En Su Oficina

Rate this book

Disappointed

The book started out really interesting and it had it’s romantic and seductive components which make a good romance book enjoyable. But, as I continued to read and found myself two years into the story with out details on how Amelia and Robert were not together, I lost interest in the story. I read through it skipping many pages just to know what happened. At the end I hated Robert for being such a horrible man. The ending should have been more detailed of a happily ever after with their baby.

Confusion

The books starts off ok, the author changes the characters name slightly half way through which confuses you.

After about 40% I think she decided to change it completely and start a new book which made it completely impossible to want to keep reading.

I didn't get past 50% lost interest which is a same as it started off well

Overall I liked this book. At first I wasn't a big fan of Robert. Then when him and Amelia started their thing he became likable. Then things changed. A couple years later they both are in new relationships. However, in the end they find their way back to each other.

Crazy-ass and confusing plot

I read several reviews that derided the book severely and Everytime I considered heading it I backed off..but finally my curiosity got the better of me. ***SPOILERS *** So I skimmed the last half to make sure they had a happy ending and then read the first half. The first half is decent - office romance type of thing with a good conflict and resolution. The second half is a big ol' mess. The characters' flaws made it unbelievable they would end up together. The reason they broke up - bc he asked her to sleep with a mob kingmaker to help his own career. The whole culmination of why they end up together is because she gets Pregnant when they sleep together while he is in Another Relationship - therefore Cheating! Also, I really hate when folks think that the best way to resolve problems in the relationship is to propose. Not only does that indicate that the relationship itself is pretty flimsy, but it's such a cop out. They did resolve the relationship in a manner that was well done and believable on their "road trip" but then he lied to his then-current girlfriend so she would remain his campaign manager and then had hot sex with the then-current girlfriend who he "loved". I know some have said this sucks bc they also had sex with other ppl in the book. I don't think that is the case. I thought the sex scenes with the h and her new (but wrong- student professor relationship) beau were well done in describing being treated so we'll by someone yet unable to fully appreciate it because you're hung up on someone else.
But most of these Kindle unlimiteds don't have really innovative or perfect plots -- the 2 worst aspects of this book that I cannot excuse: 1. the constantly shifting time periods - going from 3 head later to a little more than 18 months to 9 months and then someone the student in COMMUNITY COLLEGE is already a young attorney to be mentored by the H at the end; 2. We never actually have certainty Who is the Father of the baby. The h refuses the doctor's test to determine the date of conception, then the h says she 'knows' (did she have her period in between trysts? We don't know) it's the H but then admits she really doesn't. And the timeline between trysts seems to change from a week or more to only days apart. And finally at the end Robert says he "found out" that it was his but then he seems to be saying it will Be his regardless of genetic material. All without any internal or external dialogue saying he wouldn't mind raising another man's biological child.
Given all these unnecessary and glaring complications I must advise HARD PASS. I read romance novels to be taken away and believe in true connection between two people (and sex), not to have that connection sullied by cheating, lies, and unclarified facts which happen to be the defining aspects of the plot (paternity of fetus). I give this a 1.5/5 though because the first half -- and I must insist it is better for you if you stop reading before the book transitions into years later - has decent sex scenes and a workable story ark (though we also never learn what happened to the guy who tried to date rape the h in the initial meeting scene. que libro horrendo.

Started out ok but the narrative rambled and confused.

The decision to apologise to Robert's ex girlfriend was laughable. They were all single, unattached people so perfectly entitled to have any kind of relationship.

Other inconsistencies were irritating. Especially the bizarre dream that Robert had on the road trip which came out of nowhere and went the same way. We never found out what it was about and what he needed so much he offered to sell Amelia to a mob boss. However, this thin plot surfaces in another of the books.

The main story could've been enjoyable but the writing needs to be much tighter with fewer random inclusions and more flesh on the bones of the other characters.

Could do better.

Didn't live up to expectations!

This is not an enemies to lovers story as publicized. It's a tough boss/employee become lovers, break-up and eventually get back together again. What makes it so bad is that it seemed like very little of the story was spent on the main characters' time together.

Specifically, you get a bit of how they first meet and she becomes his assistant, and a little bit more of their dynamics at work and how they become a couple. Then suddenly it's two years later and the h and H haven't been together for all that time. You get nothing about their time together after they admit their love for each other, nothing about their break-up or even what they've been doing in the 2 years apart. I mean how long were they together? What caused the break up? What happened to them during the 2 years that have passed? How did each react to the break-up?

