Handsome Flirt

Rate this book
Former PI Travis Walker has joined his brother on the family ranch. He’s happy with his new life, but when a friend from his past asks for help, he agrees to handle one last case.
Only problem? This isn’t a normal case. For one thing, Travis has always been attracted to the lovely Dani Karlinski. For another, her meddlesome, matchmaking grandmother is being sued for putting a “curse” on a neighbor. You see, Granny occasionally places “romantic suggestions” on people she believes need love. And Dani needs Travis to help her prove hexes aren’t real and the lawsuit is groundless.
But as they work to clear her granny’s name, and grow increasingly closer in the process, they can’t help wondering if their feelings are true love…
Or if they’re falling under a love spell of their own.

Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.

She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.

Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.

She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.

While this was a great book, charming and heart warming, I did have some issues with it.

I'm annoyed with the whole plot device of the female putting aside her own happiness and dreams in order to get the approval of a cold-hearted mother or father. Come on. They're grown adults! Only children do this, let's move past this in books. The female MC's, Danielle, desire to move to NYC would have rang more authentic for me if it was truly her ambition and choice. Not her trying to please her father.

There was a moment in the book (at about 10%) where Danielle makes a mental comment about being surprised that the male MC, Travis, has all his hair. Um. He's 28. OF COURSE HE HAS ALL HIS HAIR! Sheesh.

Also, did the authors forget what they wrote in book 7? I read that one yesterday. It was the story of Max, who is the older brother of Travis. In that book, we are told that they were in the Marines. In this one, they're Navy. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!

Another thing that annoyed me and made me think they had forgotten what they wrote in book 7 was the ages of the brothers. In book 7, the authors stated that the Max is the older brother by 4 years. He helped raise his younger brother because of this age difference. In this book, we are told that they are 2 years apart.

Seriously with these inconsistencies? Come on, now. Also the flipping back and forth between a car and an SUV or a truck and a car in the same paragraph got annoying. Are they in a car or a truck? Is she driving in a car or an SUV?

All of these things would make you think that I'd lower the rating even more on this book, right? Nope. Problem is that I liked the book. I did feel that these things should cost it a star though because they took me out of the moment.

I liked Danielle and I liked Travis. I thought they had the sort of cozy relationship that you'd expect childhood friends to have (high school, actually). Their romance made me smile at times and at other times I wanted to smash their heads together! LOL

I loved her wacky grandmother and was happy with the way her story ended.

I found it a little odd that Travis had an issue leaving the ranch when he literally did nothing at the ranch for the entire book. Maybe a little more time should have been spent showing how much he's needed at this ranch.

The ending made me happy. It had that heartwarming feeling that left a smile on my face. Normally this would be a 5-star rating for me but...you know....the issues above cost it a star.

I'm hoping there are more books in this series that interest me. I like catching up on this town.

Delightful!

A fun story with grandma being sued for putting a curse on a neighbor, which she claims wasn’t a curse, but a romantic suggestion. Dani, the lawyer granddaughter, hires old friend, Travis, the former PI, to help clear her name. Nothing goes as planned. I figured out one of the surprise twists early on, but it was still a fun read with a HEA.

Happy Ending Intended

Lori Wilde has a different approach to her writing. Some of her books I like better than others. This one was unusual but not my favorite. I will search for more Macomber books I can afford.
