promiscuous that no self respecting, intelligent woman would touch with a 10’ pole. The sophomoric vocabulary to describe sex is embarrassing. I skimmed more than half of this mess. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Keeping score
This book is about Taylor and Owen. The guy in front of her in line at the coffee shop is taking FOREVER, monopolising the time and coffee and sweet treats from the café’s other patrons, including her. And, she’s running late for a meeting with her new boss. She thinks he must be some rich snob who got the job through his billionaire hedge fund manager daddy buying out the company.
Taylor works for Indie Nomad, which started as a small, family-run fair trade, organic cosmetics company. After the boss Kevin’s wife passed away suddenly, he lost interest in the company and looked to sell. She tried to talk him out of selling it, but it was a very lucrative offer. So now she’s stuck with someone she assumes is going to be a nightmare to work for or be around! When she finally makes it to her meeting late, after being stopped by the CEO’s new assistant and security, she realises the obnoxious guy from the coffee shop is her new boss, Owen Bennett. Oops!
Both of them go to their best friends for advice on how to proceed with each other. The meeting was uncomfortable and both tried to put the other in their place in a way. They challenged each other and didn’t relent at all. It was highly amusing, and obviously a huge turn-on for them.
From here, they attend a ball together, for both of their benefits. This is interrupted with a family drama for Taylor which was somewhat worrying. But Owen was there to support her, and they took their relationship (or whatever you would call it), to the next steamy level. The morning after is more than awkward as their inner monologues question what could be happening, what they would LIKE to see happen, and contemplating how things may be different once they return to New York and work…
This story was fun and funny…The Pride and Prejudice references and banter had me giggling! It was also a great mix of dramatic, emotion-filled, sweet and steamy. I was disappointed to see it end, and I would have loved to see what happens next, or further down the track. I give this book four and three quarter surprising stars.

This book where the forced hate between the MCs becomes some pretty hot chemistry was a nice light read. I doubt in a couple of months time it will stand out. I read almost a book a day and this was a pretty typical and predictable romance.

There were positives. Owen becomes a better man as a result of his relationship with Taylor. They do have good chemistry. Owen is actually pretty good to Taylor once they get together. Taylor continues to doubt him at times, though. It was annoying she couldn't trust him to not make the wrong assumptions. She is very quick to make assumptions the entire book and over react to them.

There is a bit of the story where Owen spends time with her family. That's pretty cute.

The HEA is predictable but just right.

Unfortunately, this author could use a better editor/proof-reader. This book didn't have a ton of mistakes but her other book did. She also writes as Alexis Calder and those books get lots of comments about a lot of missed editing. She also doesn't correctly use the personal pronouns I and me. She will start a sentence with "You and me are going to...." "Me" is being used as the subject and should be "I" instead. This mistake happens in several places. About the only time a sentence should start with me, or someone else and me, is, "Me, too!"

I did enjoy this book and was happy to read her other book but was quite disappointed it. It had none of the chemistry we find in this book. I will not be reading anything further from this author under either of her pen names.

Taylor, 33, has a confrontation with a man in a coffee shop and later finds out that he is her new boss, Owen. Owen, 37, is a billionaire who bought the company she has been with since it started and Taylor is afraid he will ruin the company. There is much bantering between the 2 and she has a 90 day contract that is forcing her to stay at the company even though she hates Owen. Owen was going to try to get her to leave but quickly realizes her enthusiasm is vital to the company and he is becoming attracted to her mentally and physically. Taylor can be snarky and sarcastic but she is also starting to have feelings for Owen. Can Owen and Taylor learn to work together professionally and have a personal relationship?

I thoroughly enjoyed this fun enemies to lovers story where things don’t always go smoothly. The author did a great job developing the characters so we could see why they acted as they did. I loved the sarcasm and bantering between the two, especially in the beginning when they were first getting to know each other. They tried to fight their feelings for business reasons and a misunderstanding drives them apart, but is it permanent? The epilogue is a perfect ending for their story.