Instead, you get chapters and chapters of 2 years later where the H currently running for a political office while in a relationship with his campaign manager and the issues he faces in both; and the h is currently teaching at a local college and having an illicit affair with a student, which is against school policy (of course) and the drama of that relationship, until finally one of the H's issues brings him back into the h's life where eventually the air is cleared and they ultimately get back together. I would have liked to have read more about the relationship between the H and h, their struggles , what caused the break-up and how it affected each of them after.

My other issue is that their personalities/character seems to change between the two years with no insight as to why since we don't know anything about them in those 2 years. He starts out as a smart, driven and focused successful attorney, capable of reading people and assessing their strategies easily, but who is also a bit of an A-hole as he's too demanding of his assistants, ("If you work for me your ass is mine and I expect you to be available whenever and where ever I need you."). But 2 years later he seems uncertain, indecisive, distracted, misreads people, and screws up his debate. What happened to the commanding, confident, smart, successful attorney? She was a bit clumsy (tripping and spilling coffee on her boss) but a smart, student graduating from law school. An introvert on the more conservative side, she didn't like partying and playing around...she concentrated on her studies and getting an internship after graduation and passing her bar exam. Two yrs later she's teaching at college and starts an affair with a student even though she knows it's wrong and could jeapordize her job. Though she tries to end it she keeps giving in. What happened to the girl who was able to say no throughout her college years? What...do you lose your scruples when you're older, more mature and supposedly wiser? In truth, these changes did nothing to make these characters endearing or likeable. I didn't really care for either one of them and wasn't invested in their story.

In the end, I was left wanting!

The 2yr time jump did me in.....the first half of the book not so bad, I was rolling with it.....but that time jump had me jump chapters and pages, because I was getting so frustrated......It threw me for a loop when his campaign manager kissed him on the lips but I thought nothing of it.....I didn't even really register the little half speech he gave about Amy at the very beginning of his announcing him running to be DA...... I skipped through a whole lot because I was just in awe that before the time jump all was going so well, I was invested in Robert & Amy......but then I was like pump the breaks what the what is going on.....I hate the first few chapters after he announced he was running for DA.... I am not one to not finish a book, so I think I picked up when Robert figured out who was blackmailing him. It started to do ok, but then downhill it went again.... The ending felt so rushed, like was the kid his? he just talks to some random man nobody heard about until the last few chapters of the book and then he was ok, like what was the real deal? And what was up with the girlfriend in the BDSM gear, yeah didn't work AT ALL, I cringed when it happened, it felt weird and forced.....it had the potential to be an amazing book, but honestly fell short.... Maybe it was better to give an epilogue after they got together of a few years later instead of the crazy run around with him with his stiff as a board new girlfriend/manager and her with a student.... yeah that story line didn't work for me, did not match the personality of the people who was described in the first half of the book. This was my second Mia Faye book, could possible be my last as this story just did not do it for me, maybe I won't be so quick to throw in the towel.... Maybe i'll try another and have a better outcome....fingers crossed.

Entertaining office romance. Robert and Amelia have great chemistry and Amelia does her best to please him and not mess anything up. What will happen when Robert starts breaking the office rules for her? Will they find their happily ever after? Fast-paced read with plenty of drama and steam. I liked it.

Potential spoilers, but better safe than sorry. This book is about two selfish and toxic people that act like everyone else is the problem. Some inconsistencies in plot and stated morals of certain characters, one character even gets a name change randomly. Some odd phrasing that doesn't match what is being said, but that's just a grammar complaint.

I’m sorry but I DNF 😞

I don’t often write a poor review, I would rather not leave a review at all, but I wanted to explain
The first half of the story was great HOWEVER

The book is too long, (why?)

When I got to a few years later, I genuinely expected it to be the epilogue! It ended quite well!
My confusion when I started reading it was that there was a typo!! Amelia not Gwen surely?
It totally threw me and I lost interest in the story,
I’m not a fan of second books if it isn’t needed, however, I feel this could have done with one.
I will keep the book ( KU) and hopefully will pick it up again at a later day.

Again I’m sorry for the rating, ( Of 2 stars). The first half of the story had me hooked, it was was just the abrupt “a few years later” that failed.

Two books in one.

This book takes an odd turn when they do a time jump. The narrative completely changes. I hated the time jump. I wasn’t a fan of the explicit details of the characters having intercourse with other people. It didn’t feel like an actual love story. The ending was lackluster.
I did read this all in one sitting, so it did keep my attention.
I should throw out there that this book does include cheating.
Robert running for DA doesn’t make a lot of sense because he’s a defense attorney, not a prosecutor. With his “skeletons” nobody would ever back him in a political race and the campaign manager behind that would have to be an idiot.
The situation around the “break up” still has me raising eyebrows. It just didn’t seem like something the characters would do. It was out of character for the characters.

