I’ve spent my entire career chasing and killing Reapers. How could I love one?
It seemed ludicrous to me at first. I mean, they had a name for me even. The Reaper Killer. That is, until I was defeated in battle. By the one who would take me to be his mate.
He claims it is a jalshagar bond. That I belong to him. To this monster. A being who inspires nightmares. It’s enough to make you cry.
And I weep. But only because I realize I’m falling in love with him. I’ve never been in love before, yet I know this feeling for certain. It is the jalshagar bond. Profound, throbbing through my very being.
Bonded to a monster. I am not ashamed. There is no more worry about my dignity. I have realized that I have no need to worry about such matters. He controls what happens to me. No need for anxiety or guilt.
Just as long as I surrender.
Brute explores a much darker and grittier side of the Athenaverse. It can be read as a standalone, but it still shares the same universe that you’ve found in other books. Themes in this book should be approached with caution.
Athena Storm is the pen name for two authors who fell in love with writing science fiction romance as they fell in love with each other.
She's the Athena. And he's the Storm. Athena hopes that one day it won't be a boyfriend/girlfriend writing duo, but a husband/wife team. But she's not pressuring at all. Not one bit.
Science fiction is the biggest love for the writing duo, and they've been doing the writing for quite some time now, building a universe that readers can get lost and explore in. Filled with big bad alien warriors, sassy human women who give as well as they get, hilarious situations, and enough steam to melt stars!
The duo have created the Athenaverse, where all books in all series are tied together. You can start anywhere but once you do, you'll want to explore them all!
When they get married, they plan to continue writing science fiction romance forever. But again, no pressure on the marrying part. Not at all. (Not like writing Happily Ever After ALL Day won't give you any ideas on its own, right?)
How in the world do I impart to anyone reading this review that is it so much more than just a Reaper/Human romance? This is the third book in the "Reaper's Property" series and they just seem to be getting better and better as each new one is released. Of course, 'Brute' can be read as a standalone but why would you want to when you would miss all that has come before? Just imagine, Melina is the best Captain on one side. Mehr, the best on his side. Enemies from birth by their teachings. They say hate and love are the opposite sides of the same coin. Well, the jalshagar, or fated mate, proves that point. Their internal and external struggles are harsh. But as harsh as they are that's how passionate they are. Can the bond be broken? Will they try? This is such an intense book that will evoke a plethora of emotions and feelings. There's no way I would've missed this one and neither should you.
Second book in the series. The story does have some dark moments. There is death and fighting around every corner. Mehr is a reaper and his whole life has been fighting and pillaging. But now the Reapers are fighting for a better life for them against The Combine. The Combine takes and if you aren’t on their side they will destroy you. Melinda is a human woman that is also a fighter. She is definitely a surprise and will turn everything Mehr has thought upside down. If they don’t destroy each other they may just find happiness.
He covers up when she stole her former ship and then tried to kill herself, he tries to find a way to break their fated mate bond so she can leave him, and he refused to have sex with her until she begged him.
Heroine is a captain who has killed over 1,000 Reapers. They convince her to join the Reapers so she helps them take the planet D'jal.
The book is exciting and kept you at edge of your seat from start to finish. Everything you want in a romance, adventure, drama, betrayal from your crew, finding your mate in the emeney side, love, and hot sexy scenes that sizzles but not over the top with awesome characters. A must buy and keep them coming they are awesome.
Outstanding story! I have been reading this authors' books for some time now and another great story with Melina and Mehr this time. These characters are passionate in their peruses and with each other in the midst of conflict.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