You will love “ In Hate with my Boss “ by Lexi Calder

ARC received from Booksprout and author in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own and have not been influenced in any way. This author is a new one for me and I can’t wait to check out more of her work.

I read this book in just one sitting - could not put it down !

Cover and book blurb interesting enough to one click
Really liked that both hero / heroine are slightly older early and later 30’s
Great characters in Taylor and Owen - enemies that really start out disliking the other
Office / corporate take over
Major sparks and animosity
Funny dialog and plot situations
A very snarky and sarcastic heroine
Sizzling chemistry
HEA

I wish I could rate this book more that 5 STARS - I just did not want it to end !!

Loved everything about In Hate with My Boss ! Highly recommend this read and author !

This is the first book I have read by Lexi Calder and was definitely not disappointed.
Taylor who has been working for her company since it started, a new boos is coming in and she is afraid he will run the company into the ground. On her way to the office she stops off to get her coffee and has a run in with a man who she soon finds out is her new boss. After turning up for work late (his fault in her opinion) the two of them always seem to be arguing.
Though there seems to be attraction between the two, the arguing never stops. Is there enough attraction for them to work together or will he run the company just long enough so he can move on.
I enjoyed every page of this book and am sure you will too.

5⭐+

Owen gave it up for her.

This book was good. It kept you interested and was not boring to me. I loved that Taylor spoke her mind to Owen and did not take anything from him. They fell for each other in less than two months. It was fast. Taylor was great at her job and Owen realized it and gave Taylor the promotion she deserved. Her mom and dad were funny. Her best friend was sweet. Owen's sister and niece were very welcoming. Their father was mentioned but we never read a scene with him in it. Good story with some errors but overall a good story.

This was my first read from this author. For starters, I loved the first person point of view of the story, which is always a deal breaker for me. Taylor is having a bad day on the wrong day and she is not happy about that. Also, I loved Owen and for me is the guy who makes the story. This one was definitely worth my time. 5 stars. I will read more from this author in the future.

nice read

It’s not the best I’ve read from her but it’s a good filler book until you find the next one.

The hero is kinda comes off as a sissy more than a jerk. And she makes the same mistake all females do in romance novels. She assumes after seeing or reading something and runs away. I wish authors would find another way to change that dynamic exchange.

Anyways it was good and I read it fairly quickly.

Really enjoyed this one. This is one of my favorite tropes - powerful male in superior position, woman won’t take crap from him. I think it’s because I am usually the boss and in a responsible position so it’s nice to fantasize about not being in charge. The meeting and the lead-up was fun and the sex was hot. I’ll read more of her books in the future

❤❤Tons of snark, with a side of chemistry..❤❤

I absolutely love how passionate Taylor is, and how underneath the mask, Owen is really all mushy. And Taylor and Juliette's inability to insert foot into mouth every time they're out eating completely cracked me up! Looking forward to more Lexi Calder books!!

Taylor and Owen are wonderful characters. Their love/hate relationship is so funny to read and makes for some brilliantly written banter between them. I’m a fan of sarcasm and the author knows her sarcasm! This is my first time reading this author and I loved this book.

This is a fantastic read. Owen is the new CEO of Taylor's company. Can they find a way to get along and maybe find love? Despite all the misunderstandings. This was a great read, definitely recommend.

Cute story

Love it when the guy isn't the total jerk people think he is. His proof of love was a bit anticlimactic. I think I was hoping for something bigger. Overall, it was good story.

When strong love clashes

Funny to blissfully happy. This romance was fun to read. I enjoyed the power play at the beginning. I equally enjoyed the love and family at the end. The middle was the adventure and a pleasure to experience. Thank you!

Assumptions can really be misleading

Loved it! They both think they have everything they want until they meet each other. They start out hating each other because they both make assumptions but as things change they do too.

This book may have been written as a pandemic relief but it brings humor to the reader as two stubborn characters learn that attraction happens.

Love and hate

Love and hate are such a thin line. Hate leads to passion and thats what this book has. Sexual tension that leads you right to a HEA.