This book was a lockdown challenge by a friend who didn't think I could last until the end...and I made it. I wanted to give nearly all the characters a swift slap upside the head and it left my toes curling for all the wrong reasons. I found them all equally vile for a variety of reasons..my god the whining! I can appreciate why people would read something to escape (especially at the moment) and manly chests and perky breasts are appealing - as are complete bastards apparently, but its just urgh for me. However it wasn't as bad as I expected.

This book is surely going to shake things up that's for sure it's Taboo and there's a Teacher and Student hook up & the emotions will get to you. When Robert and Amelia (Amy) start their story it's rough and tough road to maneuver and only time can tell how their story will end, but you'll be hooked by then and the need to see how their story plays out will win. Mia Faye is a new author to me and has intrigued my curiosity so I'll be reading a whole lot more of her books.

Empieza como la típica historia de romance entre jefe/empleada y termina como la típica historia de enemies to lovers.
Resulta interesante y la escritora sabe cómo engancharte a la historia.

There are a few guarantees in life – death, taxes, and if a book has “Enemies to Lovers” anywhere in the title or description, IMMA READ IT. This my first book from Faye and while I like the overall story, I feel like the writing and fluidity left a little to be desired.

Now, again, let me preface this and tell you that this is all MY opinion and I have never written a damn book in my LIFE. Judging by the writing of this blog, for instance, I should shy far away from it. So please keep all of this in mind as I review this book.

The Story

The tale as old as time… Well, not really, but kinda. Robert Hardy is a ruthless criminal attorney who goes through assistants like tissue paper. He’s demanding, a dick, and sets almost unattainable expectations for all of this assistants. When he gets fed up with the temp agency’s supply of assistants, he decides to go back to his old stomping grounds and attend a college party. That’s right, a guy who is well out of college goes to a college party to try to find a new assistant.. Yeah.. hang in there.

Amelia Brooks is a dedicated law student who decides to leave the books behind for a night and attend a party with her best-friend and roommate (eye roll). At the party, her so-called best friend leaves Amelia on her own in an environment where she’s super uncomfortable so she can go hook up with one of the infamous “Smith” twins – hence the eye-roll.

After an encounter with the “other” Smith, Hardy comes to Amelia’s rescue and saves her from a very scary situation. Hardy takes her back to her room and after her encounter with the “other” Smith, and almost does the thing he tried to protect her from. It’s headscratcher. But that’s besides the point. Get back to the story, Erin.

So after this encounter, Hardy decides to take it upon himself to hire Amelia as his assitant but his intentions aren’t exactly pure. While he’s sexually attracted to her, he also brings her on because she can be a tool in one of his upcoming cases. As the book continues, these two fight the push-pull of their attraction.

The Characters

Robert Hardy: Hardy is a hard-ass (ha!) and does everything in his power to push Amelia to quitting. He wants to keep her around, so where he would have fired his other assistants for making the same errors, he looks past Amelia’s fire-able offenses to keep her on the team until the end of the trial.

Amelia Brooks: She’s one tough cookie. Hardy treats her like shit basically throughout the entire book, until right before they are f*cking, then proceeds to treat her like shit mostly afterward. She knows that a job with Hardy will open doors for her future, so much so she does some compromising things to help him win a case.

This version of her is closest to the woman I met on campus a lifetime ago. Bold. Playful. Adorable as f*ck.

Let’s Talk About (the) Sexy, Baby!

Steaminess Rating

Racy Reader - Hot Rating
Hear me out. The sex scenes were really hot, but I feel like I was constantly getting whiplash. I get the push and pull thing, trust me, I do, but when it’s to the point the anti-hero is just being a f*cking dick, its not cute. Amelia says it best in the first few chapters of the book:

I keep trying to reassure myself that Robert would never go as far as to scar someone mentally, but it’s a bit difficult to convince myself having just decided a few hours ago that the man is a total asshole, a regular Jekyll and Hyde. He swings wildly, unpredictably, from charming and almost human, to unpleasant, rude, and cold.

Again, I think the scenes overall were well written, but sometimes they just kinda like came out nowhere. It’s one of those books you read, then go back few pages because you feel like you may have missed something that would have placed the scene better. But then you go back and realize there was no setup, at all, and you’re just supposed to go along for the ride.

The Writing

I kind of touched on this above but I really felt lost a lot of the time. Here’s an example. There’s no time relativity to the book so you really don’t know how long Amelia has been working with Hardy. So in one chapter she’s basically a book nerd who is freaking the f*ck out about exams and finals, but then the next chapter she’s already graduated? I just felt a little lost.

No one book would deter me away from one author so I am going to give Faye more chances, but if you’re in the market for an enemies-to-lovers office romance that leaves you feeling spent and hungover at the end, this is not that book. But it’s a good, quick, sexy read.

Lovers to Enemies to Lovers

I’m left here scratching my head and unsure what to make of this book. It was a little different than your typical romance and I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. I think I would give it a 3.5, but when I feel that way, I always round up for the benefit of the author.

Okay, so what made this book different? Amy and Robert had an attraction from the start, but Robert hired Amy to be his assistant and distract the opposing lawyer in a case he was working on. The attraction was too much and they started a relationship.

The relationship was going well and you think the book is finishing at 30% and you’re like what the...? But instead, it skips ahead a couple of years and you have no idea what happened in between. Instead, you find they’re broken up and living their own lives.

This is really a head scratcher and where the book lost me a little. Why didn’t the author tell us what happened right away? It was frustrating. Eventually we kind of find out what happened...kinda...we read a passage of a daydream and aren’t quite sure if it’s real or not. Turns out it is.

In the end, I think we get a happily ever after, but I’m not 100% positive. An epilogue would have been great. I really would have liked an epilogue that was 2 or 3 years in the future to have a few lingering questions answered, because there were a few loose ends.

Overall, the book could use a really good editor to help the writer bring together the head scratching loose ends. I liked that the book was a little different than others, but I struggled with too much of the book that I can’t say it was really great. The sex was great 😉 and there was plenty of it! Lol. I would still suggest giving this a try. It was entertaining if nothing else. Happy reading y’all!!

Will Love Triumph

Robert Harding, is a top criminal lawyer who has never lost a case. He is arrogant, gorgeous and sexy. But like a lion he is so fierce and scary that his office assistants don't last very long. And for fifteen of them, the stress was too great.

So when attractive, but determined and hardworking Amelia Brooks (Amy) is invited to go for an interview that she did not apply for, out of curiosity she attends. Only to find that the man interviewing her is the anonymous man who had rescued her at a recent student party. But why was he there? And why was a rescue necessary?

There is some unacknowledged romantic chemistry between Robert and Amy. But the requirements of the work place and the pressure exerted by Robert for Amy to achieve excellence and do whatever he demand gradually becomes too much. And secretly there are bets to see how long she will last. But will an office romance bloom? Will love triumph?

Well, this is my first Mia Fay' book and I am certain that I will be reading more. There are so many twists and turns and suspense in the story that my attention was focused throughout. Happy reading.

Ok reading this book felt like raiding rolcaster a lot of things happening in this one book like the writer didn’t know when to end the story. I felt really bad for the said characters because they didn’t deserve what happened in the proses , and let just be honest for one second no baddy won’t read about amazing sex other then with main love birds , you will read how they both loved and find what they where looking outside their relationship zone.
About the book it stated perfectly but in the middle from the campaign went down to earth , it felt completely disaster from cheating, stupid breaking up ( P.S if the person that I love ask me to sleep with someone else I will never see him again and Never forgive him because the person how can’t protect me and my honor it’s mean he doesn’t really loves me , he never did or he never did , and then Amy magically forgive Robert just she listen how bad he was after the break out and get pregnant in the process)
Ok Robert is not a man in this story become he always finds a way to make the woman around him feel less then him professionally and personally, he lives his normally while the woman’s around him pays the price for caring .

I should have believed more in the reviews

I don’t like leaving average reviews. I tend to only review the books I love BUT please review the comments to see if this book would be your piece of cake.

I general, this author and this book’s hot scenes are hot! They don’t sound the same as every other book and it takes you there emotionally.

The first third of the book is fantastic. Thrilling, engaging with background stories and character depth. Yet when I believed the book was about to end I found that I was only at the first third.

SPOILER
Second third is maddening. After you get the characters together and happy you find yourself after a +1 y gap with the lead characters “in love” with someone else and it just made me crazy. I am that stubborn that had to keep reading to see them back together

Last third is a series of new arguments that felt like too much. Too long and frustrating. And after you hang in there just to get to see them back together, then you just get a small glimpse

Holy Time-Jump. So, about half-way through the office romance part of this book the story seemed to be wrapping up and I was confused because I still had more than half the book to go enter time-jump. I'm always nervous about these because sometimes they ruin the story but this time it only added to it. The writer made it kind of a mystery we didn't find out what exactly happened just before the jump until nearly the end. That was the part I didn't like. Yes, it added an element of mystery but I think I could've related more to what these characters were going through had I had all the information up front and other issues that were happening may have made more sense. Overall, I loved this book. It's one of those rare stories that actually stays with you and I read a lot but I didn't want to start another book because I was still in this book world and didn't want to move on. Although I am mad at the author for one thing she left up in the air at the end but ill live lol. Highly Recommend!

Characters seemed flat and plot was predictable.

First, the first part of the book seemed to work but that time jump didn’t work for the story. It raised a lot of questions and had me hoping for Robert to get his due, but it never happened, nor were the questions answered. This is a problem because Robert and Amy are protagonists falling in love that we should be rooting for.
Second, the Amy of the first and the Amy of the second part are two different characters. They have different weaknesses and the fall from grace she has is hard to believe. Moreover Robert never really evolves. Everything works out for him in the end even though he did something pretty despicable. Of course Amy goes running back.
Third, certain eras of the book the writing was passive.

If these things seem like things that wouldn’t bother/ matter to you, go ahead and read it- you’ll enjoy it.

I don't know how this is a romance. Girl goes to work for boy, they fall in love, he asks her to have sex with someone else, they split up, she becomes a teacher and has a relationship with student, he decides to become a district attorney, has a relationship with his campaign manager. Girl forgives boy (WTF?), gets pregnant, doesn't know who father is, resigns from being a teacher, boy proposes - the end.
This is a truly terrible book. It makes so little sense, and about halfway through the book it really stops being about them. Plus seriously, how do you get over, I love you, go have sex with someone else? How do you not punch him?! I don't know what the author was thinking. It was alright upto that point, but it's just not realistic that they would be able to get over that huge misjudgement.
One final issue - why did Gwen just suddenly decide she's a domme? Did the author read 50 Shades and think some bdsm was just what her book needed? Just one more jarring moment.

Not the typical romance and a bit of a flat ending

The odd setting of on again and off again relationship of the two characters was off putting especially finding out much later in the book the reasons for the split. A reason I do not believe anyone with any integrity would willingly decide to re enter a relationship with someone who did what they did.

Seemed like two really messed up people that got back together after both making a mess of their lives in other bigger ways and just settling for each other due to an obligation that they both created.

Both characters, while being human and flawed, to me never showed true growth from their bad mistakes or true depth of feeling for each other and am left feeling they will fallow the mistake of Roberts parents soon after their union.

DNF @ 40%
The pacing of this book was super fast and it really felt like it should have been a duology. The first 40% of the book has an entire romance book plot arc, then we jump forward a few years and suddenly there's a whole other romance plot that these characters have to go through. So on the bright side, we basically get 2 books in 1 but it felt like at least the first chunk of the book was not fully fleshed out. I wasn't entirely sure why the hero liked the heroine, even in his POV chapters. It basically boiled down to there was something he couldn't quite put his finger on but the heroine's characterization was super flat for me so I honestly had no idea what he was talking about.

I did really like the overall plot of what I read, I just wish that part was expanded and that's where the book ended.

DNF...I literally didn't even make it to chapter 5. This was so cringy and so implausible. What on earth is a well off lawyer doing at a college party?! Ok, I know what he was doing there. But, what? Idk the ages of the characters but if Robert is such a high demanding lawyer, he's far too old for a college girl. A college aged lawyer would not have the high stakes Robert does. Second cringe part is that this man literally witnesses another man rufie a girls drink only to almost have sex with her himself. PS there's no way on earth the drug wore off that fast for Amelia to be as coherent as she was. This author needs to go back and do her research on how date rape drugs work. Honestly, this is where I had to cut it off. If you're going to add reality into your novel, at least make it factual.

Heading to New York to put some much-needed distance between her cheating ex-boss and herself, Ava is hoping to find herself again. Distracted by an arrogant businessman yelling about incompetent temps, handsome but arrogant. Picking up his fallen phone as they disembark, she is unable to find him in the airport to return the phone. Seeking out her best friend who is there to offer her comfort and support on her break-up. Not wishing to sponge off her she manages to land an interview as an assistant.

Michael prefers his office on the fifth floor away from the main executive offices on the second floor. Allowing him to concentrate on his work rather than being disrupted by people dropping in for a chat. Although his business partner is insisting that he needs an assistant and has arranged interviews for him. Managing to get his phone back just before the interviews he is shocked to find a new screen photo of a luscious ass. Which just happens to be one of the candidates for interview – needless to say, she lands the job and Michael wants to explore that ass up close and personal.

Having just gotten out of a relationship with her boss, Ava is understandably reluctant to start anything with Michael. Their chemistry of off the charts and soon she is very much on his desk. A fling that has him wanting to keep her in his bed but she doesn’t want to be the kept woman. Can this ever be more than just attraction?
